Shadow Rush Demo is a Windows-only Steam demo, so start by treating a failure as a platform, file-integrity, driver, or software-interference problem. Restart Windows and Steam, check the published hardware and operating-system requirements, update Windows and your graphics driver, verify the demo files, and close overlays before trying deeper changes. For a black screen, also test display settings, remove Compatibility Mode, and update DirectX. The demo is Steam app 4366540, released June 12, 2026, and its Windows executable is LAUNCH.exe.
What Shadow Rush Demo supports
Shadow Rush Demo is a free Windows Steam demo by Andrew Teo. SteamDB identifies it as app 4366540, released June 12, 2026. The full game is described on Steam as an isometric hack-and-slash action RPG with roguelike elements. The demo is listed for Windows; SteamDB marks Steam Deck compatibility as unknown. Do not assume native Linux, SteamOS, or Steam Deck support simply because the game is distributed through Steam.
The minimum specifications below are a compatibility floor, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, resolution, loading time, or stability level.

Steam Support notes that games may fail for many reasons because every PC combines different hardware, drivers, Windows builds, and background software. Meeting the minimum list therefore rules out some incompatibilities but does not prove that every launch configuration will work.

Use this order before changing advanced settings
The sequence below starts with reversible, game-specific actions and moves toward system-wide changes. After each step, launch the demo from Steam and note whether the symptom changes. Stop when the problem is fixed; changing several variables at once makes the cause harder to identify.
- Restart Windows. Choose Start > Power > Restart, wait for the desktop to return, and then open Steam. This clears a stuck driver or process without deleting game data.
- Restart Steam completely. In Steam, select Steam > Exit, confirm that Steam is no longer running in the notification area, and start it again. Do not rely only on closing the main window if the client remains active.
- Check the requirements. Compare the computer with the table above, including 64-bit Windows, SSE2 support, the active GPU, DirectX, RAM, and free storage. On a laptop, connect the charger and make sure Windows is not forcing the integrated GPU for the demo.
- Install Windows updates. Open Settings > Windows Update (or Update & Security on older Windows versions), install pending updates, restart, and test again. Steam’s launch guidance specifically recommends current Windows and drivers.
- Update the active graphics driver. Get the driver for the actual Nvidia or other installed GPU from the hardware maker, install it, restart Windows, and test. If the PC has more than one adapter, update the adapter listed in Device Manager > Display adapters and confirm which one is connected to the display.
- Verify the demo files. In Steam, open Library, right-click Shadow Rush Demo, choose Properties, select Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the process to finish before pressing Play. Steam says corruption in extracted files is a common reason a game will not launch; verification replaces damaged or missing files while preserving your installation.
- Close interfering software. Exit overlays, capture utilities, hardware monitors, RGB controllers, aggressive antivirus interfaces, and other non-essential tools. Disable only one category at a time if possible, then retest. Steam warns that software interfering with the client or game can block launch.
- Review security software. If the executable is being quarantined or blocked, inspect the security product’s detection history. Only when the file is trusted and the block is clearly a false positive should you add a narrowly scoped exclusion for the demo executable or Steam library folder. Re-enable protection and remove the exclusion if it does not help.
Fixes for a crash immediately after clicking Play
Confirm that Steam is launching the intended executable
The Windows executable identified for the demo is LAUNCH.exe. Start the demo through the Steam Library rather than double-clicking an old shortcut or a copied executable. If a shortcut points to a moved library, remove it and create a new shortcut from the current Steam installation.
Check for a blocked or quarantined file
Open your security software’s quarantine or protection history and look for an event at the time of the failed launch. A false positive can prevent an executable from starting. Capcom’s official Steam troubleshooting guidance describes this class of problem and recommends appropriate exclusions when security software incorrectly blocks a game. Apply an exclusion only to the verified game location, never to the entire system, and restore normal protection after testing.

Remove compatibility settings
Right-click the game executable or its shortcut, choose Properties, open the Compatibility tab, and clear Run this program in compatibility mode for if it is enabled. Also clear any forced administrator or reduced-color settings unless the developer specifically instructs otherwise. Compatibility shims intended for another Windows version can interfere with a modern Steam launch.
Rule out an incomplete update
In the demo’s Steam properties, check the Updates section and allow any pending download to finish. Then run Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files again. If verification repeatedly reacquires the same file, check the Steam library drive for free space and file-system errors before reinstalling.
Fixes for crashes during loading or before the first menu
Separate rendering failure from general process failure
Listen for audio and watch whether Steam changes the button from Play to Stop. If the process remains active and audio plays while no picture appears, use the black-screen branch below. If the process exits and Steam immediately returns to Play, prioritize file verification, driver updates, overlays, security software, and requirements.

