If the Cult of the Lamb Switch 2 upgrade is missing, check the original Switch game’s update, your Nintendo Account entitlement, the upgrade’s release status, and whether its virtual game card is loaded. Nintendo requires the base Switch software to be updated in addition to the upgrade pack. After downloading or loading the entitlement, restart the console and confirm that the title screen says “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.”
The exact price, release date, regional availability, and whether a particular account receives the upgrade at no charge can vary. The current Cult of the Lamb regional listing and release state were not established in the available official results, so use the eShop listing on your console as the authority for those details.
What has to be true before the Switch 2 Edition can appear
A Switch 2 upgrade is not just a single download. The console, the original Switch version of the game, and the upgrade entitlement each have to be in a usable state. Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance says: “An update to the Nintendo Switch version of the software, in addition to the upgrade pack, is required to access the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game.”
That requirement explains why an upgrade can look absent even when you own the game. An outdated base installation can prevent the Switch 2 features from being recognized. A purchase can also be attached to a different Nintendo Account, remain in preorder status, or be present as a virtual game card that has not been loaded on the console you are using.

Use the checks below in order. They separate an update problem from an account problem, a release-status problem, and a delivery problem instead of repeatedly searching the same eShop page.
Identify your ownership and delivery path first
The correct download route depends on how you obtained the game and upgrade. Before changing anything, determine which row describes your situation.

Do not assume that seeing the game icon, seeing a download option, or having the original Switch cartridge proves that the Switch 2 upgrade entitlement is active. The eShop’s ownership label is the decisive account check.

Step 1: Update the Switch 2 system software
Start with the console because the upgrade cannot be evaluated reliably while system software is outdated.
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose System Update.
- Allow the console to check for and install the available update. Keep the console connected to the internet and powered on until the process completes.
Return to the HOME Menu after the update. If the console reports that it is already current, continue to the game update rather than repeating the system check.
Step 2: Update the original Switch version of Cult of the Lamb
Nintendo specifically requires an update to the original Nintendo Switch software in addition to the upgrade pack. This is a separate check from updating the console itself.

- Highlight Cult of the Lamb on the HOME Menu without launching it.
- Press the + or − button on the controller.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet and let the update finish.
If the title starts normally but the Switch 2 Edition label is still absent, close the game and perform this check anyway. The relevant update is applied to the base Switch software; downloading an upgrade pack alone does not satisfy Nintendo’s stated requirement.

Open the Cult of the Lamb page in the eShop while signed in to the Nintendo Account that purchased the game or upgrade. Examine the action label rather than relying on the game icon in your HOME Menu.
When the page says “Purchased”
Purchased indicates that the signed-in account has the matching entitlement. Proceed to the virtual game card and redownload checks below. The entitlement may exist even when the upgrade is not currently loaded on this particular Switch 2.
When the page shows a price or “Proceed to Purchase”
A price or Proceed to Purchase means the account currently being used has no matching entitlement for that listing. Check for another Nintendo Account on the console—the account that originally bought the game or upgrade must be the one viewing the listing. Do not pay again until you have resolved the account mismatch.
When the page has a green “Preorder” label
A green Preorder label and an estimated release date mean the upgrade is not playable yet. Downloaded data does not change that state. The pack becomes usable only after Nintendo releases it; use the date displayed in your regional eShop listing rather than assuming that another region’s date applies.
Step 4: Load the virtual game card on this Switch 2
A purchased game or DLC can be owned but unavailable if its virtual game card is not loaded on the Switch 2 you are using. Loading the card makes the entitlement available to that console.

