Start by separating a server problem from a problem on your PC. In FreeStyle Football 2, Index: 400 means the servers are not live or are undergoing maintenance, so check the game’s official community announcements before changing Windows or network settings. The game selects a server automatically; in a party, matchmaking follows the party leader’s region, and cross-region parties can add latency.
For input, the PC version supports both keyboard/mouse and controllers. A known-good XInput-compatible USB controller is the quickest way to isolate a hardware or mapping problem. Crash and Windows 11 advice needs more caution: a January 6, 2025 notice about Windows 11 version 24H2 concerns the related Street Basketball client, not confirmed Football 2 behavior.
Use this triage order first
Do not begin with a reinstall when the game may be unavailable for everyone. Match the symptom to the narrowest likely cause, then change one variable at a time so you can tell what helped.

What “Index: 400” means
Joycity’s Football 2 FAQ defines this message as appearing when “the servers are not yet live or are currently undergoing maintenance.” Treat it as a service-availability message, not evidence that your installation, router, or controller is defective.

- Write down the time, your region, and whether the message appears immediately or after a maintenance announcement.
- Check the official Football 2 Discord and the publisher’s social channels for a maintenance window or regional outage.
- Ask a friend in another region whether the same message appears. This is a useful comparison, but it does not override an official status notice.
- Wait for the announced service window to end before reinstalling, deleting temporary data, or changing network settings.
If the channels show no notice and the error persists well beyond the stated window, contact current Football 2 support with the exact message, time, region, account identifier, and screenshots. The published FAQ does not describe a local setting that can bypass Index: 400.
Connection errors, server regions, and latency
You cannot choose a Football 2 server manually
The Football 2 FAQ says the game automatically selects an optimal server. There is no documented in-game server picker to force a particular location. Repeatedly changing DNS, using a VPN, or editing configuration files therefore does not follow a published Football 2 procedure and can make diagnosis harder.
Party leader geography controls matchmaking
When you play with others, the party leader’s region is used for matchmaking. A party that spans continents may connect to a location that is reasonable for the leader but distant for another member. Distance, routing, and congestion can then produce latency even when every player’s local connection is working normally.

- Run one match or connection test while playing alone.
- Have a different friend create the party and repeat the test.
- Compare which party leader produces the more stable session.
- For a regular group, choose the leader whose region gives the best compromise, rather than expecting an individual server-selection control.
This experiment cannot prove a particular route is defective, but it separates party geography from a problem that follows your own PC or connection.
Wi-Fi and wired testing
The older FreeStyle 2 technical FAQ recommends checking connection stability and trying a direct LAN connection for network-malfunction errors. That advice was written for Street Basketball, not specifically for Football 2, so use it as a general isolation step rather than a Football 2 guarantee.
- Play one session over your normal Wi-Fi connection and note disconnects, freezes, or delayed input.
- If practical, connect the PC directly to the router with Ethernet and repeat at a similar time of day.
- Do not change several router settings between tests; otherwise you will not know whether the physical connection or a configuration change affected the result.
- If only one household device has trouble, investigate that PC. If several devices lose connectivity together, document the broader outage for your internet provider.
How to troubleshoot crashes and unexpected shutdowns
“Crash” can mean several different failures: a message before login, a launcher that never finishes loading, a desktop exit during play, or a complete Windows restart. Record the exact stage, whether an error appears, and whether the same account works on another PC. That information is more useful than treating every exit as the same defect.

Safe first pass for a Football 2 client problem
- Close the client normally if possible. Sign out and relog. The legacy technical FAQ specifically recommends relogging for Bugtrap-type failures.
- Restart Windows. This clears a stuck launcher or input process and gives you a clean comparison; it is not a claim that every Football 2 crash has a single Windows cause.
- Try the launcher with administrator rights. The legacy FAQ recommends running the launcher as administrator for loading or Bugtrap problems. Use this as a diagnostic step and return to normal launching if it makes no difference.
- Clear temporary internet files when loading hangs. The same legacy FAQ lists clearing temporary internet files for loading problems. Use the cleanup option provided by the current launcher or Windows; do not delete game saves or unrelated personal files.
- Check the network path. If the symptom is a network-malfunction error rather than a desktop crash, test a stable connection and, where possible, direct LAN as described above.
- Reinstall only after simpler steps fail. The legacy procedure calls for deleting the old client before reinstalling when errors persist. Confirm that the current Football 2 launcher’s support instructions do not require a different uninstall method, and preserve any settings or local data you need before removal.
These steps come from documentation for the older Street Basketball client. They are reasonable general troubleshooting ideas, but they are not proof of a Football 2-specific fix. If a current Football 2 support article gives different paths, follow that article.

