Start by updating PokeDaisy and Android, restarting the device, closing competing apps, and checking storage. PokeDaisy 1.2.0, released on 13 October 2026, specifically reports smoother frame pacing and a fix for audio hiccups at normal speed. Android devices can also become unstable when less than 10% of storage is free.
If the problem remains, use PokeDaisy’s FPS/CPU overlay to record what changes when the symptom occurs, test Android safe mode to isolate other downloaded apps, protect saves before reinstalling, and send a reproducible report with optional adb logcat -s pokedaisy output.

These branches overlap because frame pacing, CPU pressure, storage pressure, Android services, and another downloaded app can produce similar symptoms. Work from the least destructive checks toward reinstalling, and keep a written baseline so you can tell which change mattered.

Record a baseline before changing settings
A precise baseline prevents guesswork and gives support staff information they can use. Open Settings > VERSION in PokeDaisy and write down the displayed version. Also record the phone or tablet model, Android version, game title, game version, and ROM version. Note the exact sequence that triggers the fault rather than writing only “it lags.” For example, record whether the game opens normally, whether audio begins late after loading, whether fast-forward was enabled, and how long it takes before the symptom appears.

What to capture for each symptom
- Audio lag: normal speed or fast-forward, the game area or menu where it begins, whether pausing and resuming changes it, and FPS/CPU readings at the moment of the delay.
- Crashes: the action immediately before closure, whether the crash is repeatable, whether it affects one game or several, and whether it happens during startup, loading, saving, or play.
- Black screens: whether the game’s audio continues, whether touch or controller input still produces a response, whether another game renders correctly, and whether the display returns after leaving and reopening the game.
Keep the original observation even if a later step appears to fix the issue. A report that says “it stopped after a restart” is useful; a report that says only “fixed” is not.
Update PokeDaisy and Android first
PokeDaisy release 1.2.0, dated 13 October 2026, lists smoother frame pacing, an FPS/CPU overlay, faster game opening, and a fix for “Audio hiccups at normal speed.” Earlier release notes also document fixes for crashes, excessive memory use, CPU spikes, and a status-bar-related crash. If your installed build predates 1.2.0, updating is the highest-value first step for all three symptom groups.
- Open the app store used on your device and check for a PokeDaisy update. Install the newest available release.
- Open Android’s system update screen and install any available Android update. The exact menu wording varies by manufacturer, but it is normally under the device’s system or software-update settings.
- Restart the device after both updates finish. Do not assume closing and reopening the app is equivalent to a full device restart.
- Reproduce the original steps with the same game, ROM, speed setting, and save state. Compare the result with your baseline.
The release note is evidence that specific problems were addressed; it is not a promise that every device, game, or black-screen condition will be fixed. If the update changes the symptom, record exactly how: for example, “normal-speed audio is now synchronized, but fast-forward still crackles.”
Reduce Android load and verify storage
After updating, remove avoidable system pressure. Close games, video players, browsers, screen recorders, and other demanding apps. If an app remains active in the background, use Android’s app controls to force-stop that unused app, then launch PokeDaisy again. This isolates PokeDaisy from competing CPU, memory, audio-focus, or overlay activity without changing your game files.
Check free storage before blaming performance
Google Android Help states that a phone can start having issues when less than 10% of storage is free. Check the storage page in Android settings and make space if you are near that threshold. Remove or move large downloads, recordings, or unused apps according to your normal backup practice. Emptying space does not guarantee a rendering or audio fix, but it removes a documented source of general instability.

- Open Android storage settings and note the free-space amount.
- If less than 10% remains, back up anything important and remove large, unnecessary files.
- Restart the device after freeing space.
- Run the same PokeDaisy reproduction again, with other apps closed.
Do not uninstall PokeDaisy merely to create space before protecting saves. The reinstall section below explains why the renamed package needs special care.
Use the FPS/CPU overlay to diagnose audio lag
PokeDaisy’s newer release notes expose an FPS/CPU overlay. Treat it as a measurement tool, not an automatic repair. Enable the overlay in the location provided by your current PokeDaisy build, then reproduce the audio problem under controlled conditions.

- Start the same game and save state used in your baseline.
- At normal speed, note FPS, CPU load, and the point at which audio becomes late or choppy.
- Repeat the test with fast-forward, if the game supports it. Record whether the audio issue appears only there or also at normal speed.
- Pause and resume once, then note whether synchronization returns temporarily.
A drop in frame rate that coincides with the audio delay suggests a frame-pacing or workload relationship worth reporting. A stable overlay with late audio suggests a different path may be involved. Neither observation identifies a universal fix, and changing one reading is not guaranteed to cure every device.
Interpret the observations without overclaiming
- Low or fluctuating FPS with high CPU: repeat after closing other apps and freeing storage. Include the readings in a report.
- Normal FPS but audio still late: record that distinction; it helps separate audio timing from visible rendering pressure.
- Problem only during fast-forward: state the speed mode and whether normal-speed playback remains clean.
- Problem only in one game: include that game and ROM version rather than describing it as a device-wide failure.
Fix PokeDaisy crashes systematically
Crashes can be triggered by a particular game, a loading path, resource pressure, an Android interaction, or a defect already addressed in a newer build. Use the following order so each test has a clear result.
Confirm the trigger
Repeat the action once after a restart. If the crash occurs only while opening one game, test another installed game. If every game crashes at startup, record that broader scope. Note whether the app closes immediately, freezes first, displays an Android error, or returns to the launcher without a message.