Test with a clean background
Close screen recorders, chat overlays, frame-rate counters, GPU overclocking tools, motherboard utilities, and browser windows using hardware acceleration. Restart Steam after closing them so their injected modules are unloaded. Do not change several tuning profiles at once; record which program was disabled and whether the result changed.

On a desktop, make sure the monitor cable is connected to the intended graphics card. On a laptop, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the game executable if necessary, and test the available GPU preference. A wrong adapter can expose an outdated driver or insufficient feature support even when a faster GPU is installed.
Fixes for a black screen
A black screen can mean that the game process failed, that rendering started on an incompatible display mode, or that an overlay captured the window. Identify whether the Steam process continues and whether audio is audible before changing settings.

Reset the display path
- Press Alt+Tab to check whether the game opened on another desktop or monitor.
- Press Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B to reset the Windows graphics driver. The screen may flicker and Windows may play a notification sound.
- Disconnect extra monitors temporarily and test the primary display at its normal refresh rate.
- Turn off HDR or unusual scaling temporarily in Settings > System > Display, then launch again.
These tests change the display environment without modifying game files. Restore your normal monitor arrangement after identifying the setting that matters.
Disable Compatibility Mode and update DirectX
Open the executable’s Properties > Compatibility tab and disable Compatibility Mode if it is selected. Then install all available Windows updates so the supported DirectX components are current. Capcom’s published troubleshooting sequence includes display-setting checks, disabling Compatibility Mode, and updating DirectX for black-screen and launch symptoms.

Try a windowed presentation when the game exposes one
If the demo reaches a menu briefly, choose a standard resolution and windowed or borderless mode, apply it, and restart. If it never reaches a menu, do not invent launch parameters or edit configuration files from unverified guides; the authoritative material available for this demo does not document a specific command-line switch.

Eliminate overlay capture
Disable Steam Overlay for this title through Library > right-click Shadow Rush Demo > Properties > General > Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game. Also disable overlays supplied by GPU drivers, chat clients, and recording tools, then relaunch Steam. Re-enable each overlay individually after the demo works if you need to identify the conflicting one.

Windows 7
The Steam listing names Windows 7 as the minimum operating system, but Steam states that its client supports Windows 10 and later. A Windows 7 installation can therefore satisfy the game’s listing while still running an unsupported or malfunctioning Steam client. If the demo will not launch on Windows 7, first install every available update and confirm that Steam itself can update and sign in. Moving to a supported Windows version is the practical compatibility test; do not assume that a successful installation means the current Steam client will continue to support that operating system.
Linux and SteamOS
The available listing identifies Windows rather than a native Linux build. There is no established Linux-specific fix in the published material. Proton may or may not run an individual Windows game, but compatibility for this demo is not documented here, so treat any result as experimental rather than supported. If you need a reliable baseline, reproduce the issue on a supported Windows installation.

SteamDB lists the demo’s Deck compatibility as unknown. Unknown is not the same as Verified, Playable, or confirmed unsupported. You can try the default Proton configuration, but record the Proton version, SteamOS version, launch behavior, and whether audio continues so that a report is useful. Do not present an unverified Deck workaround as an official fix.

Collect useful details instead of guessing
If the sequence does not resolve the problem, record the exact conditions. A useful report distinguishes a repeatable game defect from a local configuration conflict.
- The exact error text, including any code or module name.
- Your Windows edition and version, and whether it is 64-bit.
- CPU model and confirmation of SSE2 support.
- GPU model, driver version, and whether the system has integrated and discrete graphics.
- Installed RAM and free space on the Steam library drive.
- Steam client version and whether the demo is installed on an internal or removable drive.
- Whether the failure happens before the first menu, during loading, or after changing display settings.
- Whether audio continues, whether the Steam process remains running, and whether the issue changes after file verification.
- Which overlays, capture tools, monitors, or security exclusions were disabled for the test.
Use the developer’s support channel linked from the game’s Steam page and include those details. Do not attach personal documents or permanently weaken security software just to obtain a log.
