There is no confirmed Hitman: Absolution-specific Switch 2 fix yet. As of 19 October 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition has not launched, so reports from pre-release software, other Hitman games, or unrelated Switch 2 titles cannot establish a final defect pattern. After launch, use Nintendo’s documented sequence—restart, update, check software data, and redownload—before attempting more destructive recovery. Protect save data, test handheld and docked modes separately, and send reproducible title-specific faults to Feral Interactive with complete details.
What is known about the Switch 2 Edition
Feral Interactive announced on 15 October 2026 that Hitman: Absolution – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch on 22 October 2026. That means a crash, input delay, or unreadable save reported before launch may come from pre-release software, a different build, or a separate game. It is not evidence that the retail Switch 2 Edition has the same problem.
Feral has not published an Absolution-specific crash, input-lag, or save-corruption patch note. Generic advice posted for Hitman: World of Assassination should not be treated as a fix for Absolution until Feral documents that the same defect and remedy apply.

The practical implication is simple: troubleshoot the installed retail build, not a rumor. Record its displayed version number and the date of the test whenever you report a problem. A later Feral note may change the recommended steps.

The safe first-response sequence after launch
Use the following order for crashes, freezes, severe stutter that feels like input delay, or an error when loading the game. The first four actions are Nintendo’s standard downloaded-software procedure. They do not erase save data.
- Restart the console. Hold the POWER button for at least three seconds, choose Power Options, then Restart. A normal restart clears a transient software state without removing installed games or saves.
- Install every available update. Check for a Nintendo Switch system update and a Hitman: Absolution software update, then restart once more. A launch-day build can differ from the version first downloaded, so do not diagnose a persistent defect until both update checks finish.
- Check the software for corrupt data. Open the console’s data-management options and use Nintendo’s Check for Corrupt Data function for Absolution. Let the check complete before launching the game. Do not choose a delete option merely because the check takes time.
- Redownload the game if corruption or repeated crashes remain. Delete only the problematic software installation, not the save-data entry, and download the game again. If the game is installed on a microSD card, test an installation in system memory or follow Nintendo’s microSD troubleshooting steps. A redownload replaces damaged program files; it is not a save-recovery tool.
- Retest under a controlled condition. Use the same mission, menu, mode and controller connection that produced the fault. Note whether the result changes in handheld mode, docked mode, or after moving the installation to system memory. This creates useful evidence instead of changing several variables at once.
If the console is completely unresponsive, use Nintendo’s forced-shutdown procedure rather than repeatedly holding buttons during a running game. A forced shutdown is a recovery measure for a locked system, not a routine substitute for the normal Restart command.
Fixing crashes and freezes
When the game crashes during startup
First finish the update, restart, corrupt-data check and redownload sequence above. If the title reaches the main menu but fails while loading a particular mission, preserve the existing save and record the mission name, checkpoint and exact sequence that triggers the crash. A repeatable mission-only failure is valuable to Feral because it distinguishes a content defect from a damaged installation.

Run the same scene in both modes after updating. Feral advertises separate handheld and docked resolution improvements, so a mode-specific failure is relevant diagnostic information. Write down whether the crash happens before the scene loads, during a demanding effect, after changing display mode, or only when a particular controller is active. Do not call the difference a confirmed performance bug until Feral acknowledges it.

When crashes continue after a redownload
Check whether the redownload was placed in system memory or on the microSD card, then repeat the test with the other storage location if practical. If the error follows the software regardless of storage and survives a clean restart, stop deleting files and escalate it. Repeated deletion can remove useful evidence without addressing a defect in the game or console environment.
What not to assume
- A report about another Hitman title does not prove that Absolution has the same crash.
- A console accessory, controller or microSD card is not an evidence-backed cure for a software fault.
- Higher advertised resolution or an “up to 60 FPS” mode does not prove that a crash is caused by the display or frame-rate target.
- Deleting save data is not a crash fix and can turn a recoverable installation problem into permanent progress loss.
Diagnosing input lag
No Absolution-specific input-lag workaround was published before launch. Treat the following as diagnostic steps, not tested fixes. The objective is to determine whether the delay comes from the game build, a control option, a particular mode, or the display path.
1. Update before measuring
Install the newest system and game versions, restart, and then test. Comparing an old build with a current build can produce a false conclusion about latency.

Perform the same action—opening a menu, aiming, or moving through a familiar checkpoint—in handheld and docked modes. Record whether the delay is present in both. If it appears only docked, note the display and connection context in the report; if it appears only handheld, record the same detail. Do not describe either result as a confirmed fix.

