If you already own City Transport Simulator 2026, buy the Vienna Expansion. If you are new to the simulator, choose the Vienna Edition, which combines the base game with Vienna content. After installing, learn the map on tram line 37 or 38 from Schottentor, then move to bus 35A and finally the N35 night service.

What the Vienna Expansion adds

The Vienna Expansion launched on October 13, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It adds a compact but varied set of Vienna services rather than a single vehicle or scenery pack. You get three daytime routes, one night service, four vehicle configurations and a detailed Vienna environment.

Service Mode Route Vehicle Best first use
37 Tram Schottentor ↔ Hohe Warte ULF A or ULF B First Vienna route if you want a straightforward tram introduction
38 Tram Schottentor ↔ Grinzing ULF A or ULF B Second tram route after learning the Schottentor area
35A Bus Spittelau ↔ Salmannsdorf Citybus C2 solo or articulated Practice road traffic, stopping and timetable handling
N35 Night bus Vienna night service associated with the 35A corridor Solo bus Learn after the daytime route; it has different traffic and passenger conditions

The map reproduces real-world roads, intersections, stops and surrounding areas. More than 1,000 buildings were recreated, and the Remise Gürtel tram depot is modeled at 1:1 scale. These details matter during play: landmarks and the street layout provide visual reference points when you are learning a route instead of relying only on the timetable display.

Should you buy the Vienna Expansion or Vienna Edition?

Your ownership status determines the sensible purchase. The two products are not competing versions of the same content: one is downloadable content for existing owners, while the other is a bundle for newcomers.

Your situation Purchase What it contains Price shown in the October 2026 listing
You already own City Transport Simulator 2026 Vienna Expansion Vienna routes, vehicles, night service and map content €49.99
You do not own the base game Vienna Edition Base game plus the Vienna Expansion €69.99
You own the applicable Season Pass Vienna Expansion content is included Access at no additional charge under the pass Included; check your account entitlement

The vendor describes the bundle this way: “The Vienna Edition combines the base game and the Vienna Expansion in one package.” The listed prices are store-region and time sensitive. Treat them as the October 2026 reference prices, open the live storefront for your platform and region, and confirm that the product is not a separate base-game-only listing before paying.

Existing owners: check entitlement before buying

  1. Open the store attached to your PC, PlayStation or Xbox account.
  2. Open the City Transport Simulator 2026 product page and look for the Vienna Expansion entry rather than the Vienna Edition bundle.
  3. If you have a Season Pass, verify that the expansion is marked included or owned. Do not purchase a second copy while the entitlement is still synchronizing.
  4. Install the expansion from your library, then start the game and check that Vienna appears in the available regions or route selection.

New players: why the Vienna Edition is simpler

A new player needs both the simulator and the Vienna content. Buying only an expansion without the base game will not provide a playable standalone product. The Vienna Edition puts both entitlements in one purchase, so it is the less error-prone choice when you are starting from zero.

Prepare before your first Vienna drive

Do the simulator’s basic controls tutorial, or complete a familiar Tramau route if you already have experience with the game. You are trying to make braking, door operation, signaling, camera control and timetable reading automatic before adding an unfamiliar city layout. Vienna is easier to learn when your attention can stay on stops and intersections rather than on the controller.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Confirm that the expansion has finished downloading on the same account that owns the base game.
  • Use a short, repeatable session for the first run instead of combining a new vehicle, a new route and night driving at once.
  • Begin with the default control scheme. Add a physical wheel only after you can complete a route reliably with your normal controller or keyboard.
  • Keep the timetable visible long enough to understand departure times, stop spacing and recovery opportunities before attempting a faster run.

Recommended first-session sequence

  1. Complete the basic tutorial. Learn acceleration, braking, stopping position, doors, signals and timetable controls in the base training environment.
  2. Load tram 37 from Schottentor. Select the ULF A or ULF B and drive one complete direction to Hohe Warte. The route gives you a fixed starting point for learning the Vienna map.
  3. Repeat the Schottentor area on line 38. Drive toward Grinzing once you are comfortable leaving the terminus, positioning at stops and reading the next instruction.
  4. Change to bus 35A. Run between Spittelau and Salmannsdorf with a Citybus C2. This introduces road traffic and bus-specific stopping without also changing to nighttime conditions.
  5. Try the N35. Use the solo bus after the daytime service feels routine. Check its timetable and lighting because the night service has reduced traffic and passenger volumes and longer intervals than daytime 35A service.

