Open the exact product page and look for a “Notify Me,” “Notify me when it’s back,” or similar option. Sign in if prompted, subscribe, and check which email address or app notification channel will receive the alert. If the retailer does not offer a suitable alert, a browser extension that monitors multiple stores is another option. Neither type of alert reserves an item or guarantees it will still be available when you return.
Start with the retailer’s own alert
A product-page alert is usually the simplest place to begin: it is tied to the retailer and the item you want. Availability depends on the store and product, so the control may not appear on every page.
- Open the page for the exact product. Choose the size, color, model, or other variant you want before subscribing. Stock can differ by variant, though not every retailer says whether its alerts track variants separately.
- Select “Notify Me,” “Notify me when it’s back,” or the equivalent. Sign in or create an account if the site asks.
- Confirm the email address or app channel shown during signup. Target says website signups receive email and its app can send push notifications; iHerb describes email alerts. Target’s help page and iHerb’s help page explain their respective options.
- Set the correct destination country and delivery context if the retailer offers those choices. iHerb specifically advises shoppers to select the correct country. Target says its alerts do not apply to store inventory.
- Complete the signup and look for any confirmation the retailer provides. Keep the product page or account available so you can check the item yourself later if needed.
Choose the alert method that fits

There is no independent head-to-head evidence here for alert speed or reliability, so choose based on whether the exact retailer and item are supported, the region and inventory type covered, and whether you prefer email, push, or desktop notifications.

When an alert arrives, verify before buying
Open the product page promptly and check that the item is still available in the variant you want. Confirm the current price, seller, shipping destination, and delivery or pickup details before checkout. Popular items can sell out again; iHerb warns shoppers about this possibility.
Target is explicit that opting in “doesn’t reserve or guarantee item availability,” so an alert is a prompt to check, not a stock hold or purchase guarantee.

Troubleshoot missing or unhelpful alerts
- No alert option appears: The retailer may not offer notifications for that item. Check the selected variant and try the retailer’s app or another supported alert method.
- No email arrives: Verify the email address on the signup and check junk or promotions folders. These are practical checks, not a promise that the retailer sends a message for every restock.
- No app push appears: Confirm that notifications are allowed for the app in your device settings and that the retailer offers app alerts for the item.
- The item is unavailable after notification: Stock may have run out between the alert and your visit. Refresh the page and verify the region, variant, seller, and shipping options.
- A tracker does not recognize the page: Confirm that the exact product URL and retailer are supported. Review the extension’s requested permissions and privacy information before granting access; do not assume broad coverage means every listing is trackable.
