For a catalog workflow, build requests from your store’s product URL inventory, choose consistent viewport and output settings, and save each image with the settings and capture time. The API captures what a page renders; it is not documented as a product-data extraction or catalog-validation service. Its documentation describes general controls, not India-specific localization behavior, so verify language, currency, and market presentation on your own storefront.
How do I take screenshots of product pages in bulk?
Screenshotlayer’s documented model is a URL-based REST request with an account access key. A catalog job can generate one request per product URL and per chosen capture variant. Start with an authoritative list of product URLs rather than constructing URLs from product names.
- Define the capture set. Decide whether you need product detail pages only or also category, campaign, and other page types. Keep the source URL inventory under your control.
- Choose capture variants. Specify the viewport, output format, and whether each result should show the full page or a thumbnail. Add language or user-agent headers only when you need to test how the storefront responds to them.
- Generate API requests. Send the encoded target URL and access key to the current endpoint and syntax shown in your Screenshotlayer account documentation. The FAQ gives the API base pattern as
http://api.screenshotlayer.com/api/capture?access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY; use HTTPS where the current account documentation supports it. The homepage’s printed example has a hostname typo, so do not copy it literally. - Save image and metadata together. Record the source URL, capture time, viewport, language and user-agent settings, output format, and any refresh or retry information. The documentation describes export to S3 or FTP; confirm current plan eligibility before relying on either destination.
- Review results. Inspect a sample for consent overlays, blocked pages, missing lazy-loaded content, or an unexpected locale. Screenshotlayer’s documented controls do not establish that it automatically handles these conditions.
The official documentation describes the capture endpoint and controls, but the material available here does not establish a current HTTPS endpoint path or provide a complete request example suitable for copy-and-run use. Confirm the current endpoint syntax in your account documentation rather than guessing. Keep the access key out of browser-side code, source control, and public logs.
Can I capture a full ecommerce product page?
Yes. Screenshotlayer documents full-page capture, which is useful when product information extends below the initial viewport. The homepage illustrates a request using url, viewport, and fullpage=1. For compact previews, it also documents a custom thumbnail width using width. Decide based on the image’s purpose: a full-page capture preserves more of a long detail page, while a thumbnail is easier to display in a compact catalog review.

Check the resulting image dimensions and your storage and display requirements. The available documentation establishes capture controls but does not promise that every page’s lazy-loaded sections, overlays, or interactive content will appear as intended.
How do I get mobile and desktop screenshots?
Set the documented viewport for each variant. Capture both mobile and desktop only when both views serve a review or display need; each additional URL, viewport variant, or refresh increases the number of API calls. If a page changes its rendering based on device signals beyond viewport size, a matching custom user-agent is another documented option.
Keep the chosen viewport dimensions and user-agent with the saved image metadata so that later comparisons use the same conditions. The documentation supports viewport selection and custom user-agent headers; it does not provide a standard India-specific set of device dimensions.

Can I set the language for a screenshot?
Screenshotlayer documents custom Accept-Language headers. This can request a language preference, but it cannot force a storefront to provide Hindi, Indian-market pricing, or a particular currency. The rendered language and market details depend on the target site’s own locale behavior, URL structure, account state, and other conditions.

Test the actual product URL with the language header you intend to use and inspect the result before scaling the job. If the store selects locale by URL or another mechanism, use the store’s supported route or configuration rather than assuming a header alone changes it.

The FAQ states that the default screenshot cache period is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days) and that a custom ttl value can be lower than the default. For pages whose price, stock, or promotions change, choose a refresh policy that fits the image’s purpose. A screenshot is a visual record at capture time, not evidence of current inventory or price.

How many screenshots do I need for my catalog?
Estimate the workload as:
Product URLs × viewport and locale variants × capture frequency
Add retries and any category or campaign pages separately. For example, if you capture every product in one desktop view and one mobile view, each product contributes two captures per run; adding a second locale variant doubles those variants again. This is planning arithmetic based on per-request usage, not a vendor performance statistic.
Compare the resulting monthly total with the vendor-published quotas below. These prices and plan descriptions were listed on Screenshotlayer’s official pricing page, but the page does not state a year for the figures; confirm live terms and your account dashboard before budgeting.

These are vendor-displayed figures, not a guarantee of unchanged current rates; check the live pricing, overages, and account pages.

Screenshotlayer’s terms make the subscriber responsible for keeping credentials secret, understanding usage limits, and detecting and handling returned errors. Build error handling into the catalog job, record failed requests, and decide which failures merit a retry. Do not assume an unsuccessful capture is a valid product image.
The terms page says it was last modified 17 February 2018 and includes restrictions on redistribution and exploitation of API services or data, alongside conditions under which display to end users is permitted. Because that page is dated, review the current agreement for your exact storage, publication, and reuse plan before distributing captures beyond your application.
