If notes in Neon Bloom appear at the wrong time or in the wrong place, Neon Bloom itself is unlikely to be rewriting the chart. First disable the Neon Bloom effect and confirm whether the problem is visual or affects note timing and positions. Then verify that the intended song, author, difficulty, and chart version loaded; make a backup; and repair the copy in the official Synth Riders Beatmap Editor for Windows. Desynchronization, ghost-note audio cues, save interference, and duplicate song names are more plausible causes than the glow effect.
What an “incorrect note” problem can mean
Players often use the same description for several different failures. Separating them prevents you from editing a healthy chart or chasing a graphics issue as if it were bad beatmap data.
Visual changes only
Neon Bloom adds glow to notes, rails, walls, the player platform, controller orbs, and stage lights. A glow halo can make an object look larger, softer, or slightly displaced against a dark background. Flicker, white dots, or changing brightness are rendering symptoms. Current official release notes describe Neon Bloom as a graphics setting; they do not say that it changes a note’s beat, coordinates, or rail path.
Timing mismatch
A timing mismatch means the note reaches the hit point earlier or later than the music. This can result from playback desynchronization, an incorrect BPM or offset, or a chart that was authored against a different audio file. The Beatmap Editor’s public-beta notes specifically mention a playback-desync fix and a changed timing method.

Position or path mismatch
Here, the beat is correct but a note, wall, or rail is physically misplaced. The chart data may have been edited, exported incorrectly, or loaded from a different version. This is the case for the editor, not for the Neon Bloom graphics toggle.
Ghost-note cue
You may hear a hit cue or other audio indication after deleting a note, even though no object is visible. The public-beta notes record a ghost-note fix stating that deleted notes should no longer give audio cues. Reproducing the issue after a clean reload is important before changing chart data.
Wrong chart loaded
A restart or song selection can occasionally open a different song that shares the same name. Synth Riders version 3.6.5a1 notes describe a fix for that condition, along with a fix for Custom Experiences that failed to load. If several Neon Bloom entries exist, a wrong or stale file can look exactly like a damaged chart.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart with a controlled diagnosis
Do not edit the original file while the cause is unknown. Record enough information to reproduce the discrepancy and then test one variable at a time.
- Record your environment. Note whether you are playing on Quest, a Steam-based installation, or another supported platform; the game version; the Beatmap Editor version if you use it; whether the song is official or custom; the selected difficulty; and the exact song timestamp where the first mismatch occurs.
- Describe the symptom precisely. Is the object early or late, at the wrong coordinate, missing, duplicated, audible after deletion, or merely difficult to see because of glow? Write down whether the error affects one note, a section, or the entire song.
- Reproduce it twice. Restart the song and check the same timestamp. A one-time discrepancy points toward loading, caching, or playback state; a repeatable discrepancy is more useful for chart repair or bug reporting.
- Capture evidence. A short video showing the music, the visible object, the selected song metadata, and the timestamp can distinguish timing from rendering problems.
Test Neon Bloom as a graphics variable
In the game, open Settings > Advanced Graphics > Neon Bloom Effect. Version 3.6.7a1 notes say the setting defaults to Low on Quest and Steam Frame.

