If a Browse AI robot stopped working after its target site was redesigned, first inspect the failed task to see whether it encountered a changed page structure, an expired login, a security check, a loading problem, or a temporary site outage. If the page or extracted data changed, retrain the robot in the workflow that matches its interactions, review the results, and run a test task before relying on scheduled runs.
Diagnose why the robot stopped
A redesign can change layouts, class names, or HTML, but a failed task does not by itself prove that selectors are the problem. Browse AI also identifies expired login sessions, new CAPTCHA or bot-detection measures, changes in how content loads, and temporary website problems as possible causes. Open the failed task and inspect its error details and the page state it encountered before changing the robot. See Browse AI’s failure troubleshooting guide.
- Page layout or captured fields changed: Retrain the robot against the current page.
- The page requires an account: Check whether the session expired; refresh session cookies if needed.
- A CAPTCHA or security measure appeared: The failure may be a new access restriction rather than a bad extraction selection.
- Content is missing or incomplete: Check whether the site now loads it later, lazily, or through AJAX.
- The target site is unavailable or behaving unusually: Check again before retraining; a temporary issue may not call for a configuration change.
Sites with frequent A/B tests, complex JavaScript applications, changing consent notices, or new authentication and security flows can require further adjustments. Browse AI cautions that significant structural changes may still need manual intervention; adaptation is not a guarantee that a robot will continue working without maintenance. Retrain in Table Studio
- Open the robot’s table.
- Add or adjust the column for the data you need to capture.
- Use Design Mode to describe the data to extract.
- Preview the extraction against the current page, then save the robot when the result is correct.
Retrain in Robot Studio
- Open the robot’s detail page, then open Settings.
- Select Re-train robot and choose Robot Studio.
- Update the data selections or field names to match the redesigned page.
- Finish recording, review the extraction, and save when it captures the right data.
Use the Chrome extension when appropriate
If the robot was originally trained with the Chrome extension, select that option for retraining. Browse AI also suggests trying the extension if Robot Studio gets stuck during retraining or asks you to retry.
Refresh session cookies when login access fails
For a robot that reads a logged-in page, an expired session may be the cause even if the site itself has not changed. Open the robot’s Settings, choose Update Session Cookies, follow the refresh steps, then test access again. Cookie notices can introduce a separate problem: a notice may move, disappear depending on region, or vary between designs. If it does not block the data you need, train without clicking it so the robot does not depend on that changing control. For account-based access, Browse AI recommends logging in in the browser and using its session-cookie login option during training. Test the output and check dependent workflows
A task that completes is not necessarily a recovered robot: confirm that the values and fields you need are present and correct on the redesigned page. Run a test task after retraining. If the page’s data structure changed substantially, adjust every affected capture and check any integrations that expect the old field names or output shape.

Browse AI says successful retraining changes capture settings while preserving the robot’s history, prior runs, and connected workflows; scheduled runs use the new settings. That does not guarantee downstream systems interpret changed fields correctly, so verify those integrations when the output has changed. The details are in Browse AI’s retraining guide.
Prevent redesigns from becoming silent failures
Browse AI’s website monitoring can track captured text, lists, or HTML, as well as visual changes through screenshot monitoring. Monitors can run on configurable schedules, with email notifications when changes occur. Monitoring may help you spot changes, but it does not ensure a robot will survive a redesign unchanged. - When training or revising a robot, select multiple example elements where relevant.
- Test the extraction thoroughly before depending on scheduled monitoring.
- Review failure notifications promptly and check usage reports.
- For sites that change often, plan to inspect captures and retrain when the page or its data changes.
