If House Flipper 2 crashes, freezes, or sits on an endless loading screen on Nintendo Switch 2, follow Nintendo’s recovery order: restart the console, install system and game updates, check the software for corrupt data, then redownload it. If the game is installed on a microSD Express card, remove the card and test a fresh download in system memory. Persistent “The software was closed because an error occurred” failures may require a Nintendo Switch 2 factory reset that keeps save data.

This is platform troubleshooting rather than a confirmed House Flipper 2 defect. No authoritative bulletin currently confirms a Switch 2-specific mission, save, DLC, or patch problem, so treat the symptom you can reproduce as the evidence when escalating it.

What this guide covers

House Flipper 2 for Nintendo Switch 2 is a digital release from Frozen District, listed for 15 October 2026. Nintendo lists an estimated download size of 13.1 GB and online play for 1–4 players. The procedures below apply to the Switch 2 edition and its storage, operating-system, and download paths.

A crash can mean that the game closes to the HOME Menu, while a freeze leaves the picture or controls unresponsive. A loading problem may be an infinite loading screen, a job that never opens, or a launch that hangs before the title screen. These symptoms can have different triggers, but Nintendo’s sequence moves from reversible checks to progressively more disruptive recovery.

Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch™ 2
  • Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
  • Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.

Match the symptom to the first test

Symptom Start with Do not assume
The game will not start or closes immediately Restart, update the console and software, then check corrupt data That the installation is permanently damaged
Infinite loading screen or a job that never opens Updates, corrupt-data check, and a system-memory redownload That one mission or save is a confirmed Switch 2 bug
“The software was closed because an error occurred” Repeat Nintendo’s steps, then use the save-preserving factory reset if necessary That deleting save data is the next step
Console becomes completely unresponsive Hold POWER for 12 seconds, then restart normally That a forced shutdown is the same as a factory reset

Protect your save before changing storage

Most of the early steps do not remove save data. Deleting and redownloading the game removes the installed software, not the progression stored by the console, but you should still confirm that the correct Nintendo Account is on the system and avoid any menu option that explicitly deletes save data.

A microSD Express card is a separate variable. A damaged, incompatible, or intermittently readable card can make downloaded software fail at startup or while loading. If you use one, record whether House Flipper 2 is installed there before changing anything. The safest diagnostic is to remove the card and download the game to system memory; that gives you a clean comparison without immediately formatting the card.

Use Nintendo’s least-destructive troubleshooting order

Perform the steps in order and test House Flipper 2 after each one. Stopping when the problem is fixed avoids unnecessary downloads or resets.

1. Restart Nintendo Switch 2 normally

  1. Hold the POWER button for about three seconds.
  2. Choose Power Options, then Restart.
  3. After the HOME Menu returns, start House Flipper 2 and reproduce the action that previously failed.

If the console does not respond to the POWER menu, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force it off. Wait briefly, press POWER once to turn it on, and try the normal restart procedure again later. A forced shutdown is a recovery action for an unresponsive system; it does not repair corrupt game data by itself.

2. Update the console

  1. Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select System Update and allow the console to complete the check and installation.

Nintendo’s current update information lists Switch 2 system version 23.0.1, released 30 September 2026. Nintendo says that update fixed cases where software could take a long time to start, pause, or close. The version number matters: if your console reports an older version, finish the update and retest before changing the game installation.

3. Update House Flipper 2

  1. Highlight House Flipper 2 on the HOME Menu without opening it.
  2. Press the + or − button to open the software options.
  3. Choose Software Update, then Via the Internet.
  4. Wait for the download and installation to finish, then launch the game.

Do not infer that a new game update exists simply because the console system updated. Check the software’s own update menu and test the exact activity that caused the crash or loading hang.

4. Check for corrupt data

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Select Data Management.
  3. Select Manage Software, then House Flipper 2.
  4. Choose Check for Corrupt Data and let the scan complete.

If the check reports a problem, follow the on-screen repair or redownload instruction. If it reports no corruption but the same symptom remains, continue; a clean scan does not rule out a storage-card or system-level problem.

5. Redownload House Flipper 2

When an update and corruption check do not resolve the failure, delete the affected software and redownload it. Use a stable internet connection and leave enough free space for the approximately 13.1 GB download plus normal system overhead.

For a useful storage test, remove the microSD Express card before starting the redownload. Install House Flipper 2 directly to system memory, then launch it without moving the software back to the card. If the game works in system memory, the installation location is an important clue; it does not by itself prove that every crash was caused by the card.

Diagnose the microSD Express card

Nintendo specifically recommends formatting or replacing the microSD Express card when downloaded software still fails to start. Treat this as a storage diagnosis, not a universal cure for crashes.

Compare the two installation locations

Test What it tells you Trade-off
House Flipper 2 on the microSD Express card Represents your normal setup and may reproduce the failure Does not isolate whether the card or the installed files are at fault
Card removed; fresh download in system memory Separates card access from the game installation Requires enough internal storage and another full download
Card formatted, then tested again Removes file-system problems on that card Formatting is destructive to data on the card; verify what must be copied or redownloaded first
Card replaced with another compatible microSD Express card Provides the clearest card-versus-console comparison Requires new hardware and another transfer or download

Remove the card for a controlled test

  1. Power the console down normally before removing storage.
  2. Remove the microSD Express card according to the Switch 2 hardware instructions.
  3. Redownload House Flipper 2 to system memory rather than moving an existing installation.
  4. Launch the game and repeat the same job, menu, or loading transition that failed.

