If Burning Sword: Death Sun crashes or will not launch, first confirm that you have an available Steam build and that your PC meets the game’s published requirements. Then try Steam’s general launch checks: update Windows and graphics drivers, verify the installed game files, and close non-essential software. These are platform-level steps, not fixes confirmed by the game’s developer for a known bug.
Check whether your build is available
At the time Steam’s store page was checked on October 3, 2026, it described the full game as “Coming soon” and said it was not yet available on Steam. A Steam Community announcement dated September 18, 2026 said a new demo and update were on the way, but did not give a release date. Check the current Steam store listing and Steam Community page to confirm which demo or build you can access; an announcement of a demo does not establish when the full game will launch.
Before troubleshooting, note whether the problem is with a publicly available demo or another installed build. Record your Windows version, CPU, graphics card, RAM, free storage, exact error text, and the build or demo version if shown. Advice for an older demo or a different platform may not apply to the build you are running.
Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam’s listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit or later and DirectX 12. Compare your system with the listed minimum requirements before trying more involved changes:

These figures are from the Steam store listing. Its SSD notes are reproduced as written; their relationship to the separate 50 GB available-storage requirement is not explained there. Meeting the minimum does not prove that a crash is hardware-related, and falling short does not identify the cause of a particular error. Steam notes generally that PCs at or near a game’s requirements can encounter launch or performance problems.
Try Steam’s general launch checks
Steam recommends these steps for games that will not start. They are sensible first checks, but Steam has not documented them as fixes for a confirmed Burning Sword: Death Sun defect.
- Restart the PC. After restarting, try launching the installed build once and note the exact error or change in behavior.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Install available updates for your version of Windows and your GPU, restart if prompted, then retry the game.
- Verify the game files in Steam. In Steam, open Library, right-click Burning Sword: Death Sun, select Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish before launching again.
- Close non-essential software that may interfere. Exit optional background applications, then retry. Change one thing at a time so you can tell whether the symptom changes.
Steam’s general guidance is in Games do not run after ‘Preparing to Launch’. If the steps do not resolve the problem, Steam recommends contacting the game’s developer for more detailed support.
If Steam says the game is unavailable on your platform
The Steam message “Game is not available on your current platform” indicates that the game is not supported on the current operating system, according to Steam Support. Check the game’s OS and hardware requirements. The store listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit or later; the surfaced requirements do not establish support for other operating systems.

What to do about a black screen
No current official explanation or game-specific workaround for a black screen was established in the available Steam material. A Steam Community discussion titled “Stuck in loading PC + Steamdeck” is an individual report, not evidence that the current Windows build has a widespread black-screen bug. A developer-side comment in that older discussion said the team did not then have a Steam Deck available for testing. That does not verify a Steam Deck or Windows fix for a later build.
For a black screen, use the same low-risk checks above and include the symptom in a support request. Do not assume a particular display setting or launch command will solve it unless the developer documents that remedy for your build.
Avoid unverified launch-command fixes
Do not add commands such as -autoconfig, -safe, or -dxlevel based on generic Steam display guides. Steam says the relevant display troubleshooting options are for Valve games and have no effect on other Steam games. No Burning Sword: Death Sun-specific launch command was verified.
