Start by identifying the emulator and the failure
PS2 and original Xbox games do not share one emulator path. Before changing files or console settings, note the project name and release, PS5 firmware, how the app was installed and launched, the game-image format, and exactly what happens.
- Not detected: The game does not appear in the emulator’s list.
- Detected but will not open: The title appears, but selecting it produces an error, exits the app, or returns to the home screen.
- Opens, then fails: The game starts but freezes, crashes, or stops working in-game. That is different from a launch failure and needs its own symptom-specific diagnosis.
Record the exact error text, if any. The reviewed project documentation does not provide a complete error-code troubleshooting matrix, so a specific firmware, payload, or permission fix cannot be recommended from the symptom alone.
For PS2 games, check PS5SX2 and the image format
PS5SX2’s project README describes it as a PCSX2-based emulator for jailbroken PS5 and lists ISO, CHD, CSO, and ZSO game images. Check the current README and the instructions for your installed release; project requirements can change.

- Confirm the project. Make sure you are using PS5SX2 and follow that release’s own installation and launch instructions. Do not substitute an xemu desktop setup guide.
- Check the file extension. If the image is not ISO, CHD, CSO, or ZSO, the README does not establish that the installed version supports it. Verify current project documentation before converting or altering the image.
- Check whether the game is detected. If it appears in the list, the file is at least being recognized by the app; that does not prove the game will run correctly. If it does not appear, report the format and where the project’s instructions say images should be placed rather than guessing a path.
- Interpret the displayed title cautiously. The README says titles are drawn from the serial in PCSX2’s game database, so an unexpected displayed name alone does not prove the image is corrupt.
- Use the exact symptom to seek a project-specific answer. Include the PS5 firmware, PS5SX2 release, image format, whether the title appears, what happens after selection, and the exact error text.
For original Xbox games, verify that the emulator actually targets PS5
The official xemu project documents desktop platforms—Windows, macOS, and Linux. The documentation reviewed here does not establish a supported xemu port for PS5. Therefore, a game failing on a jailbroken PS5 cannot be diagnosed by assuming desktop xemu instructions apply; no PS5-specific file locations, installation method, or repair are established by those sources.
If you are actually running xemu on a supported computer, its required-files documentation covers the MCPX boot ROM, flash ROM/BIOS, and hard-disk image needed for that desktop emulator. Those requirements are not evidence of a PS5 port or a fix for a PS5 setup.

What Sony’s standard game-start steps can—and cannot—tell you
PlayStation Support says its page covers what to do if a game does not start on PS5 or PS4. The listed general console checks include restarting, restoring licenses, reinstalling a game, checking system software, and using Safe Mode cache/database steps. See Sony’s game-launch troubleshooting page for the exact current instructions.
That guidance concerns PS5 and PS4 games, not homebrew emulator apps or locally loaded PS2/Xbox images. It may help rule out a general console issue, but it does not validate these steps as emulator fixes. License restoration is particularly unlikely to diagnose a locally loaded emulator image. Sony’s backward-compatibility information is about PS4 games on PS5, not PS2 or original Xbox emulation.

Avoid fixes that are not tied to your setup
Do not apply a permission command such as chmod, change mount settings, or alter firmware based only on an unrelated forum post or error code. Community reports may describe different firmware, payloads, releases, or even native PS5 game launches. Without matching symptoms and direct project instructions, those changes can be irrelevant and may create new problems.
Likewise, do not treat an image conversion, BIOS change, or file move as a universal fix. First establish what the installed project supports and where its own documentation expects files. If you ask for help, provide the project and release, firmware, launch method, image format, detection behavior, and exact error; these details distinguish a missing or unsupported image from an app-level or in-game failure.