Retest with a clean background
Close or force-stop unused apps, especially those that draw over other apps, record the screen, play audio, or consume substantial memory. Launch PokeDaisy directly after the device restart and avoid opening other apps until the test is complete. If the crash disappears, add the conflicting app and the order of operations to your report; do not assume the last app you closed is proven to be the cause without retesting.
Check updates and storage again
Verify the PokeDaisy version in Settings > VERSION, verify Android updates, and confirm that storage remains above the 10% warning threshold. A device can become low on space again after downloads, recordings, or game files are added.
Use safe mode as an isolation test
Android safe mode temporarily disables downloaded apps. The entry method differs by manufacturer, but commonly involves opening the power menu, pressing and holding the on-screen power-off option, and confirming the safe-mode prompt. Consult the device maker’s instructions if that gesture does not work.
- Enter safe mode without uninstalling anything.
- Open PokeDaisy and perform the same crash-triggering steps.
- Exit safe mode by restarting normally.
- If PokeDaisy works in safe mode, remove or disable recently installed downloaded apps one at a time, restart normally, and retest after each change.
Safe mode is an isolation result, not a diagnosis of which app is responsible. If the crash remains in safe mode, downloaded-app interference is less likely, so include that result when contacting PokeDaisy support.
Treat black screens as a separate diagnostic branch
Official PokeDaisy sources do not identify one universal GPU driver, Android build, or setting that fixes every black screen. A black display can mean that rendering stopped while the emulator continues, that one game failed to initialize, or that the whole app stalled. First determine which of those you are seeing.

Check whether the game is still running
- Listen for continuing game audio.
- Press a known input and observe whether sound, vibration, or another response occurs.
- Try leaving the game and opening a different game. If only one title is affected, record its exact version.
- Note whether the screen is black immediately at launch or turns black after a menu, save-state load, speed change, or orientation change.
Do not repeatedly tap or force-close before recording these observations; the distinction between “black screen with audio” and “complete app freeze” is valuable evidence.
Apply the common low-risk sequence
- Install the latest PokeDaisy release and any Android update.
- Restart the device.
- Close or force-stop competing apps.
- Confirm adequate free storage, especially if less than 10% was available.
- Reproduce with the same game and ROM.
- Test Android safe mode if the black screen persists.
If safe mode changes the result, investigate recently downloaded apps. If it does not, report the device, Android version, PokeDaisy version, game version, and the audio/input behavior. Avoid claiming that a particular graphics driver is responsible unless support identifies one for your exact configuration.

Reinstalling can remove local data, so it belongs after updates, restarts, storage checks, and isolation tests. PokeDaisy was renamed from PokeDaisey to PokeDaisy in version 1.1.0. Android installs the renamed app alongside the old app rather than treating it as the same installation. Saves left only in the old app-specific directory can therefore be lost when the old installation is removed.
Back up the old app’s saves
- Use Android’s file manager or a computer connection to locate
Android/data/com.pokedaisey.app/. - Copy the relevant save files and the entire folder, when practical, to a separate location such as a computer or another backed-up directory.
- Verify that the copied files exist before uninstalling the old PokeDaisey installation.
- Only then uninstall the installation you intend to remove.
- Install or open the current PokeDaisy build and restore saves only after confirming that the backup is intact.
Android file-access restrictions vary by version and manufacturer. If the built-in file manager cannot open the directory, use a computer connection or another method you already trust; do not delete the folder while trying to browse it.
Reconnect user-managed RetroArch folders
User-managed RetroArch folders can be selected again during setup. This is different from assuming that app-private data will be carried over automatically. When setup asks for a folder, choose the backed-up or existing user-managed location deliberately and verify that the expected games and saves appear before deleting any backup.

Submit a report that can be reproduced
When the sequence above does not solve the issue, use the official PokeDaisy feedback form. It requests the information below; supplying every field avoids a follow-up round that delays diagnosis.
- PokeDaisy version from Settings > VERSION.
- Device model and Android version.
- Game title, game version, and ROM version.
- Expected behavior and the behavior you actually observed.
- Numbered reproduction steps, including speed mode and the point where the symptom appears.
- Whether updating, restarting, freeing storage, closing other apps, or safe mode changed the result.
Attach optional diagnostic logs
The form says logs are optional and accepts output from:
adb logcat -s pokedaisyRun that command only if you already have Android Debug Bridge configured and know how to capture its output. Include the relevant time window and describe which reproduction produced the log. Do not paste unrelated personal data or credentials.

Choose crash reporting deliberately
If you opt in under Settings > CRASH REPORTS, the repository states that reports can include the device model, Android version, and crash location. Opt in when you are comfortable sharing that technical information and mention the opt-in status in your report so the maintainers know a report may exist.

Prevent repeat failures
- Keep PokeDaisy and Android updated instead of postponing releases that contain stability fixes.
- Leave more than the minimum free storage threshold whenever possible; Google’s warning begins below 10% free.
- Close heavy background apps before long sessions or fast-forward use.
- Keep a current copy of important saves, especially while moving from the old PokeDaisey installation to PokeDaisy.
- Record version numbers after major updates so a future regression can be identified quickly.
- When reporting, distinguish normal speed from fast-forward and one-game failures from device-wide failures.
The practical order is therefore clear: update, restart, reduce load, check storage, measure with the overlay, isolate with safe mode, protect saves before reinstalling, and report the exact result. That sequence addresses the documented audio fix and known stability work while avoiding unsupported claims about a single black-screen cause.