- Set Neon Bloom Effect to its lowest available value or disable it.
- Reload Neon Bloom rather than only resuming a paused session.
- Play through the recorded timestamp and compare the note’s beat, location, and visibility.
- Enable the effect again and repeat the same passage.
If only halo intensity, flicker, white dots, or visibility changes, leave the chart untouched and pursue graphics troubleshooting or a game update. Version 3.6.7a2 notes report a fix for flickering white dots on The Lost City when Neon Bloom was enabled, which illustrates that bloom-related artifacts can be scene-specific. That report does not establish a defect in the Neon Bloom chart.
If the note is early, late, or physically elsewhere with the effect both on and off, continue with chart and loading checks. The available official notes do not report Neon Bloom rewriting chart positions or timing.
Confirm that Synth Riders loaded the intended chart
Before opening an editor, verify the identity of the file the game actually played. Compare every available identifier rather than relying on the song title alone.
- Title: confirm spelling and capitalization.
- Author or mapper: check that it is the expected creator.
- Difficulty: a different difficulty can have a different note pattern while sharing the same title.
- Version or date: compare the chart’s version information or file timestamp when shown by your installation.
- Audio: make sure the music is the intended recording, not another file with a similar name.
Look for duplicate downloads, old exports, and copies in different custom-song locations. The 3.6.5a1 duplicate-name fix is a reason to treat same-titled entries as a diagnostic risk, not proof that your particular file is affected. If selecting the song after a restart produces a different author, difficulty, or timestamp, remove or rename the stale duplicate according to your normal file-management workflow, then load the verified copy again. Also confirm that a Custom Experience is actually loading; the same release notes document a fix for Custom Experiences that previously failed to load.
Back up before repairing anything
The official Beatmap Editor is distributed as a free Windows tool for creating and repairing custom charts. Its public-alpha notice warns that testers may not have encountered every bug, so preserve the original before you open it.

- Close Synth Riders and any chart-management or file-sync application that might write to the song.
- Copy the chart and, if it is stored separately, the matching audio into a clearly named backup folder.
- Keep the original read-only or otherwise untouched while you work on a second copy.
- Give each repair attempt a distinct filename or folder name so you can roll back to the last known-good version.
The alpha release notes list automatic backups, error scanning, rounding-error fixes, split and join rails, group move, paste with BPM, and object highlighting. The exact controls can vary by installed editor build, but these features make a copied chart safer to inspect and adjust. Do not assume an automatic backup replaces your own external copy.
Repair timing in the official Beatmap Editor
Use the editor when the music and chart disagree in time. Its official Steam description says it lets you place notes, walls, and rails so they synchronize with the music and then load the result as a Custom Song in Synth Riders.
- Open the backup copy. Do not point the editor at the only original.
- Load the matching audio. Confirm that the waveform or playback you see is the same recording used by the game.
- Check the beat grid and BPM. A wrong BPM can make an initially aligned section drift progressively. If the editor build offers a BPM-aware paste or timing operation, verify the BPM before applying it.
- Locate the first divergence. Start before the recorded timestamp and determine whether the offset is constant or grows over time. A constant offset suggests an initial alignment problem; increasing drift suggests BPM or audio-length differences.
- Use playback repeatedly. The public-beta notes mention a changed timing method and a playback-desync fix. If editor playback and in-game playback disagree, save a test copy and reload it in the game before making broad edits.
- Apply the smallest correction. Adjust the relevant timing or beat-grid alignment rather than moving an entire chart without confirming the cause.
- Run available checks. Use error scanning and rounding-error checks where your installed editor exposes them. Inspect rails for broken joins and use split or join operations only where the path itself is wrong.
- Save to a new file. Preserve the pre-edit copy, close the editor, and reopen the saved file to confirm that the correction persisted.
Do not infer a timing correction from visual glow. Use the music, beat grid, and repeatable playback result as your references.
Correct note and rail positions
If the beat is correct but an object is in the wrong place, inspect the affected objects rather than changing global timing.
Single notes
Select the suspect note and compare it with adjacent patterns at the same difficulty. Confirm that the note’s beat remains correct, then move its position on the appropriate grid. Object highlighting can help reveal a selected note under heavy bloom. Play the surrounding phrase after every small edit.

