If Hot Wheels Infinite Rush freezes, lags, takes an unusually long time to load, or will not start on Nintendo Switch 2, work through Nintendo’s recovery sequence in order: restart the console, update the console and game, scan the installation for corrupted data, then delete and redownload the game if necessary. If the problem occurs only when the game is installed on a microSD Express card, test another card or install the game in system memory.
Use a forced shutdown only when the Switch 2 is completely unresponsive. Formatting a microSD Express card is a last-resort storage test because it permanently erases the card’s screenshots and videos, although Nintendo says save data is stored in system memory.
Choose the fix that matches the symptom
| What you see | First action | Data risk |
|---|---|---|
| The game is slow, frozen, or the console still responds | Perform a normal restart, then update the system and game | No save-data deletion |
| The console does not respond to controls | Hold POWER for 12 seconds to force it off, then turn it on | Unsaved in-game progress can be lost |
| The game starts but behaves abnormally | Scan the title for corrupted data | The scan itself does not delete the save |
| The scan reports corruption or launches keep failing | Delete the software and redownload it with the purchasing Nintendo Account | The software is removed; save data is stored separately in system memory |
| The problem appears only from a microSD Express installation | Try another compatible card or install to system memory | Formatting a card permanently erases its files |
The sequence is deliberately progressive. Start with the reversible steps and move to deletion or card formatting only when the earlier checks do not resolve the fault.

Restart Nintendo Switch 2 safely
Use a normal restart when the console still responds
- Press and hold the POWER button for three seconds.
- Select Power Options.
- Choose Restart.
A restart clears a temporary software state without removing the game or its save data. Use it after a freeze that eventually releases, after unusually long loading, or when menus and other games also feel sluggish.
#1 Best Overall
- Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
- Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
Force a shutdown only for a non-responsive console
- Press and hold POWER for 12 seconds.
- Release the button after the console shuts down.
- Press POWER again to start the Switch 2.
Nintendo documents this 12-second shutdown for a console that will not respond. It is not the preferred way to end a normal play session, because any unsaved progress in the current session may be lost.
Install every available Switch 2 and game update
An outdated system or game build can produce startup failures, freezes, or abnormal performance. Update both components before deleting anything.
Update the console software
Open System Settings from the HOME Menu and use the console’s system-update option. Let the Switch 2 complete the update and restart if it requests one. Keep the console connected to power during a lengthy update and do not interrupt it.

- From the HOME Menu, highlight Hot Wheels Infinite Rush without starting it.
- Press the + or − button.
- Select Software Update.
- Choose Via the Internet.
Start the game only after the update finishes. If the title was already current, continue to the corruption scan rather than repeatedly launching the same installation.
Scan the game for corrupted data
Nintendo provides a built-in scan for downloaded software. Use it when Infinite Rush opens inconsistently, closes during loading, displays unexplained errors, or continues freezing after updates.

- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Manage Software.
- Select Hot Wheels Infinite Rush.
- Choose Scan for Corrupted Data.
Allow the scan to finish before opening the game. If it identifies damaged data, follow the console’s repair or redownload instruction. If it finds no corruption but the same failure continues, proceed to a full delete-and-redownload cycle.
Delete and redownload Infinite Rush
Repeated launch failure after a restart, updates, and a clean scan points to an installation problem that those checks did not repair. Nintendo’s documented remedy is to remove the software and download it again.
Remove the installed software
- Open System Settings.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Manage Software.
- Select Hot Wheels Infinite Rush.
- Choose the option to delete the software and confirm.
Read the confirmation screen carefully so you delete the game software rather than unrelated content. Deleting the software removes the installed program and its downloaded files; it is not the same as deleting the save data.
Download it again with the purchasing account
Redownload the title from the Nintendo eShop using the Nintendo Account that purchased it. If several accounts are present on the console, verify the account before starting the download. A different account may not show the entitlement needed to download the game.
Leave enough free system or card storage for the complete installation. Once the download and installation finish, launch Infinite Rush before restoring other downloads or moving the installation, so you can tell whether the clean copy starts normally.

