If a recipe stays locked in The Witch’s Bakery, first determine whether you have missed its normal progression trigger or are using an incompatible demo save. Buying recipe books while exploring Paris is a documented way to obtain additional recipes, but not every recipe’s exact condition has been verified. Identify what “locked” means before changing anything

- Unavailable or hidden recipe: The game has not awarded the recipe yet. A book, quest, customer event, chapter, station, or another condition may still be outstanding.
- Visible but locked recipe: The recipe entry exists, but the required trigger has not registered, or the save has reached an incompatible state.
- Unlocked but unusable recipe: The recipe may be available while you lack an ingredient, station, or other preparation requirement. That is different from an unlock failure.
- Unlocked but low-level recipe: Unlocking, preparing a recipe, and maximizing its level are separate objectives. Making a dish once does not necessarily complete its level progression.
Write down the exact recipe name, the chapter or day when you noticed the problem, and what the menu shows. This record prevents you from repeating a trigger that has already been completed and gives support enough detail to investigate the correct save state.

- Look for shops or encounters where recipe books can be purchased.
- Buy the book associated with the recipe you are pursuing, when it is offered.
- Return to the recipe menu and check whether the entry has changed from locked to available.
- If the recipe appears, distinguish the unlock from actually preparing it and from raising its level to the maximum.
If no book is available, do not assume that the recipe is defective. The book may be tied to a different point in progression, or that particular recipe may use another condition. The current documentation does not verify individual conditions for every recipe.
Check likely prerequisites without guessing a universal rule
Before resetting a save, confirm the normal progression items that could apply to the recipe you want. The documented diagnostic list includes the following possibilities:
- A specific recipe book has been bought.
- A quest has been completed.
- A customer event has occurred.
- The required chapter or story point has been reached.
- A cooking station or other facility is available.
- Another prerequisite shown by the game has been fulfilled.
Use the game’s own objectives and dialogue as your checklist. Do not invent a requirement based on another recipe: the available sources do not prove that all recipes share one unlock condition. If the game provides no explanation, capture a screenshot of the locked entry and continue with the save-compatibility check below.

How to recognize the demo-save case
Sunny Lab’s official Steam announcement dated October 14, 2026 explains that release builds detect saves created in the demo but can still show a misleading Continue button. Demo and release saves are incompatible; continuing with the old file can leave progression stuck later, which may include recipes that never register as unlocked.
This is the first recovery path when the recipe issue began immediately after moving from the demo to the full release, or when a release installation opened an old demo run automatically.

Start a compatible release save
- Open Steam and locate The Witch’s Bakery in your library.
- Open the game’s Properties.
- Select Game Versions & Betas.
- Choose Default Public Version as the branch.
- Close the properties window and fully quit the game if it is running.
- Launch the game again and choose New Game, not Continue on the old demo file.
- Play until the recipe system is available, then test the documented recipe-book route or the prerequisite you recorded.
Changing branches without starting a new game is not enough. The developer’s instruction is explicit: “You should start a new game, since saves are incompatible and the game will get stuck at some point if you continue with your old save.”
Protect evidence before abandoning the old run
Starting over can cost progress. Before deleting, overwriting, or ignoring the old save, preserve screenshots of the locked recipe, your chapter and objectives, and the Steam branch currently selected. Keep the old files as a backup if you may need to report the problem. Do not copy the incompatible demo file into the new release save folder and expect it to become valid.

Relaunch and retest in a controlled order
After selecting the default branch and creating a new game, use a clean retest rather than changing several variables at once.
- Exit to the desktop so the game process closes completely.
- Start Steam and verify that the game still shows Default Public Version under Properties > Game Versions & Betas.
- Launch the new save and reach the point where the recipe menu is available.
- Complete one clearly documented action, such as buying a recipe book while exploring Paris.
- Open the recipe menu and record the result.
- If it remains locked, close and relaunch once more before concluding that the trigger failed to register.
This sequence separates a branch or stale-session problem from an ordinary missing prerequisite. If the recipe unlocks in the new save, the old demo save—not the recipe book route—was the source of the progression failure.
Do not apply the Estelle save edit to recipes
What the documented lock actually affects
Sunny Lab also describes a separate progression lock involving Estelle. It can occur after her second heart when the bottom dialogue branch is chosen in the theater scene. The announcement identifies this as an Estelle relationship issue, not as a universal recipe bug.