Walls and rails
Check the start and end points, joins, and direction of travel. A rail that appears to jump may have a malformed segment rather than a timing error. The alpha feature list includes split and join rails; use those operations on the copied chart and inspect the result in playback.
Grouped patterns
When several objects share the same displacement, a group-move operation may be safer than editing each one individually. Verify that grouped objects should move together before applying it; otherwise, correct only the affected notes.
Rounding and grid errors
Small discrepancies can arise from numerical rounding. Use the editor’s rounding-error checks if available, then test the exported chart in the game. A correction that looks exact in the editor but fails after export should be treated as a save or format problem until proven otherwise.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Save and reload without creating a false result
A successful edit in the editor is not enough. The game must load the exact file you saved.
- Save the repaired copy under a new name or in a new working folder.
- Close the editor and any other program that may still hold the file open.
- Check that the file’s modified timestamp changed and that its size is plausible for the edit you made.
- Copy that verified file into the game’s custom-song location used by your installation.
- Remove ambiguity by avoiding multiple files with the same title during the test.
- Launch Synth Riders, select the matching author and difficulty, and play the recorded timestamp.
- If the old behavior remains, stop and verify the file path and selected metadata before editing again.
The public-beta notes mention save-function changes intended to resolve save issues, but antivirus software, permissions, or a file opened outside the editor can still interfere. Saving a new copy and closing competing programs reduces those variables. If a deleted note still produces an audio cue, perform a clean reload and test the updated editor build; the beta notes specifically say deleted notes should no longer give audio cues after the ghost-note fix.

Choose the repair approach by symptom
| Observed symptom | Most useful first test | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Glow, flicker, white dots, or reduced contrast only | Toggle Settings > Advanced Graphics > Neon Bloom Effect | Treat it as rendering; update or adjust graphics settings, and do not edit chart timing. |
| Every note is early or late by roughly the same amount | Compare editor beat alignment and in-game playback | Inspect initial offset and audio alignment in the Beatmap Editor. |
| Timing drifts farther from the music as the song continues | Check BPM and the exact audio recording | Correct BPM or audio matching before moving individual notes. |
| One note, wall, or rail is misplaced but the beat is right | Disable bloom and inspect the object with highlighting | Repair the object’s position or rail geometry in a backup copy. |
| A deleted note still gives a cue | Save, close, and cleanly reload the chart | Test the public-beta ghost-note fix or report a reproducible editor issue. |
| The same title opens a different pattern | Compare author, difficulty, version, and timestamps | Remove duplicate or stale copies and retest the verified chart. |
| Your edit disappears after reopening | Check save permissions, antivirus interference, and file timestamps | Save a new copy with other programs closed, then copy that file to the custom-song location. |
Official versus custom charts
The Beatmap Editor workflow applies to custom songs and to charts you are authorized to modify. An official in-game chart is not automatically editable through the same user-file workflow, and the supplied official notes do not identify the exact Neon Bloom chart file, mapper, or a confirmed chart-specific defect. Before claiming that the chart itself is broken, establish whether you are dealing with an official song, a downloaded custom chart, or a personal export.
For a custom chart, retain the original author and version information when you report a problem. For an official chart, first verify game version, selected difficulty, and whether the issue survives a clean reload with Neon Bloom disabled. Avoid replacing files or redistributing modified content unless the chart’s license and the game’s rules allow it.
When to report an editor or game bug
Report the issue only after it remains reproducible with the intended chart, a clean reload, and Neon Bloom tested both on and off. The official Beatmap Editor announcement asks reporters to explain what they were doing, whether the issue is reproducible, and how to reproduce it; it also notes that video can help narrow the cause.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Include:
- Platform and game version.
- Beatmap Editor version, if involved.
- Chart title, author, difficulty, and version or file timestamp.
- The exact timestamp and a concise sequence of actions.
- Whether the problem is timing, position, missing content, a ghost cue, saving, or rendering.
- Results with Neon Bloom disabled and enabled.
- A short video or screenshots showing the discrepancy.
- Whether the issue survives saving a new copy and loading it as a Custom Song.
This information lets maintainers distinguish a game-loading problem from a chart-data problem and a graphics artifact from a timing fault.
Quick Recap
Practical decision tree
- Does disabling Neon Bloom remove the mismatch? If yes, it is a visual issue; stop editing the chart.
- Does the selected author, difficulty, or version differ from the expected one? If yes, fix the duplicate or stale-file selection first.
- Is the timing offset constant or progressive? Constant offsets point to initial alignment; progressive drift points to BPM or audio mismatch.
- Is only one object wrong while the beat is correct? Repair that note, wall, or rail in a backed-up editor copy.
- Does the saved copy reproduce the issue after a clean reload? If no, the original save or file-selection workflow was the problem. If yes, document the reproducible case and report it with versions and video.
