Add block_cookie_banners=true to the ScreenshotOne request. Its documented default is false for URL captures, so the blocker may not be active unless you enable it explicitly. If that does not clear the popup, try the heuristic fallback or hide a known banner element with a CSS selector.

Enable ScreenshotOne’s cookie-banner blocker

For a GET request, include the option in the /take URL:

https://api.screenshotone.com/take?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&block_cookie_banners=true&access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY

Replace the example URL and placeholder key with your target and private API key. ScreenshotOne says this option blocks cookie banners, GDPR overlay windows, and related privacy notices. Its documented default is off for URL requests. ScreenshotOne API options documentation

ScreenshotOne also supports POST requests with JSON options. When using an SDK or POST request, set the equivalent block_cookie_banners option in the request body or builder, then verify it appears in the request actually sent. Keep access keys out of public code and shared logs. ScreenshotOne API documentation

If the popup remains: troubleshoot in order

  1. Check the final request. Confirm block_cookie_banners=true is present in the final query string or POST JSON. An option in local code will not help if the request builder omits it.
  2. Inspect the API response. If the request returns an error, check its HTTP status and JSON error object. ScreenshotOne documents a human-readable error message and error code for errors. ScreenshotOne API documentation
  3. Try the heuristic fallback. Add block_banners_by_heuristics=true if the regular blocker misses the page. ScreenshotOne describes this as a different set of techniques for banners the regular option does not catch, and warns the resulting screenshot may be less precise. ScreenshotOne API options documentation
  4. Hide a known banner element. If you can identify a stable CSS selector for the specific popup, pass it through hide_selectors. ScreenshotOne applies display:none!important to matching elements before capture. This is more targeted, but it does not register a consent choice.
  5. Use custom JavaScript only for a known page structure. ScreenshotOne documents a scripts option for injected JavaScript. Use it only when you know the page’s DOM and when the relevant element appears; avoid broad selectors or code that could hide unrelated page content. ScreenshotOne API options documentation

Choose the fix that matches the failure

Approach Best for Trade-off
block_cookie_banners=true First attempt for common cookie and privacy overlays. Broad automatic handling; the documented default is off.
block_banners_by_heuristics=true A page the standard blocker misses. Screenshot precision may be affected.
hide_selectors A known, stable selector for one site’s banner. Targeted visual hiding; does not establish that consent was recorded.
scripts A page-specific adjustment when you know its DOM and load behavior. Requires careful site-specific code; broad scripts can hide unrelated content.

What removing the popup does—and does not—mean

Blocking or hiding a dialog changes what appears in the generated screenshot. It is not evidence that a visitor accepted or rejected cookies, that the site saved a consent cookie, or that any consent requirement was fulfilled. Treat these options as capture controls, not as a substitute for a real consent interaction.

Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo

ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Before capture it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients. See ScreenshotNeo for the service details.

Example GET request (replace the target URL and keep your key private):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp

For request options and the API details, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. ScreenshotNeo includes 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up free for ScreenshotNeo.

When to ask for help

If the popup still appears, gather the target URL if it is shareable, the request with access keys and other secrets redacted, the SDK or language you used, and the returned status and error details. Those details help distinguish an omitted option from a banner the blocker does not recognize, an incorrect selector, or a request-construction problem.
