Use Etsy Open API v3 to retrieve listing and shop data you are authorized to access—not browser scraping. Etsy’s developer documentation says screen-scraping is not allowed, and its API Terms of Use restrict automated access unless Etsy expressly authorizes it in writing. The API can return listing details such as titles, shop IDs, and prices, but a listing’s documented price is only its minimum possible price; exact prices for available variations require the listing-inventory method.

Why use Etsy’s API instead of scraping pages?

Scraping Etsy search results or product pages with a browser, script, or extension is not a compliant workaround for missing API access. Etsy’s developer documentation states: “Applications must not sidestep the API to retrieve or post Etsy data. Screen-scraping is not allowed.” Its API Terms of Use, last updated 16 June 2025, also prohibit automated systems or browser extensions from accessing, analysing, or scraping Etsy sites, the API, or Etsy data unless expressly authorized in writing. The terms separately restrict using Etsy content for analytics, machine learning, AI training, licensing, or content removal unless authorized.

For an allowed integration, use Etsy Open API v3 over HTTPS, apply for the access tier that matches your use, and request only the data and OAuth scopes that the chosen endpoint requires. An API response is not blanket permission to reuse or republish its contents: check Etsy’s current terms and caching policies for your application.

Choose the right Etsy app access

Access path When it fits What to know
Seller App You need data for your own shop. Etsy Help recommends this for a seller’s own listings, orders, inventory, and related data.
Personal App You are building beyond one shop at limited scale. Etsy’s developer overview distinguishes this from Seller App and Commercial Access.
Commercial Access Your application serves other sellers more broadly. You need an approved Personal App, a compliant homepage, compliance with caching policies, and a clear distinction from Etsy. Etsy manually reviews requests; approval is not automatic.

Do not apply for broad marketplace access merely because it is technically convenient. Decide first whether the integration is for one shop, a limited multi-shop application, or a product intended to serve other sellers. The eligibility and review requirements differ.

What listing, price, and shop data can the API provide?

The listing reference documents fields including listing_id, shop_id, title, description, state, creation and update timestamps, quantity, URL, tags, materials, listing type, processing windows, maker and era fields, and tax- or shipping-related identifiers. Which fields you receive depends on the endpoint and the access it requires; do not assume every field is available from every listing request.

Interpret price correctly

The documented listing price is the minimum possible price, not necessarily the price of every size, color, or other variation. If you need exact prices for available offerings, use the listing-inventory method described in Etsy’s API reference. Sold-listing data is private, so do not treat it as generally available public listing data.

For a price comparison, preserve the distinction between a listing’s minimum and its available variation prices. Also record when the API returned the data and follow Etsy’s caching rules, especially for a commercial application. A stored value should not be represented as a live price if it has not been refreshed.

Register an app and authenticate requests

  1. Register an Etsy application. Choose Seller App, Personal App, or the applicable access path based on your intended use. Obtain the API keystring and shared secret through Etsy’s developer process.
  2. Select a documented API v3 method. Use the precise HTTPS endpoint and parameters listed for the method you need. The base URL is https://api.etsy.com/v3/application/; Etsy’s current API reference does not specify a particular listing or inventory route, so select and copy that route from Etsy’s current API reference rather than guessing it.
  3. Send the API key header on every request. Set x-api-key to <keystring>:<shared_secret>.
  4. Add OAuth only where required. Private-data and write operations require OAuth 2.0 with the endpoint’s required scope. Send Authorization: Bearer <user_id>.<oauth_token> for those requests. Request only the scope needed, such as a listing-read or listing-write scope.
  5. Keep credentials on a trusted server. Do not embed API keys, shared secrets, or OAuth tokens in browser code, a public repository, or a published tutorial. Load them from a secret store or environment variables, and rotate exposed credentials.