This order separates the main learning variables. The two trams teach Vienna’s track alignment and stop rhythm; the daytime bus teaches road positioning and traffic awareness; N35 then adds darkness and a different service pattern.

Which Vienna route should you drive first?

Tram 37: the default starting point

Start at Schottentor and choose tram 37 if you want the clearest first look at the Vienna expansion. Its endpoints are Schottentor and Hohe Warte. Use the first run to learn where the terminus interface is, how the route announces its next stop and how early you need to brake for a platform. Do not chase a perfect schedule on this run; make a clean stop at every station and note landmarks that help you anticipate the next intersection.

On the return trip, concentrate on consistency. Use the same camera angle, approach speed and stopping routine at each platform. Repetition reveals which parts of your difficulty come from the vehicle and which come from the map.

Tram 38: choose it when you want a second tram pattern

Line 38 also begins at Schottentor and runs to Grinzing. It uses the same ULF A and ULF B tram family, so it is an efficient follow-up: you can concentrate on a different route while keeping vehicle controls familiar. Treat Schottentor as your orientation anchor and compare the stop sequence with what you learned on line 37.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Drive line 38 after at least one complete line 37 trip if you are new to the simulator. If you already understand tram braking and timetable handling, starting with 38 is equally valid; the choice is mainly whether Hohe Warte or Grinzing is the destination you want to learn first.

Bus 35A: the first road-service route

Line 35A connects Spittelau and Salmannsdorf and supports both a solo Citybus C2 and an articulated version. Select the solo bus for your first run. Its smaller footprint makes it easier to judge a stop, turn and curb position while you learn the road environment.

Once you can complete the solo-bus trip without clipping stops or missing timetable actions, repeat the line with the articulated C2. The longer vehicle changes your turning margin and where the rear section clears a corner. Those are practical differences to learn on a familiar route rather than while also learning Vienna for the first time.

N35: save the night service for later

N35 is the expansion’s night service and uses a solo bus. Compared with daytime 35A service, it has reduced traffic and passenger volumes and longer intervals. That quieter environment can make navigation less stressful, but the longer gaps in service change how you manage the timetable. Reduced passenger activity also means that a daytime stopping routine may feel unnecessarily fast at night.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before departing, check the N35 timetable and vehicle lighting. Drive smoothly, allow more time for visual confirmation of stops and use the lower traffic level to practice accurate positioning rather than treating the route as a race.

Choosing between the Vienna vehicles

Vehicle Services Configuration Learning priority
ULF A 37 and 38 Low-floor tram Use whichever cab layout feels clearer; learn one tram before switching
ULF B 37 and 38 Low-floor tram Compare it with the ULF A after you understand the route, not during your first departure
Citybus C2 solo 35A and the solo N35 service Solo bus Best first bus for stop placement and road positioning
Citybus C2 articulated 35A Articulated bus Use after the solo version to learn length, turning and rear-section clearance

The expansion’s low-floor ULF A and ULF B are the tram choices for lines 37 and 38. The Citybus C2 is available in solo and articulated forms for 35A, while N35 uses a solo bus. No performance ranking is established between the two ULF variants or between the two C2 configurations, so choose on control feel and practice goals rather than assuming one is faster or easier.

How to learn the Vienna map efficiently

Vienna’s real-world reference points are useful only if you turn them into a repeatable scan. At each departure, identify the terminus, the next stop and the next major intersection. During the run, check the stop display first, then the road or track alignment, then the timetable. This order prevents a familiar landmark from causing you to skip the operational information.

Use Schottentor as your tram anchor

Both tram 37 and tram 38 begin at Schottentor. Spend a few minutes observing the departure area before moving. Learn the platform position, the first signal or intersection and the first stop announcement. When you return later, those three cues tell you whether you are aligned for the correct service without requiring a full map search.

