For a new Khazalite Holds force, buy the official Army Set first if it is still the current launch box: it combines a Spearhead force, Battletome: Khazalite Holds and 53 warscroll cards. If you already own Fyreslayers, inventory every unit before spending more, because Games Workshop is moving several kits and faction assets to Warhammer Legends. Treat the Army Set as a current-rules starting point, not a guarantee that every profile will remain competitively supported for years.
What future-proofing means for a Khazalite Holds army
Future-proofing cannot make a Warhammer army immune to edition changes, points updates or event-pack restrictions. It means reducing the amount of plastic and money exposed to a rules change while keeping your collection playable in several formats. The safest purchases are those that are legal in the current Khazalite Holds battletome, fill a role an army needs regardless of a small balance adjustment, and can still be used in Spearhead, narrative or casual games if matched-play priorities shift.
The announced information is transitional. Games Workshop’s faction preview was published on 18 September 2026, its Fyreslayers transition article on 9 October 2026, the grudge-mark preview on 12 October 2026 and the Ancestral Vows preview on 13 October 2026. Those announcements establish the launch direction, but they do not provide a multi-year guarantee for every unit, final points value or event policy. Make each purchase against the latest battletome, battle profiles and the rules pack for the events you attend.
Why the Army Set is the logical first purchase
The Khazalite Holds Army Set is described as a launch box containing three things a new player otherwise has to assemble separately:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Included item | Why it matters for a new force | What is not established yet |
|---|---|---|
| Full Spearhead force | Provides a ready-made, coherent starting group for the Spearhead format and a core of models to expand. | The box’s final points total and how long it will remain in print are not stated. |
| Battletome: Khazalite Holds | Supplies the faction rules needed to understand the army’s current mechanics, warscrolls and army construction. | Future revisions, points changes and later battle profiles can alter how individual units perform. |
| 53 warscroll cards | Gives quick table reference for the launch roster without relying on a separate card purchase. | The contents of later card products or revised cards are not stated. |
That combination makes the box the clearest launch purchase for someone starting from zero. Confirm that the seller identifies the current edition, check the seal and language edition, and compare the contents with the official product description before paying. Games Workshop has not announced stock, regional availability or price.
When the Army Set is less efficient
An existing Fyreslayers player may already own models that overlap with the Spearhead force. Buying the box solely for the battletome or cards can leave duplicate miniatures. In that case, price the rules materials and the incremental models separately, then decide whether the duplicate units have a practical use as a second Spearhead force, alternate equipment options or painting projects. Do not assume that a launch box is automatically the cheapest route for a collection you partly own.
Audit a Fyreslayers collection before buying anything else
Games Workshop says Fyreslayers are moving into the Khazalite Holds battletome. Sort your collection into three groups, recording the exact kit and any assembled variants rather than relying on memory.

Group 1: Fyreslayers material listed as supported
The transition announcement lists the following Fyreslayers material as part of the supported range:
- Auric Runefather and Auric Runeson variants
- Auric Runesmiter variants
- Auric Flamekeeper
- Grimhold Exile
- Vulkyn Flameseekers
- Auric Hearthguard
- Hearthguard Berzerkers
- The new Ormyr and Ashtongue
Being listed as supported means these entries are part of the announced Khazalite Holds roster. It does not establish their final points, competitive ranking or permanent inclusion in future editions. Check the printed battletome and the most recent battle profiles before duplicating any of them.
Group 2: Units and assets moving to Warhammer Legends
Games Workshop identifies Vulkite Berzerkers, Auric Runemaster, Battlesmith, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge and Magmic Invocations as moving to Warhammer Legends. These models remain useful for casual games, narrative play and any event that permits Legends, but they are a risky foundation for a new matched-play investment because their long-term tournament support is not promised.

Group 3: Rules or points requiring confirmation
Keep a separate note for anything whose current warscroll, points value, weapon option or event legality you cannot verify. A model’s presence in a collection is not proof that its old warscroll still applies. Before purchasing a second copy, identify the exact entry in the current battletome, look up its current battle profile and read the event pack’s Legends policy. If one of those checks is unavailable, postpone the duplicate purchase.

