There are two different ways to get involved: look out for an invitation to YouTube’s invite-only Creator Community, or enable the separate Communities feature on your own channel to encourage discussion with subscribers. The first is for creator-to-creator learning; the second is for building conversation around your channel. Neither is a public sign-up scheme for everyone.
Choose the kind of community you want to join

YouTube also offers official help, education, and contribution routes that are separate from both options. Pick the route that matches whether you want peer learning, help with a YouTube issue, or direct conversation with your audience.
How to seek an invitation to YouTube’s Creator Community
YouTube describes the Creator Community as an invite-only educational program. Its stated benefits include a Community Partner Manager as a group coach, newsletters, workshops, events, and connections with other creators. The official Creator Community information page says to watch your email or YouTube Studio for enrollment details. Accepted creators are contacted with next steps; the guidance does not offer a universal open application form.
Understand the general eligibility considerations
YouTube says it generally works with active channels in regions where Community Partner Managers are available. It also considers growth potential, whether a channel has Community Guidelines strikes, whether it has more than one unresolved copyright strike, and whether its content is advertiser-friendly. Respectful behavior at events and workshops is expected.

These are general considerations, not a guaranteed admission checklist. Invitations are limited, regional availability can change, and YouTube says access may be removed if a creator no longer meets criteria or violates its guidelines. Meeting the considerations does not guarantee an invitation.
Know what happens after acceptance
The program begins with a bootcamp lasting up to 12 weeks, with 30–45-minute sessions weekly or biweekly. Sessions may be prerecorded for creators who cannot attend. The current program page lists YouTube Shopping, Channel Memberships, and vertical live as bootcamp tracks. During intake, a Community Partner Manager reviews a creator’s content, goals, and audience behavior and assigns a suitable track; the listed tracks are not necessarily options each participant can choose freely.

After bootcamp, graduates move into the ongoing Creator Community for continued peer networking, events, and group support. A Community Partner Manager provides group strategy and learning support, not individual account management or technical troubleshooting. For account problems, use YouTube’s support resources instead.
How to enable Communities on your YouTube channel
Channel Communities provide a dedicated discussion space beyond video comments and live chat. Subscribers can start discussions about videos and connect with one another. YouTube says Community posts may also be recommended on surfaces such as Home, Subscriptions, and Watch Next.

Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s Android setup guidance says a creator needs access to posts, must be over 16, and must not have a supervised-experience channel, an audience set as made for kids, or a VEVO channel. Eligibility and menus can vary as YouTube updates or rolls out features, so check the current official Communities setup instructions if the app does not show the same options.
Turn on the feature in the YouTube app for Android
- Open the YouTube app and go to your channel page.
- Select Posts.
- Tap Turn on my Community.
- Follow the Get Started banner to complete setup.
The cited setup path is for Android. Do not assume the exact labels or steps are identical on every platform.

Make your channel Community worth returning to
Start with a clear welcome and a useful prompt
Publish a welcome post explaining what the space is for, then ask a question connected to a recent video. For example, invite viewers to share which idea from the latest tutorial they tried, what they would like explained next, or how they approached a topic discussed in a video. A specific prompt gives people a clearer way to join in than a generic request to “comment.”
Build a regular rhythm
YouTube recommends announcing the space in videos and other channels, maintaining regular conversation prompts, engaging with subscribers’ posts, and creating shared traditions or recognizing milestones. You do not need to post constantly; choose a cadence you can sustain and respond in a way that shows subscribers their contributions are being noticed.

Set expectations and moderate actively
Decide what conversation belongs in the space and how you will handle spam, off-topic posts, or uncivil behavior. YouTube advises creators to take an active role, manage who can post or hold content for review, and consider assigning trusted moderators. Channel guidelines can explain expectations such as being civil, staying on topic, welcoming questions, and avoiding spam. YouTube’s guidance puts it simply: “Your guidelines tell viewers how to communicate on your channel.”
Custom channel guidelines communicate expectations; they do not automatically hide or remove comments or posts. YouTube’s Community Guidelines still apply to platform interactions and content, including comments, links, posts, and thumbnails. Check the current Community Guidelines when deciding how to handle a specific policy issue.
Other official ways to learn, get help, or contribute
- Get answers: The YouTube Help Community is an official place to look for answers and updates from TeamYouTube.
- Get creator support: Eligible creators may contact Creator Support through the Help Center or YouTube Studio chat. Chat is not available to every creator; see YouTube’s Creator Support guidance.
- Learn: YouTube for Creators and Creator Tips provide official creator education and guidance.
- Help other users: The YouTube Contributors program involves activities such as answering Help forum questions, supporting YouTube Music community members, and producing explanatory videos in several languages. Its page lists workshops, interaction with YouTube teams, and previews of products or features as potential benefits, and describes the program as beta and subject to change. It is distinct from the invite-only Creator Community.
