Then check sustained speed and playback quality, isolate Wi-Fi from the broadband connection, and refresh the app or browser. These checks help narrow down the cause; they do not by themselves prove that BSNL is at fault. YouTube’s official guidance is general, and it does not establish a BSNL-wide fault or a single BSNL-specific router setting that fixes the problem.
Start by narrowing down where the error occurs
Write down the exact message on screen—for example, YouTube lists “Connection to server lost” and “Playback error. Tap to retry”—and note when it appears. There is no distinct official BSNL-specific error message, so the exact wording matters more than calling it a particular BSNL error.
- Refresh the stream and try another live stream. If only one stream fails, the problem may be limited to that stream or its delivery. If several fail, continue with the device and connection checks.
- Try YouTube on another device using the same BSNL connection. If the second device works, focus first on the failing device’s app or browser, extensions, cache, updates, or software.
- Try the same device on another connection, such as mobile data. Be mindful of mobile-data charges. If it works on mobile data but not on BSNL, the comparison points to the home-network or ISP path, but does not identify whether the cause is Wi-Fi, the router or ONT, local congestion, routing, or a BSNL issue.
- Check other services. If multiple devices or non-YouTube services also have trouble, record that for BSNL rather than treating the issue as YouTube-only.
YouTube recommends testing a different internet connection and checking whether other people using the network reduce the speed available to your device. See YouTube’s video-error troubleshooting guide.
Check speed and lower playback quality
Run a speed test near the device you are watching on. If possible, test when household internet use is quiet and again when the error happens. Temporarily lower YouTube’s playback quality and see whether the stream becomes more stable.

These are approximate recommendations published by YouTube Help; the page gives no publication year. They are not guarantees for every live event or a diagnosis of BSNL service. A speed test is a snapshot: it does not establish that the connection is stable over time, free of packet loss, or using a reliable route to a particular stream. Read YouTube’s video-error troubleshooting guide for its guidance and context.
Separate Wi-Fi problems from broadband problems
- Move closer to the router and reduce obstructions between it and your device.
- Temporarily pause downloads and other high-bandwidth activity on the home network.
- If your devices have compatible Ethernet ports, compare playback over a wired connection. This is an optional diagnostic check, not a requirement to buy equipment. If wired playback works but Wi-Fi does not, that points toward the wireless part of the connection; it does not prove a broadband-provider fault.
YouTube notes that router range, interference, and other connected-device use can affect playback. It also cautions that network congestion and other factors can cause live-programming issues or delays even when the network seems good. See YouTube’s streaming and video troubleshooting guidance.

Refresh the app, browser, or device
On a browser
- Reload the YouTube page, then close and reopen the browser.
- Update the browser if an update is available.
- Test with extensions disabled or in a private window. If playback works there, an extension or browser setting may be involved.
- Clear cache and cookies if the error persists; this may sign you out of sites.
In the YouTube app or on a TV
- Close and reopen the YouTube app.
- Check for YouTube app and device-system updates.
- Restart the device, then test the stream again.
Check DNS only if the issue continues
YouTube recommends checking DNS configuration, but does not prescribe a particular public DNS address as a BSNL-specific fix. If you inspect DNS settings, check whether a third-party app or manual setting changed them. Avoid changing DNS, IPv6, MTU, VPN, or router mode as a blanket remedy: the available official guidance does not establish those changes as solutions for YouTube live-stream errors on BSNL. If you understand the current settings and choose to test a change, change one variable at a time and note how to restore it.

When and how to contact BSNL
Contact BSNL if the problem persists across devices, affects other services, or continues after you have compared Wi-Fi, wired playback (if available), and another connection. Before contacting support, collect:
- The exact on-screen error or a screenshot.
- The date and time it occurred, including whether it happens mainly at busy times.
- Your city or area and service type, such as FTTH/Bharat Fiber or other BSNL broadband.
- Whether other YouTube live streams, devices, and non-YouTube services are affected.
- Speed-test results, the playback-quality setting, and whether you used Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or another connection.
- Your router or ONT model, if known, and any settings you changed.
BSNL’s Contact Us page lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fiber/landline. The applicable route can vary by service and location, so verify that it applies to your connection. You can also use the BSNL online complaint portal and complaint-tracking page.