Games Workshop states that units moving to Legends remain usable in competitive events for 12 months after the new book releases. The announcement describes this as time for players to give the units a final tour of local Warhammer events while considering future army compositions. The window is measured from the new book’s release, not from the date you bought the models, so record the battletome release date when it is confirmed.
Use that period as a planning runway rather than a reason to stockpile. You can finish painting an existing unit, learn its role and use it in events that accept it, but buying several additional boxes just before a support change concentrates risk in the shortest-lived option. After the window, legality depends on the individual event and its current pack; Legends status does not automatically mean a model is unusable everywhere.
Build around the current Khazalite Holds mechanics
Unit value should be judged against the rules that are actually published, not against an older Fyreslayers list. The grudge-mark preview says marks can be assigned after losses and can grant defensive benefits to nearby units. That creates a reason to examine how a purchase interacts with damaged units, proximity and objective defense rather than looking only at its weapon profile.
The Ancestral Vows preview describes five once-per-battle army abilities tied to the Ancestor Gods, including Valaya and Gazul. Because each ability is limited to once per battle, a list can gain value from having several units able to exploit the timing and positioning those vows reward. The preview does not establish final wording, points or a universal competitive build, so use the mechanics as evaluation questions instead of promises of performance.
Questions to ask about every prospective unit
- Does it hold an objective, screen a valuable model or contest space the army must occupy?
- Does it provide ranged support, durable infantry, mobility or hero support that the rest of the collection lacks?
- Can it benefit from grudge marks or help a nearby unit make use of the army’s defensive interactions?
- Does it create useful timing choices for one of the five Ancestral Vows?
- Would the models still have a clear role in Spearhead, narrative play or a casual scenario if matched-play points change?
This approach avoids buying a unit only because an early list or online discussion rates it highly. A balance update can change efficiency; a collection with several distinct battlefield roles remains usable even when the preferred build changes.

A purchase sequence that limits rules risk
- Verify the launch package. Confirm that the Army Set is the current Khazalite Holds release and that the box contains the Spearhead force, battletome and 53 warscroll cards. Check the edition and seller before purchase.
- Inventory existing models. List every Fyreslayers kit, variant, base size and unfinished build. Mark each entry as supported, moving to Legends or requiring rules confirmation.
- Buy the rules you need. If you own enough models already, obtain the current battletome and the latest rules references before adding miniatures. Do not plan from an older warscroll or points value.
- Identify one missing battlefield role. Choose the next unit because it supplies objective control, ranged support, durable infantry or another role absent from your current force, not because it was strong in a previous edition.
- Purchase a single test unit. Assemble and play one copy before buying multiples. Record whether it works with your grudge-mark and Ancestral Vow decisions and whether you enjoy painting and using it.
- Recheck profiles before duplication. Read the latest battle profiles and the event pack immediately before ordering a second or third copy. This is especially important when a unit’s points, minimum size or battlefield role has changed.
- Keep a transition reserve. Set aside part of the budget for a future battletome, cards or replacement core rather than spending the entire amount on units whose status is uncertain.
Compare purchase routes with the same decision criteria
When choosing between the Army Set, a battletome-only purchase, an individual supported kit or more Legends models, score each route against the following criteria.
| Criterion | Army Set | Supported individual kit | Legends or departing kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rules longevity | Contains the launch rules package, but individual profiles can still change. | Depends on the unit’s place in the current battletome and later updates. | Games Workshop has announced a move to Legends; long-term matched-play support is not promised. |
| Rules coverage | Battletome and 53 warscroll cards are included. | Models only unless the seller bundles another product. | May require older references and an event-specific Legends policy. |
| Army role | Provides the advertised Spearhead force; inspect the exact contents before deciding on gaps. | Can target one missing role such as infantry, artillery or hero support. | Useful for existing collections and casual themes, but risky as the core of a new competitive plan. |
| Reuse value | Models have Spearhead and casual potential in addition to matched play. | Reuse depends on the kit’s future warscroll and how well its models fit other formats. | Casual, narrative and permitted Legends games remain the clearest reuse cases. |
| Timing risk | Launch stock and contents are time-sensitive. | Final profiles and points must be checked before buying multiples. | The 12-month competitive-use window starts with the new book’s release. |
The table is a risk framework, not a ranking. A player who already owns most of the Army Set’s models may rationally choose the battletome instead, while a new player may value the bundled rules enough to accept launch-stock uncertainty.
Choose a plan for your situation
Starting from no Fyreslayers models
Use the Army Set as the initial rules-and-models package if it is available as the current release. Learn the Spearhead force, play several games and note which battlefield role your games expose as a weakness. Add one supported unit at a time after checking its current profile. Avoid buying a second copy of every unit before you know whether the army’s mechanics and play style suit you.
Owning a small Fyreslayers force
Complete the three-group audit first. Keep supported units that fill roles you enjoy, use the new battletome to understand how they interact with grudge marks and Ancestral Vows, and add only the missing role. If the Army Set duplicates most of your collection, compare the value of its battletome and cards with buying those rules separately.
Owning a large collection with Vulkite Berzerkers
Do not discard painted models because of the Legends move. Mark the date on which the new book releases, use the announced competitive window where your events allow it, and ask each organizer how Legends are handled after that period. Redirect new spending toward supported Khazalite Holds entries while retaining the older units for casual and narrative games.
Competing in events regularly
Make the event pack part of your purchase checklist. A unit can be present in the battletome yet restricted by a points update, roster limit or event-specific rule, while a Legends unit can be legal in one event and excluded in another. Delay large orders until the profiles and the pack for your target event are published and current.

