First, check whether you are troubleshooting the correct build. The official Steam listing for Cup of Tales currently says Coming soon and that the game is not yet available. The listing credits Red Ego Games and Omar Bik as developers and Eastasiasoft Limited as publisher. If you have a demo, preview, press build, or another test version, its behavior may not match a future full release.

Check the published PC requirements
Compare the computer on which Steam is running with the minimum configuration shown on the Steam listing. These are a baseline, not a performance guarantee; a machine that meets them can still have a driver, Windows, Steam, or build-specific problem.

Run the safe launch-repair sequence
Perform these steps in order. After each step, try starting the same build again and note what changed. This prevents several simultaneous changes from hiding the cause.
1. Restart Steam and Windows
- Exit the game, if it is still shown as running.
- Close Steam from Steam > Exit, not only by closing the Library window.
- Wait a few seconds, start Steam again, and try Cup of Tales.
- If the behavior is unchanged, restart Windows and test once more.
Restarting Steam and the computer is a first-line launch step in general Steam troubleshooting. It clears a stuck client process without changing game files or settings. If Steam says the game is running after its window disappears, wait for the process to clear or restart Steam before starting another test; otherwise two launch attempts can produce confusing results.

- Open Steam > Library.
- Right-click Cup of Tales and choose Properties.
- Open the Installed Files section. On clients that use the older wording, this may appear as the local-files tab.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and wait for Steam to finish.
- Allow Steam to reacquire any file it reports as missing or damaged, then start the game again.
Verification is a general Steam repair action. It does not establish that Cup of Tales has a known corrupted-file defect, and it does not replace a title-specific patch or developer fix. Record whether Steam downloaded anything and how much; “no files reacquired” is still useful information when comparing later tests.
3. Follow Steam’s launch-state troubleshooting

No window appears
Confirm the build and the published requirements first, then complete the restart and file-verification steps. If Steam still returns to the Library without showing a window, record whether it briefly displays “Preparing to Launch,” whether the Play button changes to Stop, and whether an error message appears. Those details distinguish a Steam launch-state problem from a game process that exits immediately.
Do not assume that a missing window proves a graphics incompatibility. The available information does not identify a Cup of Tales startup error, required launch option, or supported workaround for that symptom. Note exactly when the close occurs: before a menu, while loading, or after entering gameplay. Repeat the test after a restart and after file verification. If the crash happens only in a demo or preview, include that channel in any report; the current store status does not support treating it as a public-release crash pattern.

Do not delete configuration folders or saves just because a crash occurs after a menu. No Cup of Tales save location or reset procedure is documented. Preserve the current state until you have a title-specific instruction, especially if the build contains progress you cannot restore.
The game keeps closing after several attempts
Stop changing settings at random. Write down the build, Windows version, hardware listed in the requirements check, the point at which the process closes, and whether verification found anything. - Open Library, right-click Cup of Tales, and choose Properties.
