A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To stop animation-related screenshot mismatches, first wait until the page has reached the expected state, then suppress motion during capture if your test framework supports it. Keep the browser and rendering environment consistent, and mask only small areas that cannot be stabilized. A capture taken mid-render, mid-load, or mid-animation can show a transient state rather than a real visual regression.
1. Confirm the page is ready before capturing
Start by proving that the intended UI state has rendered. Assert that the relevant text, element, or state is present, and wait for the data request or fixture that supplies it to finish. Prefer those checks to an arbitrary sleep: a fixed delay can be too short on a slow run and waste time on a fast one.
Cypress advises taking a snapshot only after confirming that the page is done changing. See Cypress visual testing guidance. If content comes from an API and may vary between runs, stub or fixture the response where appropriate, then assert on the resulting content.
2. Disable animations at screenshot time
Cypress
For a Cypress screenshot, use the screenshot-specific disableTimersAndAnimations option. The documented option prevents JavaScript timers such as setTimeout and setInterval, as well as CSS animations, while the screenshot is taken. Check the current cy.screenshot() API documentation for the option’s supported scope and defaults.

cy.get('[data-testid="results"]').should('be.visible');
cy.screenshot('results', { disableTimersAndAnimations: true });
Use this only after the test has established the state it needs to capture. Stopping timers can affect timer-driven page behavior; if a timer advances the interface to the desired state, wait for or assert that state before taking the screenshot.
Do not confuse action waits with screenshot suppression
Cypress’s waitForAnimations and animationDistanceThreshold settings govern action commands such as clicks. They help Cypress wait for an element to stop moving before interacting with it; they do not freeze unrelated animations across the page for a later screenshot. Configure screenshot capture separately when that is the problem. Cypress explains this distinction in its visual testing guide.
Playwright Test
Playwright Test uses expect(page).toHaveScreenshot() for visual comparisons. Its documentation describes taking multiple screenshots until two consecutive captures match, then saving the last capture. This can help avoid recording a transient frame, but it is not a substitute for making test data and the expected UI state deterministic. Check the Playwright visual comparisons documentation for the installed version’s current options and behavior.
import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('results page matches its visual reference', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('/results');
await expect(page.getByTestId('results')).toBeVisible();
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('results.png');
});
The example waits for the target UI to appear before comparison. If the page depends on changing data, make the response stable in the test as well. Do not assume that Cypress screenshot options and Playwright screenshot options have identical semantics.

3. Make both sides of the comparison render alike
Even a stable page can differ at the pixel level if the baseline and current run use different rendering conditions. Keep these inputs consistent:
- Browser and browser version
- Operating system
- Viewport size and display scaling
- Available fonts
- API responses and other data that changes over time
Cypress identifies these as sources of rendering variation in its visual testing guidance. If a mismatch remains after motion is controlled, check these environment and data inputs before changing comparison tolerances.

4. Isolate unavoidable dynamic content
Some regions are inherently unstable, such as third-party media or a widget outside your control. Prefer hiding or masking the smallest practical region, or compare the specific component relevant to the change instead of a full page. A broad tolerance can conceal real regressions elsewhere; a narrow mask keeps the rest of the page meaningful. Cypress discusses these approaches in its visual testing guide.
5. Inspect a diff before updating the baseline
A changed screenshot may represent intended design work or a genuine regression. Review the changed region and the test’s expected state before accepting a new reference image. Updating a baseline without that review can make an accidental change appear normal. Playwright documents screenshot comparisons and reference updates in its visual comparisons guide.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean screenshot through an API rather than configuring a browser capture yourself, ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot with one GET request. For example, using cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup and options. It accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server includes tools for AI agents to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting persistent mismatches
- The diff changes between runs: Check whether capture happens during loading or animation, and whether API data or third-party content changes. Wait for an asserted state and stabilize the response.
- A Cypress click waits, but the screenshot still differs: Action-command animation waits do not suppress unrelated motion during screenshots. Use the screenshot-specific option documented for
cy.screenshot(). - The page stops advancing after suppression is enabled: The capture option also stops JavaScript timers during the screenshot. Establish the required state first, or test whether a narrower stabilization method is appropriate for your case.
- The mismatch remains after motion is disabled: Compare browser version, operating system, viewport, scaling, fonts, and fixture data between baseline and current runs.
- A third-party region keeps changing: Hide or mask only that region, or target a smaller component for comparison rather than relaxing the whole-page check.
- You are unsure whether to accept a new image: Inspect the diff and decide whether the change is intentional before updating the reference.
