If a Netflix download won’t play offline, first reconnect briefly and make sure you’re signed in. Then check whether the problem affects one title or every download and follow any error code shown on screen. Avoid clearing app data or reinstalling until you’re ready to lose saved downloads: those steps remove them and sign you out.
Start with the symptom and preserve your downloads
Before changing settings, note the device and operating system, whether one title or all downloads fail, and the exact wording or error code. Netflix recommends searching its Help Center for the specific error; the right fix depends on whether the issue is account access, a particular download, storage, connectivity, or a download limit.
- One title fails: suspect a problem with that download, title availability, or a title-specific limit.
- Every download fails: check that you’re signed in, then look for an app, device, or account-limit issue.
- An error code appears: use the matching section below before trying general fixes.
Do not start by clearing Netflix app data or reinstalling the app. Netflix says these actions remove saved downloads and sign you out. Make sure you know how to sign in again before using them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsConfirm you’re signed in before going offline
Reconnect to Wi-Fi or cellular temporarily, open Netflix, and confirm you’re signed in to the account that downloaded the titles. Netflix says downloaded titles can play without an internet connection, but you must be signed in to access them. Its guidance for downloaded shows and movies is in Netflix’s connection-error help page.

- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits

After confirming account access, try the download again offline. If you need to troubleshoot online, stay connected until you have finished; sign-in and app updates may require a connection.
Netflix’s separate Offline play article covers games, not general movie and TV downloads. Its game-specific steps—opening a game and letting it fully load before disconnecting—should not be treated as a universal fix for downloaded shows or films.

Use the error code to choose the right fix
iPhone or iPad: “Cannot play title. Please try again later. (-103)”
Netflix says error -103 typically points to a connectivity problem during the download. Delete the affected title’s download, reconnect, and download that title again. This removes that title’s saved copy, but does not call for clearing all Netflix app data. See Netflix’s instructions for error -103.

Android: DLST.N1009
Netflix says information stored on the device may need refreshing and recommends clearing Netflix app data. Warning: clearing app data removes downloaded titles and signs you out. Confirm you can sign back in before proceeding. Follow Netflix’s DLST.N1009 instructions.

Android: DLS.2
Netflix says DLS.2 typically indicates a network-connectivity problem. Reconnect to a network and restart the device. If the error remains, Netflix’s guidance includes clearing app data; this deletes downloads and signs you out, so use that step only after confirming you can log back in. See Netflix’s DLS.2 help page.
Android: OF.NA.5 or an external-storage message
Netflix identifies OF.NA.5 as an SD-card issue. Reinsert the card or try a different compatible card. If the device or card does not support Netflix downloads to external storage, switch the download location to internal storage. This is a narrow storage fix, not a remedy for sign-in or licensing problems. See Netflix’s OF.NA.5 guidance.

“You have downloads on too many devices”
This message means the account’s plan limit for devices with downloads has been reached. Remove downloads from another device or review the plan options available to your account. Netflix explains the limit in its downloads-on-too-many-devices help page.
NQL.22005
Netflix attributes this error to the maximum number of simultaneous downloads allowed by a content license agreement. Delete downloads to make room; if needed, remove titles from other seasons as well. See Netflix’s NQL.22005 instructions.

iPhone or iPad: generic “Cannot play title” message
Netflix’s general guidance focuses on connectivity. If the message appears while you’re online or seems related to a live connection, try these steps:
- Restart the device.
- If you’re on public Wi-Fi, check whether the network blocks streaming or requires a sign-in page.
- Move closer to the Wi-Fi router or try a more reliable network.
- If you customized VPN, proxy, or DNS settings, restore their defaults and test again.
- If the connection problem persists, contact your internet service provider.
These are connection checks, not a blanket fix for every offline download. Netflix’s steps are on its generic “Cannot play title” page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check title, app, and device support
Some Netflix titles are not available to download. Netflix lists Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad, Fire tablets, and Chromebooks with Google Play among download-capable device categories, and says its Windows app does not offer downloads. Device and feature support can change, so check the current Netflix download troubleshooting page for your device.
If your device supports downloads, update the Netflix app and operating system where available, then retry the affected title. On Android, clearing app data is a later step with the download-loss and sign-out consequences described above. On iPhone or iPad, reinstalling Netflix also removes saved downloads and signs you out; only do it if you can sign in again and accept downloading titles again.
Tell a download-device limit from a title limit
| Message or pattern | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “You have downloads on too many devices” | The plan’s limit on devices holding downloads has been reached. | Remove downloads from another device or review plan options. Netflix guidance. |
| NQL.22005 | A title’s licensing agreement limits simultaneous downloads. | Delete downloads, including titles from other seasons if relevant. Netflix guidance. |
These are different limits: removing downloads from another device addresses the first, while deleting titles addresses the second.
Quick Recap
Choose the least disruptive next step
- Check access: reconnect briefly and confirm you’re signed in to Netflix.
- Identify scope: determine whether one title or all downloads fail, and record any exact error.
- Apply the matching fix: retry a failed title, address the specific network or storage error, or remove downloads when a limit is reached.
- Update supported software: update the app and operating system if the device supports Netflix downloads.
- Use destructive steps only when needed: before clearing Android app data or reinstalling on iPhone/iPad, confirm you can sign back in and accept that downloads will be removed.
