You can start playing F1 25 on PS5 with the DualSense controller you already own. Check the control reminders and settings, then spend a few short sessions in Practice Mode learning a circuit before moving into a longer career or online race. A racing wheel is optional, and there is no single official beginner setting that suits every player.
1. Confirm you have the PS5 version
F1 25 is the official video game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, and a PS5 version is available. Check the local PlayStation Store for the edition and offer available in your region; editions, prices, and seasonal content can change. 2. Start with the DualSense controller
You do not need to buy a wheel before your first race. The PS5 version supports the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. EA also lists compatible racing wheels for PS5, including Logitech G29 and G923, the HORI Racing Wheel Apex, and supported Fanatec devices. Compatibility means a device is supported; it does not make a wheel necessary or guarantee better results. See EA’s supported controls and devices if you later want to check a specific setup.

3. Check the controls and choose comfortable settings
At the start, use the game’s control reminders rather than trying to memorize every input. The PlayStation listing also notes advanced controller remapping, so you can adjust controls to suit your preferences. For a reference outside the game, visit EA’s F1 25 PlayStation controls hub. Consult the hub or in-game prompts for exact button mappings.
Settings are personal: prioritize inputs you can use consistently, and change one thing at a time so you can tell whether it helps. EA’s accessibility resource says Steering Assist is available and turns on Braking Assist, Anti-Lock Brakes, and Traction Control. That is an option, not a required beginner preset. If you use assists, consider reducing them gradually as you get comfortable; the right combination depends on your preference and experience.

4. Learn one circuit in Practice Mode
Practice Mode gives you a lower-pressure place to learn the circuit before adding race starts, strategy choices, or other players. The PlayStation listing includes Practice Mode as well as control reminders.
- Choose Practice Mode and select a circuit you want to learn.
- Drive a few short laps to notice where the track bends, where corners tighten, and where you need to slow down.
- Repeat the same section or lap while focusing on smooth, predictable inputs rather than speed.
- When you can complete laps comfortably, move on to a race or a progression mode.
This is a suggested way to approach a first session, not a required progression imposed by the game. There is no official universal difficulty or assist setup established for every new player.

5. Pick a mode that matches what you want to do

Online multiplayer is separate from the single-player modes and requires PlayStation Plus. The PlayStation listing specifies one to two local players and up to 22 online players with PS Plus. You can begin with Practice Mode or a single-player option without treating online racing as a first-session requirement.
