If your Samsung Galaxy keyboard lags, misses taps, or disappears, first check whether touch problems affect only the keyboard or the whole screen. Restart the phone, select Samsung Keyboard as the default, close background apps, and install available updates. If the issue remains, Safe mode can help identify an app conflict; touch failures elsewhere or visible screen damage point toward a possible display problem.
Check whether the problem is the keyboard or the screen
Tap other controls, such as app icons or buttons, and try typing in a different app. If taps register everywhere except the keyboard, focus on keyboard settings and software. If multiple parts of the screen miss touches, do not assume the keyboard is the cause: Samsung lists temporary system errors, outdated software, app compatibility, and physical damage among possible reasons for abnormal display response. Try basic keyboard and software fixes first
Restart the Galaxy
Restart the phone, then test the keyboard again. A restart is a simple first check for a temporary system problem.
Choose Samsung Keyboard as the default
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Keyboard list and default.
- Tap Default keyboard and select Samsung Keyboard.
Samsung notes that menu names and paths can vary by model and software version. Its Galaxy keyboard troubleshooting guide provides the US instructions.

Close background apps and optimize
Close recently used apps. If your phone has the option, open Settings > Device care and tap Optimize now. This can reduce background activity while you check whether typing improves.
Install available software updates
Open Settings > Software update, then tap Download and install or Check for updates, depending on the options shown. Menu paths and feature availability vary by Galaxy model, carrier, region, and software version.

Use Safe mode to check for a downloaded-app conflict
Safe mode runs the phone without downloaded third-party apps. Test the keyboard there. If it works normally in Safe mode, a downloaded app may be interfering.
- Start the phone in Safe mode using the instructions for your Galaxy model.
- Test the keyboard in more than one app.
- If it works, restart normally and remove recently installed apps one at a time, testing after each removal.
If the keyboard still lags or misses taps in Safe mode, a downloaded app is less likely to be the cause. Samsung’s lag-specific guidance also recommends checking Safe mode; that Philippines support page was updated on 2022-12-23.

Clear Samsung Keyboard data only if simpler steps fail
Clearing the keyboard’s data resets its settings and removes learned words. Samsung explicitly warns: “This will erase all your keyboard settings, including saved words.” Try the less disruptive steps above first.
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Find and select Samsung Keyboard. If it is not listed, enable the option to show system apps, where available.
- Tap Force stop, then open Storage.
- Tap Clear data and confirm, then test the keyboard.
If the keyboard is missing only on the lock screen
Samsung says a third-party keyboard set as the default may not appear on the lock screen. Use Safe mode to restore the Samsung keyboard, then check that Samsung Keyboard is selected as the default. Follow Samsung’s lock-screen keyboard guidance.

When to seek display or hardware service
Arrange an inspection at a Samsung-authorized service center if touch failures affect multiple apps, the display is visibly damaged, the phone was dropped and symptoms began afterward, or the problem continues in Safe mode. Samsung’s keyboard guidance recommends authorized service when a fall may have damaged the screen; its display guide notes that physical damage can prevent normal operation. A compatible Bluetooth keyboard can let you enter text while the on-screen keyboard is unreliable. Put the keyboard in pairing mode, open Bluetooth settings on the Galaxy, select the keyboard, and enter or confirm a pairing code if prompted. Compatibility and available layouts vary. A physical keyboard does not repair on-screen lag or missed touches; wired USB keyboards may require a compatible OTG adapter, and support varies by device.
