If Fortnite will not let you buy an outfit, first identify where you tried to buy it and what happened: the item may no longer be available, a payment may have been declined, or a completed purchase may not have reached the account you are using. The right fix depends on whether you used Fortnite’s Item Shop, the Epic Games Store, or a console or other platform store.
Start with the store and the failure stage
Note the exact error message and check your transaction history before retrying a payment. A listing that cannot be purchased, a declined charge, a completed charge with missing V-Bucks, and a refund that has not appeared are different problems.

| The outfit is listed but purchase fails | Web Item Shop availability and listing end date | Epic Games Support for the Item Shop |
| Payment was declined | Exact error message and payment details | Epic for its specified error; your bank or payment provider if needed |
| You were charged but V-Bucks or content is missing | Transaction history, Epic account ID, and purchase platform | The platform that processed the purchase, or Epic for an Epic Games Store order |
| You want to undo an Item Shop purchase made with V-Bucks | In-game or web Item Shop return options and eligibility | Epic’s Item Shop return process |
For a purchase processed by PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or another third-party store, use that platform’s support and refund process rather than expecting Epic to handle the platform transaction. Epic’s Item Shop cancellation and refund guidance and its End User License Agreement describe the distinction.
If the web Item Shop will not sell the outfit
A web Item Shop result can remain searchable after an item is no longer available to buy. Reload the page, return to the main Item Shop, and search for the item there. Check the bottom of its listing for the end date. Epic says the shop rotates; an item that has left the shop may return, but there is no guaranteed return date.

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
These steps apply to the web Item Shop error described by Epic, not every in-game, console-store, or payment failure. See Epic’s guidance on an item shown on the Fortnite Item Shop website that cannot be bought and errors purchasing a cosmetic from the web Item Shop.
If V-Bucks or a purchased item is missing
- Refresh the game. Restart Fortnite, then check the balance or item again.
- Check the purchase account. Sign in on the platform used to buy the V-Bucks or content. Compare the Epic account ID in your Fortnite profile with the account used for the purchase.
- Check the transaction record. Review the purchase history for the store that processed the transaction. If there is no transaction record, Epic says the transaction did not go through; check with your bank or payment provider before attempting another purchase.
- Allow for console delivery time. For some PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo purchases, Epic says the purchase may take up to two hours to appear. Verify that the console’s date and time are correct and that you are using the right Epic account. If it remains missing after that period, contact the console platform’s support team.
- Give support the order details. For an Epic Games Store purchase that is still missing, submit an Epic support request with the order number, amount, and platform. For a console-store purchase, contact that platform. V-Bucks cards require code redemption; buying a card alone does not add its balance.
Some V-Bucks balances are platform-specific rather than part of the shared balance, so check the balance on the platform where you purchased them. Epic’s guides explain missing V-Bucks after purchase and console purchases that do not appear in Fortnite.

If the payment was declined
Epic’s “for your protection” decline message
For the specific Epic error saying a transaction was declined “for your protection,” check that the payment details are correct, the payment method is active, and sufficient funds are available. Epic advises waiting at least 24 hours before trying again. If the same issue continues, try another payment method or ask your bank or payment provider whether it blocked the attempted transaction. This advice is for that stated error, not a diagnosis for every Item Shop problem. Epic’s transaction-declined guidance
Epic Games Store network error
If the Epic Games Store displays “An error occurred while trying to process your request. Please check your network connection and try again,” Epic advises restarting your router or modem and device, then retrying. If the error persists, try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. This specific network guide does not establish that a general Fortnite cosmetic-purchase failure is caused by your connection. Epic’s network connection error steps

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

How to cancel or return an Item Shop purchase made with V-Bucks
Cancel within 24 hours
Epic says most eligible Item Shop purchases made with V-Bucks can be canceled within 24 hours if the cosmetic has not been used or equipped in a game mode. Epic describes the feature this way: “You can use Cancel Purchase to cancel or undo a Fortnite Item Shop purchase made with V-Bucks if it was bought by mistake.” Open the in-game or web Item Shop return screen and check the purchase before confirming.
Use a Return Ticket for an eligible older purchase
If the 24-hour cancellation option is no longer available, an eligible Item Shop purchase from within the previous 30 days may be returned with a Return Ticket. Epic says accounts start with three tickets, receive one every 365 days, and can hold no more than three.

Epic lists exclusions, including passes, pass levels, premium reward tracks, gifted purchases, Level Up Quest Packs, certain Save the World items, and developer-made island purchases. Bundles must be returned together. Battle Pass-earned rewards cannot be returned through Cancel Purchase or Return Tickets; Epic says a return error can indicate that the item is ineligible. Check the return screen and Epic’s guidance on cosmetic return errors before assuming a purchase qualifies. For the full rules, see Epic’s cancellation and refund instructions.
If refunded V-Bucks do not show up
Epic says refunded V-Bucks usually return within a few minutes. Refresh the Item Shop balance, confirm you are checking the account where the refund was processed, and check whether the V-Bucks went to a platform-specific balance. Restart Fortnite if the amount is still not visible. Epic’s steps for a cosmetic refund with missing V-Bucks
