Most SHIFU: Traffic Masters problems on PC can be isolated by checking the published hardware baseline, lowering demanding video settings, removing background and overlay conflicts, updating Windows and drivers, and testing the controller through one input path at a time. The Steam listing marks the game as having “Full Controller Support,” but that does not guarantee that every Bluetooth adapter, remapping utility, overlay, or controller profile will work together.

If the PC is below the minimum processor, graphics, memory, operating-system, or DirectX requirement, lowering a few settings may not remove hitching. Hardware or an operating-system upgrade may be necessary. A drive that is nearly full can also make loading and swapping behavior worse, so treat the storage figure as available free space, not merely the disk’s total capacity.
Recommended specifications provide more headroom than the minimums. A system with 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060-class GPU is less likely to be constrained by memory or graphics load than one that only meets 8 GB and a GTX 1050, but even a recommended PC can stutter when another application is consuming resources or a driver is unstable. Check the exact GPU model and dedicated video memory rather than assuming that any card with a similar name is equivalent.
2. Establish a repeatable test scene
Choose one location or activity where the hitch is easy to notice. Use the same resolution, display mode, graphics preset, and controller connection for every run. Play or replay that scene for several minutes after each change. This does not prove that SHIFU has a specific stutter bug; it gives you a consistent way to tell whether a change helped.
Write down the initial settings and whether the problem is a steady low frame rate, a brief hitch when entering an area, or a pause that coincides with disk activity. Those symptoms can have different causes. Do not compare one test at a busy scene with another at a menu or quiet location.
3. Lower the settings that cost the most
- Open the game’s video or graphics options.
- Lower the output resolution or render scale if available.
- Reduce expensive effects such as shadows, reflections, post-processing, and view-distance quality.
- Apply the change and restart the game if it requests a restart.
- Retest the same scene before changing another option.
Steam’s performance guidance recommends manually modifying video options because the best balance depends on the individual machine. Begin with the lowest-cost diagnostic change rather than immediately setting every option to its minimum; preserving a few visual settings makes it easier to identify which setting is responsible. If lowering resolution makes no difference, the bottleneck may be the CPU, memory, disk, or another process rather than the GPU.
4. Remove background contention
Close browser tabs, launchers, recording software, RGB utilities, hardware monitors, and other applications you do not need for the test. Steam specifically advises removing unnecessary startup programs and stopping unnecessary applications through Task Manager. Overlays from the game launcher, chat clients, capture tools, or graphics software can also add another variable. Disable one overlay at a time so you know which change affected the result.
Do not end an unknown Windows process simply because it uses CPU or memory. Close applications you recognize, note what you changed, and restore settings if another program depends on them. A clean test does not require permanently uninstalling software; it only requires temporarily removing variables and then confirming the result.

5. Update the software stack
Install current Windows updates and the latest stable graphics driver for your GPU. Also check motherboard or system-vendor updates for the CPU chipset and audio device. Steam lists outdated CPU, GPU, and audio drivers as possible contributors to reduced FPS. Reboot after driver or Windows installation before testing again; otherwise the old driver may still be active.
Update the Steam client as well. Avoid judging performance immediately during an installation or while another launcher is downloading, because disk and network activity can obscure the result. If a new driver changes the behavior, record its version so you can include it in a support report.
6. Check RAM and disk activity
Open Task Manager while reproducing the hitch and watch memory, disk, CPU, and GPU utilization. If memory is close to full, close the largest applications first. Steam notes that insufficient RAM can force disk swapping, which can appear as sudden pauses or severe FPS drops. If disk activity spikes when the hitch occurs, leave more free space and stop applications that are indexing, synchronizing, downloading, or recording in the background.
The game’s listed storage requirement is 2 GB minimum and 4 GB recommended. That is the space the installation needs, not a guarantee that a nearly full drive will perform well. Keep enough additional free space for Windows temporary files and normal game activity, and test again after large downloads or synchronization jobs finish.

