If your DJI Osmo Pocket 3 horizon is tilted, drifts, or the footage shakes, first identify whether the camera is actually misbehaving or the image is showing motion blur. Then check startup movement, firmware, gimbal mode and attachments before calibrating it on a level surface. DJI says the Pocket 3 uses three-axis stabilization but does not stabilize vertical (Z-axis) movement; impact damage, a failed self-check, or a fault that persists after these checks calls for DJI diagnosis.
First identify what kind of instability you’re seeing
A tilted horizon or drift while the camera is stationary points to a different issue than blur that appears only during movement, in dim light, or when the gimbal approaches its movement limits. DJI lists skew, drift and gimbal shaking as distinct symptoms in its Osmo Pocket 3 support guidance.
- Horizon tilted or drifting while stationary: Check startup movement, the selected gimbal mode, attachments and firmware, then calibrate.
- Blur or ghosting mainly in dim scenes: The image may be blurred by a slow shutter rather than a gimbal fault.
- Jitter while walking or moving vertically: The Pocket 3 does not stabilize vertical/Z-axis movement, so some up-and-down motion may remain.
- Sudden problem after a drop or collision: Treat it as possible damage, especially if the gimbal cannot complete its self-check or vibrates sharply.
Check startup, firmware, mode and attachments
Keep the camera still as it powers on
Power on the Pocket 3 while stationary and wait 1–2 seconds before moving it. DJI advises recalibrating if the camera moves during startup, since movement then can leave the gimbal skewed.
Update firmware through DJI Mimo
Connect the camera to the DJI Mimo app and follow its firmware update prompts. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 downloads page lists the User Manual v1.0 dated 2023-10-25 and Release Notes dated 2025-08-26. Check the app or DJI’s current support information for the firmware available to your device; a specific current version is not established here.

Remove gimbal attachments and check the mode
Remove third-party films or accessories attached to the gimbal, then check whether the symptom changes. You can recenter the gimbal or run auto tune as appropriate. For a horizon that looks unlevel, make sure the camera is not in FPV mode: DJI says its “horizontal” reference in FPV is relative to the camera body, not necessarily a level horizon.
Calibrate the gimbal safely
Calibration requires the camera to remain still. On the device, use this path:

- Place the Pocket 3 vertically on a level, steady surface.
- Confirm the prompt if shown, and do not touch or move the camera until calibration finishes.
DJI also describes calibration in DJI Mimo under Gimbal and Handle Settings. Follow the app prompts and keep the camera steady throughout.
Fix shaking by its likely cause
Movement limits or a motor overload warning
The gimbal has mechanical movement limits; it is not designed to rotate without restriction. Keep the camera’s movement within those limits. If the screen displays DJI’s warning “Gimbal Motor Overloaded”, calibrate the gimbal and retry.

Visible debris around the gimbal
Power off the camera and visually inspect the gimbal axis arm. DJI advises cleaning off visible debris. Do not pry into the gimbal assembly or force its axes.
Blur in low light
In a dim scene, auto exposure may slow the shutter to gather more light. A slow shutter can make movement appear as blur or ghosting even when the gimbal is functioning. Hold the camera steadily, add ambient light, or try Low-Light Video mode. You can also set Exposure to M (manual) and choose a faster shutter; DJI gives 1/200, 1/400 and 1/500 as examples, not universal settings. A faster shutter may make the image darker unless there is enough light.

Vertical or Z-axis jitter
DJI states that the Pocket 3 provides three-axis stabilization and does not support vertical/Z-axis stabilization. If up-and-down movement is the problem, slightly tilt the handle forward so the tilt motor can help reduce the vertical jitter. This does not add a fourth stabilization axis.

For persistent skew, DJI asks users to keep the camera stationary for 1–2 seconds after power-on, use Follow mode, and center a distant vertical object precisely in the frame. Include original footage, the firmware version, the test time and the device log with the request so DJI can assess the symptom.
