If OBS is showing up in your YouTube Live loop, first minimize OBS. If you need the app open, use OBS’s capture-exclusion setting where supported: on Windows, enable Hide OBS windows from screen capture in Settings → General; on macOS 13 or later, use a macOS Screen Capture source in Display Capture mode and enable Hide OBS from capture. The right option depends on what your scene captures and your operating system.
Why OBS appears in a desktop capture
A Display Capture source records the selected display. If the OBS window is visible on that display, it can appear in the stream. Minimizing OBS removes its window from view; capture exclusion can keep the OBS interface out of capture on supported setups.
If viewers only need to see a particular video, application, or window, use a narrower capture source when your operating system and OBS source support it. That avoids capturing the rest of the desktop, including OBS, provided the chosen source contains the intended loop content.
Choose the method for your setup

Hide OBS without stopping the loop
1. Confirm what the scene captures
In OBS, check the source used by the scene. Display Capture records the selected display, while Window Capture or an application-capture option can target narrower content where supported. Choose the narrowest source that still shows the video or app viewers need to see.

2. Minimize OBS for the quickest fix
Minimize the OBS window. OBS documents that a minimized window is not visible to capture; if you bring it back onto the captured display, it may be captured again until minimized. On Windows, it can be minimized to the taskbar or tray; on macOS, to the Dock or menu bar.
3. Enable capture exclusion on Windows
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings.
- Open General.
- Enable Hide OBS windows from screen capture.
- Return to the stream and verify the captured output. Keep in mind that the setting also prevents screenshots of OBS while enabled.
4. Enable capture exclusion on macOS 13 or later
- Add or select a macOS Screen Capture source.
- Set its capture mode to Display Capture.
- Enable Hide OBS from capture.
- Check the output before leaving the stream unattended.
This documented path is specific to macOS 13 Ventura and later. If you use another macOS version or capture source, minimize OBS or use an appropriate narrower source instead.

5. Separate OBS controls onto another display
If you want OBS visible while capturing your main display, place the OBS window on a secondary monitor or television and capture the other display. This is a workflow option, not a prerequisite.
What hiding OBS does—and does not—change
- Minimizing OBS or excluding its window changes whether the OBS interface appears in the captured image; it is not itself a command to stop the stream.
- Studio Mode lets you edit a scene separately from the live program scene. Viewers continue to see the program scene until you transition. It does not hide the OBS application window from a Display Capture source.
- The eye control beside a source hides or shows that source within a scene. It does not exclude the OBS application window from a desktop capture.
- Display Capture is broader than window or application capture. Use the narrower source when it fits your intended content and is supported by your system.
Check the stream before leaving it unattended
After changing the source or hiding OBS, inspect the actual OBS output. Confirm that viewers see the intended loop rather than the desktop or a blank area. Capture behavior can depend on the source configuration, operating-system permissions, and other parts of the setup, so verify your own scene rather than assuming every configuration behaves identically.

Common problems and fixes
OBS reappears when I open it
If you are using minimize rather than capture exclusion, bringing OBS back onto the captured display can make it visible again. Minimize it after checking controls, or use a supported exclusion setting.
The Windows setting is on, but screenshots of OBS are blank
That is an expected consequence of Hide OBS windows from screen capture while enabled. Disable the setting if you need screenshots of OBS.

I hid a source, but viewers still see the OBS desktop
The source eye control affects scene content; it does not hide the OBS window itself from Display Capture. Minimize OBS, enable a supported capture-exclusion option, or use a narrower capture source.
Studio Mode is enabled, but OBS is still visible
Studio Mode separates scene editing from the live program output. It does not remove the OBS window from a display capture; use one of the visibility methods above.
