If Valor Mortis will not install or launch through PC Game Pass, work through the problem in this order: verify that the signed-in Microsoft account has PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate access in your region, confirm Windows 10/11 version 22H2 or newer, check the published hardware and SSD requirements, update Windows, Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app, repair the Store and Xbox apps, then repair Gaming Services. Reinstall only after those checks. This sequence separates an entitlement problem from a Windows, service, storage, or launch problem without deleting files at random.
First, identify what is failing
“Valor Mortis does not work” can describe several different failures. The first screen that fails determines where to start.

Do not assume that a missing game and a failed launch have the same cause. The Xbox PC app handles entitlement, download, and launch, while Microsoft Store and Gaming Services provide separate parts of that delivery chain.

Confirm that your Game Pass access includes the PC edition
Use the account that owns the subscription
- Open the Xbox PC app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds the subscription. Microsoft’s Store-app guidance starts with signing in to the Microsoft account.
- Search for Valor Mortis and open its product page.
- Check that the page identifies PC support and shows access through PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate.
Xbox lists Valor Mortis for PC and identifies it as included with PC Game Pass and Ultimate. That does not guarantee access in every situation: the catalog can vary by plan, region, platform, and the game’s current availability. If the page shows a purchase option instead of an install option, check those conditions before troubleshooting your PC.

Check platform and catalog conditions
- A console-only listing will not install through the Xbox PC app. The listing must identify the PC version.
- Game Pass catalogs are not universal. A title can be listed by Xbox yet unavailable for a particular region or plan.
- If you recently changed subscriptions, sign out of the Xbox PC app, close it, reopen it, and sign in again with the account that owns the active plan.
- Do not download an unofficial installer to bypass a missing entitlement; it will not correct an account or catalog restriction.
Valor Mortis is listed with an October 13, 2026 release date. Availability after that date still depends on the live catalog rather than the release date alone.
Check Windows and the published PC requirements
Windows version required by the Xbox PC app
The Xbox PC app requires Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or newer. To check it, press Windows key + R, enter winver, and press Enter. Confirm both the Windows edition and the version number. If the version is earlier than 22H2, install pending feature updates before trying to install the game again.
A computer can meet the game’s component requirements and still fail in the Xbox app if its Windows build is too old. Treat the 22H2 requirement as a prerequisite for the app, not as an optional update.

The SSD requirement is material. An HDD does not satisfy the listed requirement, and a drive that is nearly full can prevent a package from being staged even when its headline free-space figure appears close to 60 GB. A 1TB NVMe SSD leaves more working space for Windows and games than a small, nearly full system drive, but the documented requirement is the game’s 60 GB of available storage on an SSD.
Separate a requirements failure from an app failure
If your processor, graphics card, or memory is below the listed minimum, an app repair cannot make the machine meet the requirement. Record the component that falls short before spending time on reinstall attempts. If the hardware meets the table and Windows is on 22H2 or newer, continue with the software workflow.
Update every delivery component before reinstalling
Updates can repair registration and compatibility problems without removing the game. Use this order so that the Xbox app and Store are working from the same current Windows installation.

- Install Windows updates. Open Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, install all applicable updates, and restart when Windows requests it. Microsoft’s supported sequence explicitly starts by making sure Windows is up to date.
- Update Microsoft Store. Open Microsoft Store, select Library (or the Store’s updates area in your Windows build), and install available updates. Keep the Store signed in while it updates.
- Update the Xbox PC app. If an update is offered in the Store or inside the Xbox app, install it. Close the Xbox app completely after the update and reopen it.
- Restart Windows. Use Start > Power > Restart, not merely closing the laptop lid. A restart reloads the updated Store and Gaming Services components.
After the restart, search for Valor Mortis again and try the install from the Xbox app. If the title is still missing, return to entitlement checks; do not treat a catalog restriction as a corrupted download.

Use Repair first
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Store, open its menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair. This attempts to correct the app without removing its data.
- Repeat the process for the Xbox app.
- Open Xbox again, sign in, and retry the installation from the library or the Valor Mortis product page.
Use Reset when Repair changes nothing
If Repair does not change the behavior, return to each app’s Advanced options and select Reset. Reset can remove the app’s local state, so you may need to sign in again and reselect preferences. It does not change your Game Pass subscription. Reset Microsoft Store and Xbox separately, reopen both, and retry.
Microsoft documents repair, reset, and reinstall as supported remedies for Store-app problems. Reinstalling the Xbox app is a later step because it takes longer and does not address an account that lacks PC entitlement.