The official workaround is narrowly scoped. It unlocks Estelle’s second heart but skips the theater scene, and the announcement says the issue was fixed in the next version. There is no confirmation that the same flag controls any recipe.
If you need the Estelle workaround
Only use this procedure for the documented Estelle lock, and make a copy first:
- Navigate to
C:Users<username>AppDataLocalLowSunny LabThe Witch's BakeryGameFilesSlot_0. - Duplicate
Save.lunnein the same folder and work on the duplicate. - Open the duplicate in a text editor.
- Find the UUID
effc1d56-d2a3-4fe5-bcb2-933781bdf8b5. - Change
relationshipLevelsLockedfromtruetofalse. - Save the edited copy, preserve the untouched original, and test only if the affected problem is the Estelle relationship lock.
Do not change this field to try to unlock a recipe. Editing an unrelated flag can damage the save without addressing the actual recipe condition.
Back up your save before any manual change
A backup is useful even when you do not plan to edit a file. It lets you restore the pre-test state and gives the developer a file to inspect if the problem persists.
- Close the game before copying files so that the save is not being written.
- Copy the entire
Slot_0folder, or at minimum the originalSave.lunne, to a separate location. - Use a dated folder name such as
bak-before-recipe-testso you know which copy is unchanged. - Never overwrite the only original with an edited or rolled-back file.
- If the game has more than one slot, back up the slot that contains the affected run and note its number.
The save path above is supplied for the documented Estelle workaround. If your installation uses a different Windows account or slot, do not guess at a path; use the location created by your game and retain the original files.

What to do when a fresh release save still has a locked recipe
If the recipe remains locked after a new game on Default Public Version, the current sources do not provide a universal console command, a complete unlock table, or a recipe-specific patch. Continue with evidence-based checks rather than trying random file edits.
- Confirm the exact recipe name and copy the menu wording.
- Check whether a recipe book was available and whether you bought it while exploring Paris.
- Review completed quests, customer events, chapter progress, and any station requirement associated with that part of the game.
- Verify that you are testing the release save, not a copied demo file.
- Quit and relaunch after the suspected trigger.
- Compare the result with a backed-up screenshot so you can tell whether the state changed.
If all of these checks pass and the entry remains locked, treat it as a possible progression bug and report it rather than modifying unrelated flags.
Report the failure through Steam Discussions
Sunny Lab’s documented support route is the official Steam Discussions channel. A useful report should let the developer reproduce the state without asking you to guess at hidden conditions.
- Operating system and hardware platform.
- Game version shown by Steam.
- Branch selected under Properties > Game Versions & Betas.
- Whether the save originated in the demo or was created after starting a new release game.
- Exact recipe name and the text or icon shown while it is locked.
- Prerequisites you completed, including a book purchase, quest, customer event, chapter, or station availability.
- The exact sequence of actions immediately before the lock appeared.
- Whether a full quit and relaunch changed the menu.
- Screenshots, and a backed-up save if the support request asks for one.
Do not label the issue as an Estelle relationship lock unless the theater-scene symptom is actually present. Separating the two cases helps the developer avoid applying a relationship workaround to a recipe state.

- Keep the release game on Default Public Version unless Sunny Lab instructs you to use another branch.
- When moving from a demo to a release, begin a new game instead of relying on Continue.
- Take a screenshot when a recipe first appears, when its book is purchased, and when its level changes.
- Record whether you are checking an unlock, a first preparation, or maximum level progress.
- Back up the active save before testing any workaround or changing a file.
- Use only a workaround that names the same symptom; do not transfer an unrelated relationship edit to recipes.
What is and is not established about recipe unlocks
The confirmed practical route is purchasing recipe books while exploring Paris. The demo-save incompatibility and the required new-game recovery are documented by Sunny Lab. The Estelle relationship edit is also documented, but it addresses a different lock. A complete recipe-by-recipe prerequisite list, universal command, and recipe-specific developer patch are not established in the available guidance. That boundary matters: it is safer to verify the in-game prerequisite and report a persistent clean-save failure than to invent a condition or edit an unrelated save flag.
