How do I stop Samsung notifications from interrupting me?
Start with the broadest control that fits the problem. Do not disturb can mute sounds and notifications while allowing exceptions; app and category settings are better when only a specific alert is disruptive. Samsung’s US Do not disturb guide describes controls for calls and messages, app notifications, alarms and sounds, and schedules.
- Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. Check whether Do not disturb is on. If the labels differ, use Settings search for “Do not disturb” or follow the equivalent labels on your software version.
- Choose the calls, messages, apps, alarms, and sounds that should be allowed through. Review these options before relying on a quiet period so an alert you need is not muted.
- For a recurring quiet period, open the Do not disturb schedule controls, add a schedule, and enable it. Samsung’s Hong Kong instructions cover schedules and exceptions for selected contacts, repeat callers, apps, alarms, and sounds; they note that settings can vary by model, software version, and purchase region. - Test an important exception, such as a call from a selected contact, to make sure it behaves as expected.

How do I silence notifications at work but allow calls?
Set Do not disturb to allow the calls or messages that matter, then use a schedule for recurring work hours if that suits your routine. Depending on your Galaxy’s options, you may be able to allow selected contacts or repeat callers. Do not assume every call will get through just because Do not disturb is scheduled; check the exceptions and test them.
If your work location is a reliable trigger, you can also inspect Settings > Modes and Routines for an automation that silences notifications on arrival. How do I stop one app or one type of alert?
If most alerts are useful and only one app or feature is interrupting you, adjust that app instead of silencing everything.
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications and select the app. The exact label or route may vary.
- Change the app’s notification controls to reduce or turn off the unwanted alerts.
- If the app lists notification categories, open them and adjust only the category causing interruptions. Categories can separate functions within an app, so you may be able to keep other alerts enabled. Samsung explains these controls in its notification categories guide.
How do I reduce pop-ups or hide lock-screen content?
If alerts should still arrive but should not take over the screen or reveal details, change their presentation rather than muting them. Samsung’s One UI 8 notification instructions, updated April 19, 2026, document per-app pop-up style and per-app lock-screen content controls. On One UI 8, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, choose an app, and adjust the relevant pop-up or lock-screen option. You can also hide lock-screen notification content more broadly from Notifications settings. Older or different builds may use different labels or offer different controls.

Why am I not getting notifications on my Galaxy?
First distinguish missing alerts from interruptions: Do not disturb may be suppressing an alert, an app or category may have notifications disabled, or the alert may arrive without sound. Check these in order:
- Do not disturb: Check whether it is active and whether the app or contact is allowed through. The Samsung US guide describes its exceptions.
- App and category settings: Under Settings > Notifications > App notifications, confirm notifications are enabled for the affected app and relevant category. Category controls may be separate from the app’s main notification control; see Samsung’s category guidance.
- Sound settings: If the notification appears but is silent, check the app’s notification sound and the phone’s sound mode. Samsung’s Canada sound and notification guide covers these settings.
- Power saving and Deep sleeping: Samsung recommends checking Power saving and Do not disturb for missing notifications in its Secure Folder troubleshooting guidance. Keep that advice in scope: it is documented for the Secure Folder case, not as a universal explanation for every app. See Samsung’s Secure Folder troubleshooting page. Samsung Canada’s sound and notification guide also identifies Deep sleeping app status as a check when notifications are not showing.
What if the settings do not match my phone?
Samsung says menu names, steps, and available settings can differ by model and software version; the Hong Kong Do not disturb guide also calls out purchase-region variation. Use Settings search for terms such as “Do not disturb,” “App notifications,” or “Modes and Routines,” then follow the closest available control. For region-specific guidance, consult Samsung support for your location.
