In a Battle Royale match, find a Dumpster Dive Sprite, carry it to a physical Sprite Extraction Site, and complete the extraction. The objective is described as “Extract A Silly Little Guy.” Return to the lobby and check your Locker for Jimothy.
Jimothy’s free unlock method
Current guides from VICE and Shacknews describe the same basic route: obtain a Dumpster Dive Sprite, extract it at a normal Extraction Site, then verify the reward in your Locker. Epic’s “Introducing Fortnite Sidekicks” announcement explains that Sidekicks are customizable companions that accompany players in Fortnite experiences, but it does not document Jimothy’s specific hidden objective.
Step-by-step: unlock Jimothy
- Enter a Battle Royale match. The reported objective is completed during a match rather than from a store purchase.
- Find a Dumpster Dive Sprite. VICE reports finding these in the Trick or Treat Cheat Codes experience and says any variant counted in its launch-day test.
- Carry the Sprite to a physical Sprite Extraction Site. Use a regular, map-based extraction point and complete the extraction there.
- Leave the match and check your Locker. After the extraction registers, return to the lobby and look for Jimothy among your Sidekicks.
Use a physical Extraction Site
The safest reported method is a standard Extraction Site. VICE tested a portable extractor on launch day and reported that it did not count toward the objective. That is a guide’s test result, not a published Epic rule, so portable extractors may behave differently after an update; however, using the physical point avoids the failure reported in that test.
| Method | What the available reports establish | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Extraction Site | Reported by VICE as the route that registered the Dumpster Dive Sprite extraction. | Use this method. |
| Portable extractor | VICE reported that its launch-day test did not register. | Do not rely on it for the unlock. |
If Jimothy does not appear
- Confirm that you extracted a Dumpster Dive Sprite, rather than simply finding or carrying one.
- Make sure the extraction was completed at a physical Extraction Site.
- Return fully to the lobby, then check the Locker again.
- If the reward still does not appear, replay the objective using a different Dumpster Dive Sprite variant and a normal Extraction Site.
- Check the current in-game quests or event information. The reviewed reports do not establish an official deadline, and Fortnite objectives can change with updates.
Is Jimothy really free?
Yes, the available guides describe Jimothy as a gameplay-earned Sidekick rather than a V-Bucks purchase. No accessory, guidebook, or physical Fortnite product is needed to complete the objective. Because the specific instructions come from current secondary reports rather than an Epic page dedicated to Jimothy, treat the steps as the best-documented route and verify them against the live game if an update changes the event.