On January 6, 2025, the FreeStyle 2 Operations Team reported that some users were experiencing frequent unexpected client shutdowns on Windows 11 version 24H2 and recommended postponing that update if possible while the issue was investigated. The notice concerns Street Basketball. It does not establish that Football 2 has the same defect.
If your Football 2 exits began immediately after moving to Windows 11 24H2, record the before-and-after dates and test on another supported Windows installation if you legitimately have access to one. Do not downgrade Windows solely because of this related notice without checking Microsoft’s support guidance, your organization’s update policy, and current Football 2 announcements. Report the version correlation to support instead of presenting it as a confirmed cause.

What to do when the desktop exit is silent
The published Football 2 material does not provide a current crash-dump procedure, required graphics-driver versions, registry edits, or a universal remedy for silent desktop crashes. Avoid downloading unofficial “fix” packages or applying registry changes that promise to cure every crash. If the launcher offers a built-in file-repair or log-collection function, use it and attach the resulting files to a support request; no such Football 2 procedure is specified in the available FAQ.
For a useful report, include:
- Windows edition and exact version, including whether it is Windows 11 24H2.
- The Football 2 launcher or client version shown on your machine, if displayed.
- The exact time and stage of the failure: launch, login, loading screen, match, or exit.
- Whether the failure reproduces after a relog and a full Windows restart.
- Whether keyboard/mouse and a controller behave differently.
- Your region, party-leader region when relevant, and whether another connection or PC changes the result.
- A screenshot of any message, including Index: 400, without exposing passwords or personal tokens.
Fixing controller problems on PC
What the official FAQ confirms
Football 2 supports PC keyboard/mouse controls and also confirms full controller support. That confirms the input methods, not compatibility with every third-party controller, wireless adapter, remapping utility, or unusual driver stack. No official model-by-model compatibility table is published in the available material.

- Connect one known-good XInput-compatible USB controller directly to the PC.
- Disconnect or switch off other gamepads, virtual controllers, and input devices for the test. Repeatedly changing devices can obscure which device the game detected.
- Before launching Football 2, confirm that Windows sees the controller. Press
Win+R, enterjoy.cpl, and check that the device appears and that its buttons and axes respond in the Windows test panel. - Launch the game with the controller already connected. Test movement and several buttons in a low-risk menu or practice context before joining a match.
- Close the game, reconnect the original controller by itself, and repeat. The comparison tells you whether the fault follows the game, the PC, or a particular device.

Do not assume that a controller marketed for another console will present an XInput interface on Windows. The Football 2 FAQ confirms controller support in general, but it does not promise every third-party model or mode.

Separate service, network, operating-system, and hardware causes
Use the following decision path instead of applying every remedy at once:
- Message check: Index: 400 sends you to official service announcements first.
- Geography check: If only parties spanning regions suffer latency, compare party leaders because their region controls matchmaking.
- Client check: If the game exits or hangs, relog, restart Windows, and use the legacy cleanup steps only as qualified general guidance.
- Operating-system check: If shutdowns correlate with Windows 11 24H2, report that correlation; do not call the related Street Basketball notice proof of a Football 2 bug.
- Input check: Compare keyboard/mouse with one known-good XInput USB controller and avoid switching devices mid-test.
- Escalation: When the symptom remains reproducible, send support the version, timing, region, exact message, connection test, and controller comparison.
Limits of the published troubleshooting information
Current Football 2 material does not publish a crash-dump workflow, a controller compatibility matrix, a required driver-version list, latency thresholds, or a universal fix for silent desktop crashes. Consequently, a third-party controller recommendation, registry edit, driver rollback, or precise latency number should not be presented as an official Football 2 remedy without additional evidence.
The most reliable approach is therefore diagnostic: identify whether the service is available, account for automatic regional matchmaking, reproduce the client failure with a clean restart, and isolate input hardware with a known-good XInput device. Keep each test separate and preserve the exact error text for support.
