Write a prompt that specifies the screen
Include the screen type, target device, audience, important content and visual direction. For example:
“Create a responsive dashboard for a small logistics company. Desktop first, with a mobile layout. Show today’s deliveries, delayed shipments, a searchable table, status filters and a prominent ‘Create shipment’ button. Use an accessible navy, white and amber palette, clear data hierarchy, compact cards and realistic but fictional labels.”
Ask for two or three alternatives when you are exploring information architecture. Then select one direction and make focused changes such as “move filters above the table,” “increase contrast for warning states,” or “replace the hero illustration with a compact summary.”
Refine instead of treating the first image as final
- Check that every required section exists and that the hierarchy matches the task.
- Replace invented copy, icons and data with approved content.
- Inspect desktop and mobile arrangements separately; a generated desktop composition may not reflow sensibly.
- Review contrast, focus states, labels and tap-target sizes before sharing the concept.
- Export a screenshot only after the design is stable, and label it as a concept in presentations.
Understand the free allowance
Figma says its Starter plan is free and currently shows 150 AI credits per day, up to 500 AI credits per month (pricing page reviewed September 29, 2026). The allowance is a plan limit, not an unlimited-generation promise, and Figma says some Make features consume credits according to the plan. Check the current pricing page before planning a large batch of concepts.

Turn a screenshot into editable design layers in Figma
When you already have a reference image, use Figma’s screenshot-to-design workflow rather than asking a text generator to redraw it. Figma describes adding the screenshot to the canvas and asking its agent to extract the full layout or selected components.
Conversion procedure
- Place the screenshot on a Figma canvas at its original pixel dimensions.
- Open the screenshot-to-design action described on Figma’s converter page.
- Choose whether to extract the entire layout or a selected component, such as a navigation bar or pricing card.
- Inspect the generated layers: text, spacing, colors, borders, images and component boundaries.
- Replace approximated assets and correct typography manually, then compare the editable result against the reference at 100% zoom.
Accuracy depends on screenshot clarity and complexity, according to Figma’s FAQ. Small type, compressed images, gradients, overlapping elements and unusual controls are especially likely to need correction. Treat the conversion as a starting point, not a pixel-perfect measurement or an automatically reusable design system.
When this method is appropriate
- Good fit: rebuilding a legacy screen, extracting a visual pattern, or creating a rough editable starting point when source files are missing.
- Not a substitute for: source-of-truth design files, semantic HTML, accessibility specifications or product behavior documentation.
- Permission check: only convert screens you are allowed to use; an editable recreation does not grant rights to someone else’s interface or images.
Create a website or phone mockup in Canva
Canva’s website and phone mockup generator is for presentation: it places your design or capture inside a device frame so a portfolio, proposal or social post looks contextualized.
Mockup steps
- Open Canva’s website or phone mockup workflow and choose a device or browser frame.
- Upload the finished design or a genuine screenshot.
- Drop the image into the frame and adjust fit, alignment, crop and orientation.
- Add only the surrounding text or shapes needed for the intended presentation.