Playing mainly casual or narrative games
You have more freedom to retain Legends models and build a themed force. Agree on the applicable warscrolls and points with opponents before the game, and keep a supported core so that the collection can also join Spearhead or other organized play when desired.

Budget and hobby practices that reduce regret
Separate rules spending from model spending
Track the battletome, warscroll cards and miniatures as separate lines in your budget. The Army Set bundles all three, but an existing owner may need only the rules. This prevents the apparent convenience of a box from disguising duplicate models.
Build in stages
Assemble, paint and play each stage before committing to the next. Keep kits on sprue when you are genuinely waiting for a profile clarification, but do not treat sealed plastic as an investment: the announcements provide no resale, scarcity or price guarantee.
Preserve option value
Follow the current assembly instructions and retain unused components, alternate heads and weapon parts. Label storage boxes by unit and version. These habits make it easier to reconfigure a force after a warscroll update without claiming that a particular build will remain optimal.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Buying multiples from an old list
Problem: A previous Fyreslayers list used a unit heavily, so you order several copies without checking its new role. Correction: Verify the current warscroll and battle profile, buy one copy, and test it with the new mechanics before expanding.
Assuming battletome inclusion equals permanent support
Problem: A unit appears in the launch book, so you assume it is protected for future editions. Correction: Treat inclusion as evidence of current support only. Keep a mixed collection of roles and recheck every edition or major rules update.
Discarding Legends models immediately
Problem: You sell or strip painted Vulkite Berzerkers and other departing units before checking event policies. Correction: Record the 12-month competitive-use window, ask organizers about post-window legality and retain models for casual or narrative games.

Problem: You compare only model counts and overlook the battletome and 53 cards. Correction: Value the rules materials separately and compare the box with the cost and availability of the items you actually need.
Planning from previews as if they were final rules
Problem: A preview mechanic is treated as a complete army list or guaranteed combo. Correction: Use grudge marks and Ancestral Vows to identify questions, then make the final decision from the battletome, current profiles and event pack.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Is this the current Khazalite Holds edition and an authentic product?
- Does the Army Set contain the advertised Spearhead force, battletome and 53 warscroll cards?
- Have you listed every Fyreslayers model you already own?
- Is the prospective unit in the current Khazalite Holds battletome?
- Has Games Workshop announced that it is moving to Warhammer Legends?
- What battlefield role does the purchase fill?
- How does it interact with grudge marks or one of the five Ancestral Vows?
- Would you still use the models in Spearhead, narrative or casual games after a matched-play change?
- Have you checked current battle profiles, points and the rules pack for your event?
- Are you buying one test unit or duplicating a unit whose status is uncertain?
- Have you verified regional stock, seller, edition and price at the time of purchase?
Bottom line
Future-proofing a Khazalite Holds army is a process of staged commitment. Start with the Army Set when you need a complete launch rules package, audit Fyreslayers models before accepting duplicates, keep Legends units as a deliberate casual or short-term competitive choice, and make every additional purchase earn its place through a current battlefield role. Recheck the battletome, battle profiles and event policy immediately before spending on multiples, because the official announcements describe the transition but do not guarantee permanent competitive support.
