If photos from your foldable phone look blurry, first clean the camera glass, remove anything covering it, and retake a well-lit, steady shot. Then check whether the problem is limited to a close subject, a moving subject, one camera, or a particular mode. Foldable camera features and controls vary by model, so use the phone maker’s instructions for exact settings.
First, identify what looks blurry
Open the saved photo rather than judging only the camera preview. Notice whether the entire frame is soft, the subject is out of focus while the background is sharp, or blur appears only in one area. Also note which camera and mode you used—for example, rear wide, ultra-wide, zoom, cover selfie, or inner selfie. These clues help distinguish a smudge or focus-range issue from movement or a problem that recurs with one camera.
Try the quick physical checks
- Clean the camera glass. Use a clean, soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, or smudges. Samsung recommends this method for Galaxy camera lenses: Samsung camera-quality guidance.
- Remove possible obstructions. Take off the case and any camera lens cover or protector that could block the lens. Inspect the glass for scratches. Samsung warns that a camera protector or lens cover can cause focus problems or distort light; Google also advises checking for an obstructing case or scratches: Google Pixel camera troubleshooting.
- Retake the same scene. Keep the subject, distance, and lighting as similar as possible so you can tell whether cleaning or removing an obstruction helped.
Reduce blur from movement or low light
Camera shake and subject movement can both soften a photo. Samsung puts it plainly: “Moving the camera while taking a photo, or taking a photo of a moving subject can very easily create blur.” Samsung’s explanation of blurry Galaxy photos
- For a moving subject, add light if you can, hold the phone steady, and take another frame. More light can help the camera capture the scene without blur.
- For a dark, static scene, try Night mode if your model offers it. Keep the phone still through the capture; mode names and behavior differ by device.

Refocus on close subjects
A subject may be too close for the selected camera to focus sharply. Move back, reframe, and tap the subject on the screen to focus if your camera app supports tap-to-focus. Avoid high zoom on a nearby subject; zooming does not solve a camera’s minimum-focus-distance limit.

Some supported Galaxy phones have Focus enhancer, which can switch to the ultra-wide camera for a close shot. This is model-specific, and the minimum focusing distance also varies by camera and device. Check the instructions for your exact model rather than applying a distance listed for another Galaxy: Samsung focus and camera-quality guidance. Google documents tap-to-focus and manual lens selection on certain Pixel phones, including Pixel Fold: Google Pixel camera guidance.
Check whether one camera or mode is affected
Take comparable photos with the available cameras and modes—for example, rear wide versus ultra-wide, or a standard photo versus Night mode—while keeping the scene and lighting similar. Foldables may let you frame from the cover or main screen and may have front and rear cameras, but their hardware, controls, and supported modes are not interchangeable.

Samsung’s Z Fold7 guide covers using the camera from the cover or main screen and describes Photo, Pro, Night, and other modes. Samsung’s general Z Fold camera guide describes Ultra Wide, Wide, and Zoom options while noting that modes vary by model: Z Fold7 camera guide and Z Fold camera modes. Pro controls such as ISO, exposure, white balance, and color tone are available only where the model supports them; they are not a universal fix for blur.
Restart and update if the blur persists
- Restart the phone, then test the camera again.
- Install available camera-app and system updates.

When to contact the manufacturer
Seek model-specific support if the same camera remains blurry after cleaning, removing obstructions, trying sensible distance and lighting, and restarting or updating. Before contacting support, record the phone model, which camera and mode you used, the subject distance and lighting, and whether other camera modes work. A single blurry image does not by itself prove a hardware defect. Google notes that if other apps also crash when accessing the camera, hardware may be at fault; persistent symptoms warrant its troubleshooting and support steps.