3. Separate gameplay delay from menu delay
Check buttons in menus as well as during gameplay. Delay in menus suggests a broader input path or software issue; delay only during a scene may be tied to that scene or its performance. Write down whether every button is affected or only aiming, movement, or a specific action.
4. Disable controls you are not using
Temporarily turn off optional motion or mouse-style controls when you are not using them, then repeat the same test. The Switch 2 Edition advertises Joy-Con 2 mouse controls; a report should state whether those controls were enabled, disabled, or never selected. This comparison identifies a possible interaction but does not establish that the option is defective.
5. Keep the test reproducible
- Use one controller configuration for the first comparison.
- Test the same mission or menu before and after each single change.
- Record whether the delay is constant, intermittent, or limited to demanding scenes.
- Capture the game version, console mode and storage location.
If latency remains after updates and the controlled comparisons, report the evidence to Feral instead of repeatedly reinstalling. A clear “handheld and docked, menus and gameplay, motion controls off, system-memory install” description is more actionable than “controls feel slow.”
Recovering missing or corrupted saves
Protect the original data first. Do not delete save data as an initial response to a missing slot, unreadable file or crash during loading. Updating and restarting can resolve a temporary read problem, while deleting the save can eliminate the only copy.

Start with Nintendo’s non-destructive checks
- Install all available system and game updates.
- Restart the console normally.
- Attempt to load the affected profile or slot once, noting the exact message and time.
- If the title supports Nintendo Switch Save Data Cloud and you have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, check whether a backed-up save can be downloaded. Cloud recovery is available only where the title supports the service and a backup exists.
Do not overwrite a potentially good cloud backup with a newly created blank save. Confirm which copy is current before choosing any download or replacement command.
If only one mission or slot fails
Leave the original data in place, avoid repeated attempts that might overwrite progress, and document the mission, slot, checkpoint, error text and whether another profile loads normally. A single-slot failure is different evidence from a game-wide inability to read saves and should be reported as such.
Nintendo’s no-save-delete initialization path
When a persistent software error remains, Nintendo documents an option to initialize the console without deleting save data, followed by redownloading software to system memory. Use this only when Nintendo’s documented error procedure applies, read every confirmation screen, and maintain a separate backup where the console and title support one. This process is more disruptive than a restart or redownload, so it belongs after those steps, not before them.
When cloud recovery is unavailable
If Absolution does not support Save Data Cloud for the affected build, or no usable backup exists, there is no evidence in the published material of a special Absolution save-repair utility. Do not download unofficial “fixes” or delete files based on forum instructions. Preserve the console state and contact Feral with the exact sequence; support may need the original data intact to investigate.

How to report an unresolved defect to Feral
Feral’s official Absolution support page is the correct route for a title-specific defect. Contact support after completing the safe checks, or sooner if a repeatable save failure needs the original data preserved. Include:
- Console model: Nintendo Switch 2.
- Game edition and the exact version number shown by the console.
- Region and whether you own the original Switch release or the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack.
- Mission, checkpoint, profile and save slot involved.
- Handheld or docked mode, controller type, and whether optional motion or mouse-style controls were enabled.
- Whether the software is installed in system memory or on a microSD card.
- The exact error text, what happened immediately beforehand, and whether the issue reproduces after a clean restart.
- Which Nintendo steps you completed: updates, restart, data check, redownload and any applicable cloud-save or no-save-delete procedure.
Describe one reproducible sequence per report. For example: “After the current update, system-memory installation, handheld mode, and motion controls disabled, loading Mission X from Slot Y crashes at the same checkpoint.” That format lets support separate a program-file problem from a save-specific or mode-specific issue.
Understanding the upgrade and launch versions
Version confusion can look like a technical fault. Existing Nintendo Switch owners can claim the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack free from launch through 4 November 2026; Feral lists $9.99, £4.99 or €4.99 after that period. New buyers can purchase the Switch 2 Edition for the launch-period prices listed in the table above. Verify that the title shown in the eShop and on the console matches the edition you intend to test, then record the installed version when contacting support.

The announced Switch 2 Edition includes Contracts mode on release day and visual and control changes that are not present in the original Switch build. A performance or input report should therefore identify the edition rather than simply saying “Switch version.”
A practical decision path
- Before launch: treat reports as provisional because the retail Switch 2 Edition is not yet available. Do not delete data or buy hardware based on an unverified forum claim.
- After a first crash or lag event: restart, update both system and game, and reproduce the event once.
- After repeated crashes: run the corrupt-data check, then redownload. Test system memory if the game was on microSD.
- For input delay: compare handheld and docked modes, menus and gameplay, and optional motion or mouse-style controls. Record the outcome rather than assuming one setting is the cure.
- For a missing save: update and restart, check a supported Nintendo Switch Online cloud backup, and keep the original data. Use Nintendo’s no-save-delete initialization only when its documented procedure applies.
- For a repeatable fault after these steps: stop making destructive changes and send Feral the version, mode, storage, mission and exact reproduction details.
This process distinguishes a temporary console state, damaged program files, a mode-specific symptom and a possible title defect while minimizing the chance of losing progress.