- From the HOME Menu, open Virtual Game Cards.
- Select the relevant Cult of the Lamb game or DLC entry.
- Choose Load on This System.
- Wait for the loading process to complete, then return to the HOME Menu.
For a physical copy, insert the game card before checking the title. The console must recognize the base game, while any separately delivered upgrade still has to be associated with the correct account and loaded if Nintendo presents it as a virtual game card.
If the entry is owned but does not appear in Virtual Game Cards, return to the eShop account check. That combination usually points to the wrong Nintendo Account, an entitlement that has not been delivered to this console, or a pack that has not yet released.
Step 5: Download through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, if that is your access path
Members of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack use a different eShop route for eligible upgrade packs. Do not look only at the ordinary Cult of the Lamb product page.
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet.
- Open Nintendo eShop.
- Select Nintendo Switch Online.
- Scroll to the eligible upgrade pack.
- Select Download.
Use the Nintendo Account that holds the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. After the download completes, ensure that the original Switch version is updated as described earlier; the membership download does not replace that required software update.
Step 6: Redownload the upgrade when ownership is correct but delivery is incomplete
If the eShop says Purchased, the pack is released, and the virtual card is loaded, redownload the DLC using Nintendo’s redownload path for the title. This refreshes the local installation without changing the ownership record.
Redownloading is appropriate when the listing recognizes ownership but the upgrade does not appear in the software, when a download was interrupted, or when the console was changed after the purchase. Keep the console online until the redownload finishes, then continue to the restart step. Do not delete save data as part of this check; the supported sequence is to update, verify the entitlement, load or redownload the content, and restart.

Step 7: Restart and verify the edition on the title screen
Restarting clears a stale software or entitlement state after the update and download have completed.

- Select Power Options.
- Choose Restart.
- After the HOME Menu returns, launch Cult of the Lamb.
- Check the title screen for the exact wording Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The title-screen wording is the final practical check. A successful download that still leaves the title screen on the original edition indicates that one of the earlier conditions—base-game update, release status, account ownership, virtual card loading, or DLC delivery—has not been satisfied.

Special cases that commonly look like a missing upgrade
A purchase was made by another account
On a family console, the account that plays the game is not always the account that purchased it. The eShop’s Purchased label applies to the account currently browsing, not automatically to every profile on the Switch 2. Sign in with the purchasing account before deciding that the upgrade is absent.
The upgrade was downloaded before its release
Preload or preorder data can be stored on the console while the pack remains locked. A green Preorder label and estimated release date are the indicators that this is a release-state issue, not a failed download. The pack cannot be used until Nintendo changes its status to released.
The console was changed after purchase
Entitlements do not necessarily become immediately active on every Switch 2. Check Virtual Game Cards and load the Cult of the Lamb game or DLC on the system where you intend to play. A successful purchase record without a loaded card is enough to make the upgrade appear missing.
The game is physical but the upgrade is digital
The cartridge supplies the base game, while the upgrade entitlement is handled separately. Insert the cartridge so the base software is recognized, update that software, then use the purchasing account to confirm the upgrade and load or download its virtual card. Treat the cartridge and the upgrade as two connected but distinct checks.

What not to buy or change as a first fix
Nintendo’s supported remedies for this symptom are software, account, entitlement, download, and restart actions. A replacement console, storage card, dock, cable, or second copy of the game does not address an outdated base-game update, an account mismatch, an unreleased pack, or an unloaded virtual game card. Complete the checks above before spending money or changing hardware.
When to contact support
If the system and base game are current, the correct account shows Purchased, the pack is released, the virtual game card is loaded, the DLC has been redownloaded, and a restart still leaves the title screen without “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition,” move to Nintendo’s title-specific Unable to Access DLC support article. Nintendo recommends that route for unresolved DLC access problems.
For a game not published by Nintendo, Nintendo’s guidance is to contact the publisher after completing Nintendo’s checks. Cult of the Lamb’s publisher should therefore handle a persistent entitlement or content-delivery problem once the console, account, release, and download conditions have all been verified.
How to verify regional release and pricing safely
Do not rely on a release date, price, or “free upgrade” statement from another country’s store. Open the Cult of the Lamb listing in the eShop region attached to your Nintendo Account and record exactly what it shows: Purchased, a price, Proceed to Purchase, Preorder, or Download. The available official search results do not establish the current regional listing or release state for Cult of the Lamb, so the live listing is the appropriate source for your console.
If the listing does not show an ownership or download option after you select the correct account, capture the displayed status and provide it to support. That information distinguishes an account entitlement issue from a technical installation failure.
