Use the official Nintendo Store app: add the game to your Wish List, then open User Page → Settings (gear) → Notification Settings and enable Release notifications. Keep notifications allowed for the app in your phone’s operating-system settings.
This setting covers release notifications for Wish List items. Nintendo does not promise a separate push alert every time a postponed game’s date changes, so confirm a new date in Nintendo eShop or on the game publisher’s official website, especially if you have already preordered.
What Nintendo’s notification setting actually covers
Nintendo’s documented mechanism is the Nintendo Store mobile app’s Wish List. When a game is on your Wish List and Release notifications are enabled, the app can notify you about that item’s release. Nintendo describes the app as providing notifications about “game releases, sales, upcoming events, items on your Wish List and more.”

That wording matters for delayed releases. A release notification is not the same as a guaranteed “the date just moved” alert. Nintendo’s support guidance does not promise a distinct push message for every schedule change. A game may receive a new date in the store listing without generating a separate rescheduling notification, so treat the app as an automated reminder and use a manual check to confirm the latest information.

What you need before setting it up
- An iPhone, iPad, or Android device that can install the Nintendo Store app.
- Access to the Nintendo Store app in a region where Nintendo eShop is available. Availability and features can vary by region.
- The game’s store listing, so you can place the correct title on your Wish List.
- Permission for the Nintendo Store app to send notifications in your device settings.
- Your Nintendo Account sign-in if you want account-linked features. The app can be opened without signing in, but signing in is the practical choice when you want your Wish List and related settings associated with your account.
You do not need to buy physical Switch hardware, a gift card, or a physical copy of the game to use this notification method. A preorder is also not required for a Wish List release notification.
Turn on release notifications step by step
- Install or open the Nintendo Store app. Use the iOS or Android version available in your region. If the app is already installed, update it through your device’s normal app-update process before configuring notifications.
- Sign in when prompted. Use the Nintendo Account associated with the eShop region in which you intend to follow the game. Signing in helps keep account-linked Wish List data and notification preferences together.
- Find the delayed game. Search for the exact title in the app. Check the edition and platform details carefully if the game has standard, deluxe, downloadable-content, or bundle listings.
- Add the title to your Wish List. Use the listing’s Wish List control. Adding the game is the step that makes it an item covered by the release-notification setting.
- Open the notification control. Go to User Page, tap the Settings gear, and choose Notification Settings.
- Enable release notifications. Turn on Release notifications for Wish List items. If the app presents separate categories, make sure the release category—not only sales or event categories—is enabled.
- Allow phone-level notifications. In iOS or Android settings, open the Nintendo Store app’s notification permissions and allow alerts. A setting inside the app cannot override a phone-level block.
- Leave the game on the Wish List. Removing the title removes it from the group for which the release setting is intended. If you switch accounts or regions, confirm that the title remains on the active account’s list.
The exact labels above are Nintendo’s documented navigation labels. Minor visual differences can occur between iOS and Android versions, but the sequence remains the same: Wish List first, then User Page, Settings, and Notification Settings.
How to verify that your phone will display an alert
Check the app permission
Open the phone’s system settings, locate the Nintendo Store app, and confirm that notifications are allowed. On iPhone, also review whether a Focus mode, scheduled summary, or notification-silencing rule is delaying delivery. On Android, check the app’s notification permission and any battery or background-activity restriction that could prevent timely alerts. The names of these controls differ by operating-system version and manufacturer.

Check account and region
Return to the app’s User Page and verify that you are using the account where the game was added. Nintendo eShop availability is regional, and a listing shown in one region may not match the release information in another. If you use multiple Nintendo Accounts, avoid assuming that a Wish List entry on one account will appear on another.
Check the listing itself
Open the game’s listing and make sure it is the intended title and edition. Similar names, remasters, demos, and bundles can have different release dates. A notification for one listing does not establish the date for every version of the game.
What to do when a delayed game receives a new date
Because Nintendo does not document a guaranteed push alert for every date change, use a two-part process: keep the game on the Wish List with release notifications enabled, and verify important changes manually.