If the system-memory copy works repeatedly while the card installation does not, keep the game in system memory while you decide whether to format or replace the card. If both copies fail in the same way, the card is less likely to be the only cause and you should continue with Nintendo’s software recovery steps.

Format or replace only after checking your data

Formatting erases the card. Confirm that screenshots, video clips, and any other files you need are copied or otherwise recoverable, and understand which games can be redownloaded from your Nintendo Account. Use the Switch 2 storage-format option rather than a computer’s generic formatter, then install House Flipper 2 again and retest. If formatting does not help, replacement is the next storage comparison Nintendo identifies.

Do not promise yourself that a new Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card will cure every crash. It is a targeted test for startup and loading failures that persist after the basic update and redownload sequence.

When the game closes with an unexpected-error message

If the screen says, “The software was closed because an error occurred,” retry the earlier steps individually. Restart, update both layers, check for corrupt data, and redownload before escalating. Record whether the message appears at launch, while opening a job, during a loading transition, or after a particular period of play.

Use the save-preserving factory reset as the final software recovery step

Nintendo documents a Switch 2 factory-reset option that restores system settings without deleting save data. Use it only after the less-destructive steps and after confirming that you can redownload the game from the correct Nintendo Account.

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Go to System, then Formatting Options.
  3. Choose the factory-reset option that explicitly preserves save data, and read the warning screens carefully.
  4. Complete the reset, reconnect the console to the internet, and install system updates again if prompted.
  5. Redownload House Flipper 2 to system memory before reintroducing the microSD Express card.

Do not select a general factory reset that deletes save data when your goal is the save-preserving recovery. A reset changes system settings and requires setup again, so plan for account sign-in, network configuration, and other preferences to be restored.

Branch by the way the failure happens

It fails before the title screen

Prioritize the system update, game update, corrupt-data check, and system-memory redownload. If the failure disappears after moving off the microSD Express card, leave the game in system memory while you test or replace the card.

It hangs on an infinite loading screen

First reproduce the loading screen after restarting and updating. Then perform the corruption check and a fresh system-memory download. Note whether every save hangs or only one location, job, or transition. That distinction is useful evidence, but it is not proof of a confirmed game defect.

It freezes when starting a job

After the standard sequence, test a different job or a newly created save if the game allows it. If one save consistently fails while a new save works, preserve the affected save and report the exact reproduction rather than deleting it. No authoritative source currently establishes a House Flipper 2 Switch 2 bug tied to a particular mission, DLC item, or save file.

The whole console locks up

Hold POWER for 12 seconds, power the console on, and return to the normal restart and update sequence. Repeated hard locks, especially outside House Flipper 2, point to a broader console or storage issue and should be reported to Nintendo with the frequency and circumstances.

Do not copy PC troubleshooting into a Switch 2 guide

House Flipper’s detailed crash and infinite-loading advice is written for PC. It discusses graphics hardware, graphics drivers, BIOS settings, frame-rate limits, cloud-sync folders, and antivirus software. Nintendo Switch 2 does not expose those PC controls, so changing them is neither possible nor an appropriate Switch 2 fix.

The House Flipper support material says technical problems should be routed through Quick Support and its FAQ, and it includes a save-file migration article. A separate support statement says the developers do not develop the Nintendo Switch or mobile versions. That makes the Nintendo platform procedure the authoritative first path for this edition; use the developer channel to report a reproducible game symptom after the console steps, not to apply PC-only settings.

When to contact Nintendo or House Flipper support

Nintendo’s documented instruction is: “If the issue persists, please contact us for additional support.” Contact Nintendo after completing the sequence, especially when the game still fails from system memory or the console shows errors in other software.

Use House Flipper’s Quick Support route as well when the failure is repeatable inside the game. Include enough detail for support to distinguish an installation, storage, account, or game-state problem:

  • The exact wording of any error message.
  • Whether the copy is digital or card-based.
  • Whether House Flipper 2 is installed in system memory or on a microSD Express card.
  • Switch 2 system version and the House Flipper 2 software version shown by the console.
  • Whether the problem occurs at launch, during loading, when starting a job, or during ordinary play.
  • Whether a restart, update, corruption check, system-memory redownload, and card removal changed the result.
  • Whether a new save reproduces the behavior, without deleting the original save.

Recovery order at a glance

Order Action Impact
1 Restart normally; force shutdown only if unresponsive Least disruptive
2 Update Switch 2 to the current system version Reversible system maintenance
3 Update House Flipper 2 through Software Update > Via the Internet Reversible software maintenance
4 Run Data Management > Manage Software > House Flipper 2 > Check for Corrupt Data Diagnostic scan
5 Delete and redownload, preferably to system memory for the first storage comparison Large download; installed software is replaced
6 Format or replace the microSD Express card if card-based startup failures persist Formatting is destructive to card contents
7 Restore factory settings while preserving save data, then redownload to system memory Most disruptive; system setup is required again
8 Contact Nintendo and House Flipper support with reproduction details Escalation for unresolved cases

Following this order gives you a clean answer to the two most important questions: whether the failure survives a current console and game installation, and whether changing the microSD Express card removes the trigger. If it still fails after the save-preserving reset and a system-memory download, report the exact symptom instead of assuming an unconfirmed Switch 2-specific defect.
