Shader compilation can also make a first PC launch take longer than later sessions. The detailed fixes below come mainly from The Coalition’s open-beta FAQ, so treat those issue-specific notes as beta-era guidance and check official support for current instructions.
Gears of War: E-Day entered worldwide early access on October 1, 2026, with its worldwide launch scheduled for October 6, according to Xbox Wire. It is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. Early-access patches may change the fixes below; platform-specific beta FAQ remedies are identified as such rather than presented as guaranteed fixes.
Start with the checks most likely to affect crashes and stuttering
Confirm the game is installed on an SSD
The Coalition’s open-beta FAQ says an SSD is required and mechanical hard drives are unsupported. It warns that an HDD can cause severe loading problems, missing assets, stuttering, and crashes. On PC, check which drive contains the game and move or reinstall it to an SSD if needed. The FAQ is beta-era guidance; check current support for any updated storage requirement.
Update the graphics driver and check the live requirements
Install the latest driver available for your exact GPU from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel, then restart the PC and try launching again. In the beta FAQ, The Coalition listed NVIDIA driver 610.74 or newer, AMD 26.7.1, and Intel 101.8864 as requirements, and said the game would not launch with older NVIDIA drivers. Those are dated beta values, not confirmed current launch requirements. Check the current official support page rather than treating them as a live compatibility list.

Change one thing at a time
Before changing settings, record your platform, storefront or launcher, GPU model and driver version, and the exact error or point at which the failure occurs. Try one relevant change, then retest. That makes it easier to distinguish a launch failure from a runtime crash or recurring stutter, and to tell whether the change helped.
If the game will not launch or crashes at startup
Xbox PC app: LowLevelFatalError
The beta FAQ directs Xbox PC app players who see LowLevelFatalError to Microsoft’s Gaming Services Repair Tool. This is a beta FAQ remedy, so follow current support guidance if the tool or instructions have changed.

Recording with OBS
The beta FAQ reports that OBS versions older than 29.0.0 could crash the game and recommends OBS 29.0.0 or newer. If you use OBS and crashes coincide with recording, update it and test again. This reported issue is beta-era; it does not establish that OBS causes unrelated crashes in the current build.
Antivirus blocks the game executable
The beta FAQ reports that Norton or Comodo could block game executables. If your security software flags the game, verify that the file is genuinely part of your installation and use the security product’s allow-list or exception feature for that verified executable. Do not leave antivirus protection disabled as a routine workaround.

Intel Arc takes a long time to start
The beta FAQ says Intel Arc graphics cards recompiled shaders on every launch, extending startup time. A long wait during shader work is not, by itself, proof of a crash. Microsoft separately describes Advanced Shader Delivery for E-Day; Arc support can depend on the specific hardware and driver, so do not assume every Arc system receives precompiled shaders.
If shader compilation is slow or gameplay stutters
Tell first-launch shader work apart from recurring stutter
Shader compilation can take time on an initial launch, while stutter that repeatedly interrupts gameplay has other possible causes. Microsoft’s DirectX team says Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) supplies precompiled shaders with the game download to reduce CPU work at launch and runtime-compilation stutter. Microsoft reports approximately 95% lower shader compilation time for E-Day when ASD is working. That is Microsoft’s reported comparison, not an independent benchmark or a promise of a 95% frame-rate increase.

Microsoft says the stated ASD experience requires Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher and supported hardware and drivers; it also says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading the game to experience ASD. See the DirectX team’s explanation for the feature and its conditions. Without ASD, Microsoft says compilation may take several minutes on a typical PC, compared with seconds when ASD is available. ASD addresses shader compilation; it is not a general fix for crashes or every kind of stutter.
Intel Arc A580 or B580: check ReBAR
The beta FAQ says performance may be significantly reduced on Intel Arc A580 and B580 when Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is disabled. Check whether ReBAR and Above 4G Decoding are enabled in your system firmware, using your PC or motherboard maker’s instructions. Firmware menus and procedures vary; do not change BIOS settings based on a guessed menu path.

Check whether the stutter follows a long session
For Xbox Series S players who encounter hitching after a long Horde Siege session in Quality Mode, the beta FAQ recommends fully quitting and restarting the game. This note applies to that reported console scenario, not to all stuttering.

The beta FAQ listed third-party controller recognition on Steam as an issue under investigation. Some users reportedly had success connecting the intended controller before launching and unplugging USB-connected mouse and keyboard devices. Treat that as a reported beta workaround, not a guaranteed fix; reconnect peripherals afterward if needed.
Beta network errors and account mismatches
The following remedies are tied to specific error codes in the beta FAQ. Do not apply them to an unrelated crash or connection problem.
drone-snub: the FAQ says the required port changed to UDP 3074 and advises ensuring required ports are open.quentin-ephyra: disable Xbox Quick Resume.bryce-vigilorgill-gutpuncher: synchronize Windows date and time in Date & Time settings.- Online play blocked by an account mismatch: the FAQ says signing into the Xbox app with one account and Microsoft Store with another may prevent online play. Use the same account in both. This note concerns online access, not necessarily a local crash.
When to contact support
If the SSD and driver checks do not resolve the issue, or the symptom does not match a beta-era note above, check The Coalition’s support site and the Xbox service status page. Include your platform and launcher, the exact error text or code, when the problem happens, and the troubleshooting steps already tried. That information helps distinguish a game issue from a launcher, hardware, or service problem.
