First identify which problem you have: a web Item Shop listing that will not sell may be an item that has left the current rotation, while V-Bucks that have not appeared require account, platform, and transaction checks. The fixes differ, and the store that processed a purchase determines who can investigate it.

If the web Item Shop will not complete your purchase

Epic says the message “Something went wrong. We were not able to complete this transaction, please try again later” can appear when an item is no longer available, even if it remains searchable. The message “We were unable to complete the transaction, please try again” can likewise mean the item has left the current rotation. In that case, retrying payment will not make the item available. Epic Games Support explains the rotation error.

  1. Refresh the web Item Shop and check whether the item is still in the live listings.
  2. Open the item description and check the end date shown near its bottom.
  3. If the shop page still appears stale, check again later or try the in-game Item Shop.

Shop availability changes with the rotation; a listing or end date does not establish when, or whether, the item will return.

If purchased V-Bucks are missing

Do these checks before attempting another purchase. Epic says V-Bucks are added when you sign in to Fortnite on the same platform where you made the purchase. Epic’s missing V-Bucks guidance and transaction-history instructions cover the relevant checks.

Fortnite eGift Card
  • Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
  • Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
  • If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
  • Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
  • Redemption: Online
  1. Restart Fortnite to refresh the displayed balance.
  2. Sign in to Fortnite on the platform where you bought the V-Bucks. For example, a PlayStation purchase requires signing in on PlayStation.
  3. Check that the Epic account linked to the purchase is the account shown in your in-game profile.
  4. Consider whether the platform participates in Fortnite Shared Wallet. Balances do not transfer across every platform.
  5. Review Transaction History. If there is no purchase record, Epic says the transaction did not go through; check with your bank or payment provider before trying again.

A V-Bucks card is a separate case: redeem its code. A regular V-Bucks purchase is not delivered as a redemption code and cannot be gifted to another account.

If a refund was processed but the balance has not updated

Epic says returned V-Bucks usually appear within a few minutes. Refresh the Item Shop balance, confirm you are using the account on which the refund was processed, inspect In-Game Currency balances, and restart Fortnite. If the original purchase used a platform balance such as Nintendo, the return may go back to that platform balance rather than the Shared Wallet. See Epic’s guidance on V-Bucks missing after a refund.

If you want to undo an Item Shop purchase

Cancel Purchase is available for 24 hours after purchase only if you have not used or equipped the item in any game mode. After that period, an eligible item bought within the past 30 days may be returned using a Return Ticket. These are different options: cancellation has a shorter window and a use restriction, while a ticket-based return depends on the item and ticket eligibility.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
  • Redemption: Online

Epic lists exclusions that include passes, gifted purchases, some packs, and developer-made island purchases. Accounts start with three Return Tickets, gain one every 365 days if below the maximum, and can hold up to three. Epic says Support cannot grant extra tickets. Use the current in-game or web self-service return flow; navigation labels can change between versions. Check Epic’s purchase return and refund policy and current return instructions.

When these checks do not fit your error

The guidance above addresses web-shop rotation errors, missing or returned V-Bucks, and eligible Item Shop returns. It does not establish a universal remedy for every payment decline or platform-specific error code. If your message differs, note its exact wording and the platform used, then contact that platform or payment provider, or Epic if the purchase was through Epic Games Store.