For a game you have not preordered
- Open the game’s Nintendo eShop listing and read the current release-date field.
- Compare that date with the publisher’s official game website or announcement. If the two sources disagree, treat the discrepancy as unresolved until the publisher or Nintendo updates one of them.
- Keep the title on your Wish List after checking. Removing it would take it out of the notification group.
- When the date is close, check the listing again for the title’s release-time guidance and any regional qualification.
For a game you have preordered
- Check the latest release date in Nintendo eShop or on the game’s official website, following Nintendo’s support guidance for postponed releases.
- Review the reservation information on your console. If the date or other reservation details need attention, update the reservation information there as necessary.
- Do not assume that a previous preorder screen, calendar reminder, or app alert has changed just because a publisher announced a delay.
- Keep monitoring the official listing until the date is confirmed. A preorder establishes your purchase arrangement; it does not create a documented guarantee of a separate date-change push alert.
This process separates two questions that are easy to confuse: whether Nintendo can notify you about a Wish List release, and whether every schedule revision will trigger an immediate notification. The first is documented; the second is not guaranteed.

When Nintendo eShop games become available
A calendar date does not always identify the exact moment a digital game can be downloaded or launched. Nintendo says the publisher decides the exact release time, and timing can vary by title. Its general guidance uses Pacific Time and distinguishes digital-only software, software also sold physically, and some third-party releases.

These are Nintendo’s general release-time figures, not guaranteed launch times. Convert Pacific Time to your local time zone and check the individual listing if you need to know when a download should appear. A release notification may arrive around availability, but the alert itself should not be treated as a contractual launch-time promise.

Official Wish List alerts versus manual monitoring
Both methods are useful, but they solve different parts of the problem. The app reduces the chance that you will forget a game. Manual checks are the reliable way to catch information that has not yet generated an app notification.

A practical combination is to use the app for passive coverage and schedule manual checks after a known delay announcement, near the revised date, and whenever the publisher posts a new statement.

Troubleshooting missing or late notifications
The game is not listed in the app
Search by the full title and inspect alternate editions. If the listing is not available in your account’s eShop region, the app may not offer the same item. Confirm that you are signed in to the intended Nintendo Account before adding the title.

The game is on the Wish List but no alert arrived
First verify that Release notifications is enabled at User Page → Settings → Notification Settings. Next verify the phone’s notification permission, Focus or Do Not Disturb settings, battery restrictions, and connectivity. Then open Nintendo eShop and the publisher’s official site to determine whether the date actually changed or whether the listing still carries the old information.
The absence of an alert does not prove that the setting failed. Nintendo does not promise a separate push for every date revision, so a manual listing check remains necessary for postponed games.
The app shows a date that conflicts with the eShop
Record which account and region each screen is using, then compare the exact edition and platform. Store metadata can be updated at a different time from a publisher announcement. Use the current Nintendo eShop listing for the store-specific date and the publisher’s official communication for the announced schedule; if they conflict, wait for an authoritative update rather than treating either date as certain.
The date changed but the preorder details look unchanged
Review the reservation information on the console as Nintendo recommends for delayed preorders. If the reservation requires an action, follow the console’s current instructions. Keep the game on the Wish List and continue checking the eShop listing until the revised date is settled.
A monitoring routine that minimizes surprises
- At the first delay announcement: add the game to the Nintendo Store app Wish List if it is not already there and confirm Release notifications.
- After the publisher posts a replacement date: read the publisher’s official announcement and the Nintendo eShop listing separately. Note any regional or edition differences.
- For a preorder: inspect the console’s reservation information and make any required update.
- During the final week: recheck the eShop listing and the publisher’s site, especially if the game has been delayed more than once.
- On release day: use the listing’s current time information rather than relying on a generic calendar reminder. Nintendo’s general Pacific-Time guidance is only a starting point.
This routine gives the app a useful passive role without treating it as a complete change-detection system. It also keeps preorder administration separate from ordinary Wish List tracking.
