If Windows 11 lock screen widgets are missing, out of order, or not behaving as expected, start at Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. Check that Widgets is enabled, review the configured list and order, then check Microsoft Store for a Windows Web Experience Pack update. These steps cover the configuration and component-update checks Microsoft documents; they do not guarantee a fix for every frozen widget.
Check the lock screen widget settings
- Open Start > Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
- Make sure Widgets is turned on.
- Review the widget list. If the item you want is absent and Add widget is available, open it and select an available widget. Microsoft says only widgets that support a small size can be added to the lock screen.
- To change the reading order, drag a widget higher or lower in the Settings list. Microsoft says that list order matches the order on the lock screen.
- Use a widget’s more-options menu to remove it or customize it when its provider offers those options.

Know which widget list can be changed
The Weather and more lock-screen app has a limitation: Microsoft says its widget list cannot currently be customized. If that is the list you are viewing and you do not see controls to add, remove, or rearrange items, Microsoft does not identify that absence as a device fault.
Check for a Windows Web Experience Pack update
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library.
- Search for Windows Web Experience Pack.
- Select Update if the Store offers it.
Microsoft Support says that if widgets are not functioning properly or features are missing, “updating the Windows Web Experience Pack might be the solution you need.” If the Store does not show an Update option, Microsoft reports that the latest version is already installed. An update is a supported troubleshooting check, not a confirmed cause or guaranteed repair for every lock-screen problem. See Microsoft’s How To Update the Windows Web Experience Pack.

What to check if a widget remains stuck
Microsoft’s general Widgets guidance says that both Windows Web Experience Pack and Start Experiences App should be current for Widgets and Discover dashboards to work as expected. This is useful component context, but it is not a specific promise to fix a lock-screen widget that remains frozen. The documented checks establish how to configure the lock-screen list and check the component update; they do not establish a universal cause or a further repair procedure for symptoms that persist.
Why lock-screen content can differ between devices
Microsoft’s July 30, 2024 release note for KB5040529 (OS Build 26100.1301) announced sports, traffic, and finance content alongside weather on the lock screen. That dated release note is rollout context, not evidence that every Windows 11 device currently has identical content or settings. See Microsoft’s KB5040529 release note.