Use the depot as a visual landmark

The Remise Gürtel tram depot is recreated at 1:1 scale. It is a useful visual reference when it appears along your journey, but it should supplement—not replace—the route display. A landmark can orient you after a missed turn; it cannot tell you whether you are on the correct timetable trip.

Expect a dense, authored environment

More than 1,000 buildings, modeled roads, intersections, stops and surrounding areas make the Vienna setting visually detailed. Dense scenery can increase the temptation to look around while moving. Keep camera checks brief, make them only on a safe straight section, and return attention to signals, stop markers and the timetable before the next decision point.

Timetable and stop-handling habits

Timetable discipline is more valuable than speed during the first few runs. Approach every stop at a controlled speed, brake early enough to correct your position and open doors only when the vehicle is properly aligned. If you arrive early, use the timetable as the authority instead of accelerating to create an even larger gap at the next stop.

  • At a terminus: verify the displayed destination before departure. Both 37 and 38 share Schottentor as a starting point, so destination text matters.
  • On trams: stay aware of track alignment and intersection signals while preparing to stop.
  • On 35A: leave more room for road traffic and curb positioning than you would on a dedicated tram path.
  • On N35: account for the longer service intervals and lower passenger activity instead of applying daytime expectations.

Optional steering-wheel setup

Update v2026.3.0 adds enhanced steering-wheel support and compatibility with the latest Logitech G HUB update. A USB gaming steering wheel is optional; the exact result depends on your platform and the wheel model. You do not need one to start the Vienna routes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Update the simulator to v2026.3.0 or a later version offered for your platform.
  2. Install or update the wheel manufacturer’s driver software before connecting the wheel for calibration.
  3. Connect the wheel directly, launch the simulator and open its controller settings.
  4. Bind steering, throttle, brake and any desired buttons, then test the full range while stationary.
  5. Drive a short section of tram 37 or solo 35A before attempting a complete timetable run. If steering feels reversed, too sensitive or outside the calibrated range, correct the binding or calibration before continuing.

Because compatibility varies by platform and model, a wheel that works on one system is not guaranteed to behave identically on another. Keep your regular controller or keyboard available as a fallback.

Common first-day problems and fixes

Vienna does not appear after purchase

Confirm that the base game and expansion are installed under the same account, restart the game after the store finishes processing the purchase and check for a pending download. Season Pass owners should verify the entitlement rather than buying the expansion again.

You bought the wrong product

If you already own the base game, the Vienna Expansion is the relevant listing. If you do not, the Vienna Edition is the bundle that includes both. Storefront prices and product labels can change, so compare the contents shown on the live page before requesting support.

You keep missing stops

Return to tram 37, select one ULF vehicle and reduce the task to stopping accurately. Avoid changing vehicles or routes until you can complete a full direction without missing a platform. Then transfer the same routine to line 38.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The articulated bus is difficult to place

Switch temporarily to the solo Citybus C2 on 35A. Relearn the road alignment and stopping points, then return to the articulated version and approach turns more slowly, allowing the rear section to clear the corner.

N35 feels empty or unusually slow

That behavior is part of the service design: N35 has reduced traffic and passenger volumes and longer intervals than daytime 35A. Check the night timetable and lighting instead of judging it by daytime passenger density.

A practical first-week plan

Session Route and vehicle Skill target
1 Tram 37, one direction, ULF A or ULF B Controls, Schottentor departure and accurate stops
2 Tram 37, return direction Consistency and timetable awareness
3 Tram 38 Applying the same tram routine to a different route
4 35A with solo Citybus C2 Road positioning, traffic and bus stops
5 35A with articulated C2 Vehicle length and turning clearance
6 N35 solo bus Night lighting, longer intervals and reduced traffic
7 Your preferred route and vehicle Repeat the service where you want better punctuality or smoother driving

You can compress this plan into fewer sessions or repeat any stage. The important progression is tram before bus, daytime before night, and solo vehicle before articulated vehicle. It keeps each new difficulty attached to a route or vehicle you already understand.