7. Interpret the result instead of changing everything
- Performance improves after lowering resolution or effects: keep the reduced option and raise settings one at a time until you find the useful compromise.
- Performance improves after closing programs: identify the recurring background or overlay conflict and prevent only that program from starting with the game.
- Performance improves after freeing memory or stopping disk activity: repeat the test with the same applications closed to confirm that swapping or storage contention was involved.
- Performance remains poor even at conservative settings: compare the PC with the minimum requirements again, especially RAM, GPU model, DirectX support, and free storage.
- Only one scene hitches: repeat the test in another area before concluding that the whole game is affected.
These outcomes are diagnostic clues, not confirmation of a developer-documented SHIFU-specific stutter defect. There is no published performance number that can guarantee a particular result on every PC.
Why does SHIFU: Traffic Masters keep crashing?
Use a clean, incremental crash triage. First verify that the computer meets the minimum requirements and that Windows, the graphics driver, and the Steam client are current. Then remove possible interference one variable at a time. Re-enable items after the test so you do not leave security software or normal protection disabled unnecessarily.

If a controller remapper is installed, test once with it closed and the physical controller connected directly. This separates a game crash from a virtual-input conflict. If the crash disappears, reintroduce the remapper only after confirming that the unmodified setup is stable.

A crash that occurs only with an overlay, overclock, or virtual controller enabled points toward an interaction that support can investigate, not necessarily a universal game failure.
Record a repeatable crash
Before contacting support, write down exactly when the failure occurs: during launch, loading, a particular scene, a settings change, or a controller connection. Record the graphics settings, connected peripherals, Windows version, GPU and driver version, and the exact error text. A short sequence such as “launch, select a profile, start a mission, crash during loading” is more useful than “it crashes randomly.”
Do not claim that a missing crash log proves there is no diagnostic data. The official pages available for this title simply do not document a standard log location. 1. Confirm that Windows sees the device
- Connect the controller before launching the game.
- Press
Win+R, enterjoy.cpl, and open the Windows game-controller test panel. - Select the controller, choose its properties, and verify that buttons and axes respond.
If the device does not appear or the test panel shows no movement, the problem is outside the game. Try a different USB port and cable for a wired device. For Bluetooth, remove the controller from Windows Bluetooth settings, pair it again, and resolve any pairing error before opening Steam.
Keep the connection method consistent during comparison. Testing one run over Bluetooth and another through USB while also changing Steam Input makes it impossible to identify which change mattered.

2. Test Steam Input and native input separately
Steam can translate a controller through Steam Input, while the game may also accept its native input path. Do not test both remapping layers simultaneously.
- Close the game.
- In Steam, open the game’s properties and controller settings.
- Choose one path—Steam Input enabled or the game’s native input path—and launch the game.
- Test every button and stick in the same menu or scene.
- If nothing responds, close the game and switch to the other path for a second test.
Testing one path at a time prevents two translators from assigning different meanings to the same button. If one path works and the other does not, use the working path while reporting the other configuration to support.
3. Remove virtual-controller and profile conflicts
Close DS4Windows, reWASD, and other virtual-controller or remapping utilities while testing. Also close overlays that inject controller menus. If the game recognizes inputs but buttons are wrong, reset the Steam Input layout and remove duplicate controller profiles before trying again.
A duplicate profile can make a controller appear detected while assigning unexpected actions. Reset the active layout rather than stacking another profile on top of it. Reconnect the device after changing the layout so Steam refreshes the controller state.
4. Separate hardware from configuration
- Wired controller fails: try another USB port and a known-good cable, then retest in
joy.cpl. - Bluetooth controller fails: remove and re-pair it, then test with the controller close to the PC and with other unnecessary Bluetooth devices disconnected.
- Windows test works but the game does not: switch between Steam Input and native input, with remappers closed.
- Buttons are detected but mapped incorrectly: reset the active layout and remove duplicate profiles.
- A second controller works: the original device, cable, Bluetooth connection, or remapping configuration is more likely at fault than a universal game failure.
Reconnect the controller before each launch during testing. Starting the game first and attaching the device later can produce a different detection result, so keep the launch order consistent.
