Final Fantasy VII Revelation is unreleased as of 19 October 2026, so no hard-mode fix can honestly be presented as tested in the shipped game. The reliable approach is to separate confirmed design information from community speculation, then verify each resource rule, encounter modifier and New Game Plus carryover behavior on your platform and patch before spending time on a build.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that some Weapon battles occur in the main story while others are optional side content, and that the optional fights are intended to be hard enough to require a higher level than the one used to finish the story. That distinction explains the likely source of many “difficulty spikes,” but exact levels, item rules, farming routes and hard-mode modifiers remain unconfirmed.
What is actually known about Revelation’s hard content
A September 2026 developer interview confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation was still in development and had not released. There is therefore no final, authoritative list of hard-mode modifiers, resource drops, healing restrictions, upgrade costs or New Game Plus carryover rules.
Naoki Hamaguchi has described an endgame that is substantially different from the hard-mode replay structure used by the previous two games. He also separates Weapon encounters into two groups:

That statement is the strongest current guidance for planning around difficulty spikes. It does not establish a level number, a damage multiplier or a required party composition.
Why exact hard-mode solutions are not available yet
Community pages already describe a supposed ruleset involving damage changes, altered ATB behavior, item restrictions, Mythril Cores, Ribbons and New Game Plus carryover. None of those details has been confirmed in official release documentation. They may describe an early build, an incorrect interpretation or a different difficulty setting.

Do not treat a forum table or wiki infobox as a verified mechanic until the release build demonstrates it. In particular, avoid committing to a farming route, a “no items” assumption or a permanent equipment plan before checking the in-game menus and patch notes.
Use this launch-day troubleshooting method
When the game ships, collect enough information from one failed attempt to distinguish a genuine system problem from an underprepared optional encounter. Record the following before changing your build:
- Identify the environment. Write down platform, region, game version, date and selected difficulty. Balance changes can alter income, enemy tuning and encounter behavior.
- Name the activity. Note the chapter, quest, battle name and whether it is marked as main story, side content or an endgame challenge.
- Log the resources. Record your level, equipment upgrades, materia or equivalent abilities, currency, consumables and healing charges before and after the attempt.
- Describe the failure. Separate incoming damage, a failed mechanic, an exhausted resource, a time limit and a party-death spiral. Each points to a different remedy.
- Repeat one variable at a time. Change a single weapon, materia, accessory, party member or tactic, then test again. This prevents a lucky clear from hiding the real requirement.
This process creates a reproducible answer instead of a one-off claim. If a patch changes the fight, your notes also show which version produced the earlier result.

How to diagnose a resource shortage
“I ran out of resources” can mean several different things: the game may provide too little income, a reset may not replenish stock, a failed attempt may consume items, or the encounter may be balanced around a different source of recovery. Until those rules are confirmed, use a resource ledger rather than assuming a farm exists.
1. Define the scarce resource
Write the exact name and maximum capacity shown in the interface. Distinguish consumables, currency, upgrade materials, ability charges and any resource that refills automatically. A generic label such as “MP” or “shards” is not enough if several systems use similar terminology.
2. Map every source and sink
During normal play, note where the resource is awarded: battles, quests, chests, shops, challenge rewards, chapter completion or a repeatable activity. Then record every cost, including fast travel, crafting, upgrades, retries and optional unlocks. A shortage is fixable only when you know whether income or spending is the bottleneck.
3. Test reset behavior safely
Before committing rare materials, create a manual save or use the game’s confirmed checkpoint system. Complete a low-risk activity, reload or reset it, and check whether the reward and the resource cost return. Do not assume that a chapter replay, a failed challenge or a defeated boss restores stock; verify the result in the inventory screen.
4. Measure one complete cycle
For a repeatable activity, log starting resources, rewards, time, consumables used and ending resources. A route is useful only if the net gain remains positive after travel, healing and failed attempts. If the game provides no repeatable positive cycle, the intended solution may be conservation, progression or a different difficulty rather than farming.
5. Protect resources while learning
- Use inexpensive attempts to learn attack patterns before spending rare items.
- Keep a reserve for the encounter’s confirmed recovery requirement once the release rules are known.
- Do not buy an upgrade merely because it is available; compare its benefit with the cost of future retries.
- Capture screenshots of inventory totals before and after a failed attempt so an unnoticed consumption rule is visible.
How to handle a sudden difficulty spike
A spike is not automatically a bug or an unfair damage modifier. In Revelation, the director’s comments make optional Weapons the first category to check when a fight feels dramatically harder than the preceding story.

