For PS4 input lag, first enable Game mode or your TV’s equivalent low-latency picture setting. For a “No signal” message, check the selected HDMI input and connections, then test the console directly on the TV. If the picture appears but resolution or HDR is wrong, check PS4 Pro and TV compatibility, the HDMI port’s enhanced-input setting, and the console’s video-output settings.
Fix PS4 controller response that feels delayed
Start with the TV: picture processing can add delay between a controller input and what appears on screen. Turn on Game mode for the HDMI input connected to the PS4, or enable the TV maker’s equivalent low-latency setting. The exact name and menu path depend on the TV model.
Sony’s instructions, for example, describe Game or “Content type: Game” settings on applicable models, but they are not universal instructions for every Sony TV. Consult your TV’s manual for its exact controls. Sony also notes that applications prioritising lip sync may behave differently from games. Sony’s model-specific guidance
Test the change in the same game and on the same HDMI input. This is a first diagnostic, not a guarantee that every delay originates in the TV. The available official guidance does not establish a universal PS4 input-lag fix or comparative latency measurements. A more expensive HDMI cable, disabling HDCP, or changing resolution is not an established general remedy for controller delay.

Fix a PS4 “No signal” message or blank TV screen
Work through the signal path before changing console video settings. The checks below begin with the simplest causes and progress to recovery options.
- Check power and input. Make sure the TV and PS4 are on, then select the exact HDMI input the console is plugged into.
- Reseat and test the cable. Unplug and firmly reconnect HDMI at both ends. Try another HDMI port on the TV and, if available, a known-good compatible cable. A replacement is useful for fault isolation if the existing cable may be damaged or unsuitable; it is not an input-lag upgrade. - Bypass intermediary devices. Connect the PS4 directly to the TV for testing, temporarily removing a receiver, sound bar, capture device, or HDMI switch from the signal path. If the direct connection works, reconnect the intermediary devices one at a time to identify where the signal is interrupted.
- Use Safe Mode’s Change Resolution option. If the screen remains blank, turn the PS4 off. Hold the power button until you hear the second beep, connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, and select Change Resolution. The PS4 restarts at 480p, which can restore a picture if the current display mode is one the TV cannot show. Once the picture returns, choose a resolution appropriate for your TV. - Check HDCP compatibility on PS4 Pro. If you have a PS4 Pro connected to a 4K TV, every device in the HDMI chain must support the HDCP version required for the output. If the chain cannot handle HDCP 2.2, setting HDCP 1.40 Only may restore the picture, but it can cap output at 1080p and restrict 4K or HDR playback. Fix PS4 picture resolution or 4K output problems
If a picture is visible but the resolution is lower than expected, check the display path as well as the console. 4K output is relevant to PS4 Pro; do not assume that every PS4 model or every game and video supports 4K.

- Confirm the PS4 Pro is connected to a TV HDMI port that supports the desired 4K signal. Some TVs reserve enhanced UHD or colour capability for particular ports or require it to be enabled in the TV’s settings; the label and menu path vary by brand.
- Use a compatible HDMI cable and connect the console directly to the TV while troubleshooting. A receiver or other intermediary must support the required signal and HDCP capability too.
- Check whether the game or video actually supports 4K. The console cannot add 4K support to content that does not offer it.
- If you changed HDCP to HDCP 1.40 Only while diagnosing a blank screen, return it to Automatic after checking the chain’s compatibility. The 1.40 setting can limit resolution and 4K/HDR playback.

HDR output depends on more than the console setting: the TV and HDMI input must support HDR, the content must support it, and the connection must carry the signal. PlayStation’s published guidance specifies an HDR10-capable 2K or 4K TV, a Premium HDMI cable, supported HDR content, and PS4 system software version 7.0 or later. Its instructions call for a direct connection from the console to the TV.

- Connect the PS4 directly to an HDR-capable TV input. Enable HDR or the TV’s enhanced input mode for that HDMI port if the TV requires it.
- On the PS4, open Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings.
- Set HDR to Automatic, then set Deep Color Output to Automatic.
- In Video Output Information, check whether the console reports the display as HDR-supported.
- Test with content that supports HDR. An HDR-capable TV and console setting alone do not make non-HDR content display in HDR.