Repair Gaming Services when installation loops or launch fails
Gaming Services is a separate dependency from the Xbox interface. If the app reports a Gaming Services error, repeatedly returns to the Install button, or finishes installation but cannot start the game, repair that dependency before deleting the game folder.
- Open the Xbox PC app and look for its Gaming Services repair workflow or prompt. Bethesda’s Xbox-app guidance describes a repair tool that checks Gaming Services and installs required service updates.
- Allow the tool to check and apply the updates it offers. Do not cancel it when the Xbox app appears to pause while the service is being repaired.
- Restart Windows after the repair completes.
- Open Xbox, verify the same Microsoft account is signed in, and try the install or launch again.
If the repair workflow is not offered, first complete Windows, Microsoft Store, and Xbox updates, then reopen Xbox. The exact wording of the prompt can change with the app version, but the purpose is the same: restore the service that handles Game Pass installation and launch operations.

Confirm capacity and drive type
- Open File Explorer > This PC and inspect the drive selected in Xbox for at least 60 GB of available space.
- Confirm that the destination is an SSD, as required by the published minimum. If Xbox is pointed at an HDD, change the install location to an SSD.
- Check the actual destination, not only the C: drive. Xbox can use another internal drive, and free space on a different volume does not satisfy the destination requirement.
- Keep the computer connected to power during a large install and avoid putting Windows to sleep while the download is active.
Choose the correct library location
In the Xbox PC app, review its install settings and select the SSD with sufficient capacity. If the app repeatedly chooses a drive that is full or unavailable, correct the default location before pressing Install again. An install that stops at the same point every time is more consistent with a destination or service problem than with a missing Game Pass entitlement.

Retry installation from the Xbox app library
Once entitlement, Windows, hardware, Store, Xbox, Gaming Services, and the destination drive are valid, perform one controlled retry:
- Restart Windows one more time after the last repair or update.
- Open the Xbox PC app and sign in with the subscribing account.
- Open Library, locate Valor Mortis, and select Install.
- Choose the verified SSD and watch the download status until installation completes.
- Launch from the same Xbox app library entry. Xbox describes the app as the place to browse the Game Pass library, download games, and launch them directly.
Launching from the library keeps the entitlement and Gaming Services context consistent. Avoid creating a desktop shortcut or using an old shortcut until the first launch succeeds from Xbox.
When reinstalling is justified
Reinstall only after updates, app repair/reset, Gaming Services repair, and the drive check. It is appropriate when the game shows as installed but every launch attempt fails, or when an install repeatedly stops after the underlying services and destination have been corrected.
- In the Xbox app, open Valor Mortis’s management controls and uninstall the existing installation.
- Restart Windows so the Xbox and Gaming Services components release the old installation state.
- Confirm the SSD has at least the listed 60 GB available.
- Open Xbox, verify the subscription account, and install a fresh copy from the library.
- Launch from Xbox after installation completes.
Do not manually delete protected Xbox or WindowsApps folders as a first-line fix. Unmanaged deletion can leave the app believing that files are present while the service cannot repair or replace them.
Use symptom-specific checks after installation
Play button does nothing
- Confirm Windows is 22H2 or newer and restart after all updates.
- Repair Xbox and Microsoft Store, then run the Gaming Services repair workflow.
- Launch from the Xbox library rather than an old shortcut.
- If it still does nothing on hardware that meets the minimum, reinstall once and capture the resulting error or event details for support.
The game opens and closes immediately
- Compare the CPU, 16 GB memory, GPU, DirectX 12, SSD, and 60 GB requirements with the table above.
- Check that the install is on an SSD and that the drive still has space.
- Repair Gaming Services and retry from Xbox.
- If the behavior persists, record whether a window appears, how long it remains open, and any message shown; these details distinguish a launch dependency failure from a hardware shortfall.
Install button returns after a partial download
- Check the destination SSD’s free space and ensure the drive is available to Windows.
- Update Windows, Microsoft Store, and Xbox.
- Run Gaming Services repair and restart.
- Retry from the Xbox library. If the loop continues, uninstall the partial copy through Xbox and perform one clean reinstall.
Escalate with useful evidence
If the documented sequence does not resolve the problem, contact Xbox Support and the game developer’s support channel with a concise record. The available support material does not provide a Valor Mortis-specific error-code matrix, so an exact error and system context are more useful than trying random registry edits or deleting service files.
- Exact on-screen error text or numeric code
- Windows edition, build, and whether it is version 22H2 or newer
- Xbox PC app and Microsoft Store update status
- Game Pass tier, Microsoft account region, and whether Valor Mortis appears in the catalog
- CPU, GPU, installed RAM, DirectX version, and install-drive type
- Free space on the selected SSD
- Whether the failure occurs during entitlement check, download, installation, or launch
- Which steps completed successfully: updates, Repair, Reset, Gaming Services repair, and reinstall
This evidence lets support separate a catalog or account issue from a local service or hardware issue and avoids repeating steps that have already succeeded.