Classify the fight before changing difficulty
Check the quest marker, objective text and unlock conditions. If the encounter is optional, leave it, advance the story or complete available upgrades, then return with a stronger party. If it is mandatory, investigate the intended counter mechanics and the level or upgrade gates shown by the game.
Check progression, not just character level
Level is only one possible gate. Compare weapon or armor upgrades, ability unlocks, materia development, accessory effects, party limit resources and any system-specific progression shown in the menus. A higher level will not solve a fight that requires interrupting a cast, exploiting a stagger window or resisting a status effect.
Identify the encounter’s counter
On the first attempt, observe which attacks cause the largest losses and what the boss does immediately before them. Look for pressure, stagger, elemental, positional, status or timing interactions that the tutorial or battle report documents. Equip one confirmed counter at a time so you can tell whether it changes the outcome.

If a single telegraphed attack defeats the party despite full health, the problem may be a missed dodge, guard, interrupt or resistance. If every hit is consistently overwhelming and your attacks barely move the gauge, progression or equipment may be the issue. Keep these diagnoses separate; grinding will not repair a mechanic you are failing to answer.

Use this table as a decision aid, not as a substitute for the shipped quest text. The release may expose more than two categories or label them differently.

- Progression: Confirm the recommended or implied level, weapon upgrades and ability unlocks.
- Party: Verify that every active character has a role for damage, pressure, stagger, support or recovery.
- Counters: Equip the elemental, status, guard, interrupt or positional responses demonstrated by the encounter.
- Recovery: Check healing access, revive availability and whether those supplies refill between attempts.
- Loadout: Save a baseline setup so you can revert after testing a counter.
- Resources: Confirm the cost of retrying, crafting, traveling and changing equipment.
- Failure behavior: Determine whether a defeat consumes items, quest resources, time-limited buffs or challenge entries.
- Patch state: Record the exact version before comparing your result with another player’s guide.
If one item on this list cannot be verified in the game, mark it unknown rather than filling the gap with a community assumption.

Some games charge resources on entry; others charge them only when an item is used, and some restore everything after a failed challenge. Revelation’s rule is not confirmed before release. Test it with a low-cost attempt and inspect your inventory after the defeat screen, reload and checkpoint return.
If retries do consume supplies, establish a learning loop: first attempt with the minimum viable loadout, review the defeat, then spend resources only after identifying the mechanic that killed you. Keep a separate save before the experiment if the game permits it. Do not publish or rely on a “free retry” claim until two controlled checks produce the same result.

Community discussions claim that certain equipment, materia, currency, quest flags, difficulty unlocks, Mythril Cores and Ribbons may carry into New Game Plus. Those lists are provisional. The release build could reset, partially carry or conditionally unlock any of them.
After starting New Game Plus, compare a pre-transfer inventory capture with the new file. Check each category separately:

- Characters, levels and experience.
- Weapons, armor, accessories and upgrade states.
- Materia, abilities and mastery progress.
- Currency, crafting ingredients and consumables.
- Quest completion, collectibles and challenge records.
- Difficulty modes, endgame access and unlock flags.
Also test whether a carried item is usable immediately or locked behind story progression. A listed carryover is not equivalent to unrestricted access.

Common mistakes that make hard mode feel worse
Trusting an unverified modifier
Claims such as “hard mode doubles damage” or “ATB is reduced by a fixed percentage” need an official statement or controlled in-game comparison. Without that evidence, describe the observed behavior and version instead of assigning a number.
Grinding an optional fight too early
An optional Weapon may intentionally sit above the campaign’s power curve. If the encounter is not required, returning after endgame progression is a more reliable fix than repeatedly spending scarce supplies.
Changing the whole party after every loss
Large loadout changes hide cause and effect. Keep a baseline save and alter one counter at a time.

Comparing different patches or regions
A guide created on one platform or version may describe different tuning. Record those details whenever you copy a recommendation.
Assuming a familiar system returned unchanged
Revelation is intended to have an endgame unlike the prior games’ hard-mode replay structure. Familiar rules from Remake or Rebirth are useful hypotheses, not proof.
How to publish or evaluate a post-launch fix
A trustworthy troubleshooting entry should state the encounter, difficulty, platform, version, region, date and test conditions. It should give the starting and ending resource totals, explain whether the attempt was main story or optional content, and identify the exact counter that changed the result. If a claim cannot be reproduced after a patch, label it as version-specific rather than silently presenting it as universal.
No authoritative statistic currently establishes hard-mode completion rates, resource drop rates or the frequency of difficulty spikes. Avoid percentages or “average player” thresholds until the developer or repeatable testing supplies them.

You cannot yet fix a confirmed Revelation hard-mode resource rule because the game and its final documentation are not available. Prepare by tracking the release version, classifying each Weapon as story or optional, testing resource consumption and reset behavior, and treating every community modifier or New Game Plus list as unverified. Once the game ships, this method will show whether a shortage needs farming, conservation, progression or a mechanical counter—and whether a difficulty spike is intentional endgame design rather than a broken balance setting.