Check whether a microSD Express card is the trigger
A damaged, incompatible, or unreliable microSD Express card can cause a game to load slowly, freeze, or fail to start when the same title works from system memory. Nintendo specifically recommends testing another card or removing the card and downloading the software directly to system memory.
Use system memory as the control test
- Close Infinite Rush and power the console down normally.
- Remove the microSD Express card according to Nintendo’s hardware instructions.
- Download or move the game to system memory.
- Launch the game without the card installed.
If the game works from system memory but fails from the card, the storage path is the leading suspect. Keep the working system-memory installation while you test the card; this avoids reintroducing the suspected fault during diagnosis.
Test another microSD Express card
Use a card that is explicitly compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 and install Infinite Rush on it. A successful launch from the replacement card indicates that the original card, rather than the game account or console software, may be responsible. Card capacity, brand, and advertised speed do not by themselves prove compatibility; verify that the listing identifies the microSD Express standard for Switch 2.
Format the card only after backing up media
Nintendo warns that formatting a microSD Express card permanently deletes its data. Copy screenshots and videos from the card before formatting. Nintendo also states that save data is stored in system memory, so formatting the card does not erase the game’s save data.
After the backup, use the Switch 2’s card-format function, then download Infinite Rush again. Treat formatting as a destructive diagnostic step, not routine maintenance. If a freshly formatted card still produces the same failure, test another card or remain on system memory rather than repeatedly formatting the same media.

Fix long loading and lag without deleting the game first
Long loading and lag can be temporary software states, an outdated build, corrupted installation data, or storage trouble. Work through the following order:
- Restart normally through Power Options > Restart.
- Install the latest Switch 2 system update.
- Update Infinite Rush through Software Update > Via the Internet.
- Run Scan for Corrupted Data.
- If the installation is on a microSD Express card, test system memory or another compatible card.
- Delete and redownload the game if the problem remains.
Change one major variable at a time. For example, do not format a card and delete the game simultaneously if you need to identify which action resolved the issue. Keeping a short note of the storage location, update status, and result after each step makes a later support request more useful.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do when Infinite Rush will not start
The HOME Menu works, but the game will not launch
Do a normal restart, update the console and game, and run the corruption scan. If the scan does not solve the launch failure, delete the software and redownload it with the purchasing Nintendo Account. Test system memory if the game was installed on a microSD Express card.
The entire console is stuck
When the HOME button and other controls do nothing, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force a shutdown. Start the console again and retry the normal update and scan steps. Do not repeatedly force-shut down a console that is responding; use the three-second restart path instead.
The game fails only after moving storage
Return the title to the storage location that worked, then test the other location separately. A successful system-memory launch narrows the fault to the card or card installation. A failure in both locations makes a software update, corrupted-data scan, or redownload more relevant.

When to contact official support
If the Nintendo recovery sequence and storage tests do not resolve the problem, use the official Hot Wheels Infinite Rush Helpcenter from Plaion. Its support site provides common solutions and a Create a ticket route when no existing entry addresses the issue.
Include details that let support reproduce the failure:
- Whether the console froze, lagged, loaded indefinitely, or refused to start.
- Whether the Switch 2 responded to controls or required the 12-second shutdown.
- The system-software and game-update status.
- Whether the corruption scan found anything.
- Whether the game was installed on a microSD Express card or system memory.
- Whether another card or a fresh redownload changed the result.
Do not format additional cards or repeatedly delete the software while waiting for a response; preserve the setup that demonstrates the problem.

Do not confuse Infinite Rush with other Hot Wheels compatibility notices
Nintendo publishes compatibility information for Switch games, but notices concerning HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED are separate from Hot Wheels Infinite Rush. Those documents cannot establish that Infinite Rush has the same bug, received the same patch, or needs the same workaround. For Infinite Rush, rely on the title’s own Helpcenter and Nintendo’s general Switch 2 downloaded-software procedures.
Quick Recap