Make a request without guessing an endpoint

The exact route and query parameters depend on whether you are fetching a shop’s active listings, listing details, or inventory. Since those routes are endpoint-specific, the example below deliberately takes the endpoint from your environment after you copy it from Etsy’s API reference. It sends the required key header and can attach an OAuth token when the selected method needs one.

import os
import requests

endpoint = os.environ["ETSY_ENDPOINT"] # Exact HTTPS URL from Etsy's API reference
keystring = os.environ["ETSY_KEYSTRING"]
shared_secret = os.environ["ETSY_SHARED_SECRET"]

headers = {"x-api-key": f"{keystring}:{shared_secret}"}
token = os.environ.get("ETSY_OAUTH_TOKEN")
user_id = os.environ.get("ETSY_USER_ID")
if token and user_id:
    headers["Authorization"] = f"Bearer {user_id}.{token}"

response = requests.get(endpoint, headers=headers, timeout=30)
response.raise_for_status()
data = response.json()
print(data)

Set ETSY_ENDPOINT to the full URL of the exact documented method you are authorized to call. Add that method’s documented query parameters in requests.get(..., params=...) if it requires them. A public application request may need only the API key header; a private or write method needs the applicable OAuth authorization and scope. The example does not assume an undocumented route or response shape.

cURL request shape

curl --get "$ETSY_ENDPOINT"
  --header "x-api-key: $ETSY_KEYSTRING:$ETSY_SHARED_SECRET"
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $ETSY_USER_ID.$ETSY_OAUTH_TOKEN"

Include the Authorization header only when the endpoint requires OAuth. Supply the endpoint’s documented query parameters as cURL parameters; do not append guessed fields or scrape page HTML when a response is unavailable.

Plan a reliable data collection workflow

  1. Define the minimum fields. For a product-and-shop catalogue, identify the listing fields and shop information your use case needs. Request no more than necessary.
  2. Choose the corresponding endpoint and access tier. Confirm the method’s access requirements and OAuth scopes in Etsy’s current API reference before implementation.
  3. Store provenance with each record. Keep the listing ID, shop ID, state, timestamps, and retrieval time alongside the fields you use. This makes updates and stale values easier to identify.
  4. Handle price as a range of possibilities, not a universal variant price. Use listing inventory when exact current offering prices are needed and the method is authorized for your application.
  5. Refresh responsibly. Apply Etsy’s caching policies, especially if you have Commercial Access. Do not imply cached content is current when it may have changed.
  6. Review the use of collected data. Confirm that storage, analytics, display, and any downstream processing comply with Etsy’s terms and the permissions granted to your app.

Common errors and what to check

  • Unauthorized or forbidden response: Verify that the app has the required access, that you are using the right endpoint, and that an OAuth-protected method has a valid token with the needed scope. Commercial Access requests are manually reviewed.
  • Authentication failure: Check that the API key header uses the keystring and shared secret in the required colon-separated format. For OAuth requests, verify the bearer token and user ID format and that the token has not expired.
  • Missing or unexpected fields: Confirm that the endpoint returns the field you expect and that it is available for that access level and listing state. Do not infer a private field from a public listing response.
  • Price does not match a variation: The listing-level price represents the minimum possible price. Use the listing-inventory method for exact available offering prices when authorized.
  • A method or route does not work: Recheck the current Etsy API reference for the exact endpoint, required path values, parameters, and scopes. Do not substitute a browser request or copied page markup.
  • Data appears stale: Compare stored timestamps with the latest API response and revise the refresh schedule to comply with the caching rules that apply to your access.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not an Etsy listing API. Etsy’s rules do not make screenshots a substitute for authorized data access; do not use automated screenshots to collect Etsy listings or prices. For a site you are authorized to capture, this one-call example returns an image:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://etsy.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Frequently Asked Questions

Does Etsy publish a specific market-wide listing count or scrape-accuracy figure for this workflow?

No topic-specific statistic of that kind is established here. The dependable implementation details are the API’s documented fields and Etsy’s stated access rules.

Can I assume Commercial Access will be granted if my application meets the listed conditions?

No. Etsy describes Commercial Access requests as manually reviewed, so meeting the stated requirements does not guarantee approval.
