If FireShot captures a page but its PDF export dialog never appears, first check FireShot’s save-dialog preferences, then compare the behavior in a fresh Chrome profile or another browser. The reported Chrome problem does not have a confirmed universal fix, so treat these as diagnostic steps rather than guaranteed repairs. If FireShot does not capture the page at all, or creates a blank or unusable PDF, that is a different failure to troubleshoot.
First identify what is failing
Try capturing one ordinary webpage and note exactly where the process stops:
- No capture: FireShot does not produce a screenshot or open its editor/history. The PDF export dialog is not yet the issue.
- Capture succeeds, but no PDF dialog appears: This matches the symptom described in a FireShot forum report posted September 23, 2025. The user reported Windows 10, Chrome, and FireShot 2.1.2. FireShot’s Chrome Web Store listing identifies a newer version, 2.1.4.18, updated May 24, 2026; the older report does not establish that the problem persists in that version.
- A PDF appears but is blank, incomplete, or corrupted: Record that specific result. It is not the same failure as a missing export dialog, and the available report does not establish a fix for it.
Check FireShot’s save-dialog preferences
Look in FireShot’s installed-version menu or help for options that control whether it asks for a destination or displays a save dialog. A 2016 FireShot Pro manual says the destination prompt can be configured and documents a setting under which the save dialog appears only when Shift is pressed. That manual is old, so menu names and behavior may differ in the current extension; use it as a clue, not as confirmation that the setting is present or causing your problem.
- Open FireShot’s menu or settings and inspect its save or destination options.
- If you find a setting to suppress the dialog or show it only with Shift, change it so the dialog appears normally, or try holding Shift during the save action if that matches the installed version’s help.
- Capture an ordinary page again and use FireShot’s PDF export command to see whether the dialog appears.
Restart Chrome, then isolate the browser context
Close and reopen Chrome, then repeat the same capture once. Restarting is a low-cost check, not a FireShot-specific fix confirmed by the available report.

If the dialog is still missing, compare the same page and capture action in a fresh Chrome profile or another browser, if available. In the 2025 forum report, the user said the dialog appeared in Edge but not Chrome. That single observation makes browser or profile behavior worth isolating; it does not prove that switching browsers will fix the issue for other users.
A general Chrome Help Community discussion suggests broad diagnostic steps such as restarting or updating Chrome, testing another profile, checking extensions, and trying another print-to-PDF path. These are user-generated suggestions, not an official FireShot remedy. If you try them, change one thing at a time and repeat the same capture so you can identify whether the behavior changes.

- Your operating system, Chrome version, and FireShot version.
- The page and exact FireShot capture action you used.
- Whether the capture appears in FireShot’s editor or history.
- What happens after you select PDF export, including whether any dialog flashes or an output file is created.
- Whether the same steps behave differently in another Chrome profile or browser.
The cited forum report does not include a developer diagnosis or a confirmed resolution, so these reproducible details are more useful than assuming a particular root cause.

If your goal is to capture a webpage as a file rather than repair FireShot specifically, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request API returns an image or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use the tools take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
