If The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered became blurry, left ghost trails, shimmered, or loaded textures late after Update 1.1 on Nintendo Switch 2, treat it first as a possible game-side regression. Install every available game update, compare Performance and Quality modes, disable Motion Blur while testing, toggle Screen Space Reflections (SSR) for reflective-surface shimmer, and retest the same scene after a full restart. These steps can improve symptoms, but Bethesda has not confirmed a settings-based cure for the Update 1.1 problem. Reinstall the game if the issue continues, then contact Bethesda Support; send cartridge, download, dock, controller, or console-hardware problems to Nintendo Support.
Why Oblivion Remastered can look blurry on Switch 2
Bethesda acknowledges a visual-quality problem affecting some Switch 2 players after Update 1.1. Its support notice states: “We are investigating reports that some players on Nintendo Switch 2 are experiencing increased image blurring, ghosting, and reduced visual quality in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered after installing Update 1.1.” Bethesda also describes reports of reduced sharpness or detail and flickering or instability.
That wording matters because it separates a possible rendering regression from a defective television or Switch 2 screen. It also means the publisher has not promised that changing one option will restore the pre-update image. There is no authoritative published figure for the affected resolution, frame rate, blur severity, or the percentage of players seeing texture pop-in, so claims that the game now runs at a specific lower resolution or that every console is affected are not established.

Prepare a repeatable test before changing settings
Visual comparisons are easy to misjudge when the camera, lighting, or display mode changes. Establish a baseline so every adjustment has a meaningful before-and-after result.
- Choose one save and one location. Use the same character, weather, time of day, and camera route for each test. For texture and level-of-detail checks, you can revisit areas named in Bethesda’s patch notes, such as the rock formation outside Kvatch or the West Weald mountain approach from Skingrad.
- Record the symptom precisely. Note whether the problem is overall softness, a double image behind moving objects, crawling pixels on foliage or railings, late-loading textures, a visible level-of-detail swap, or intermittent flicker.
- Keep the display setup unchanged. Use the same docked or handheld configuration, television input, picture mode, and game settings while comparing one variable at a time.
- Capture a short reference clip if possible. A clip made from the same camera movement gives Bethesda a more useful reproduction than a general statement that the game “looks bad.”
Do not judge a change from a single turn of the camera. Repeat the same movement several times, because temporal reconstruction, reflections, and level-of-detail transitions can vary with motion and viewing angle.
Step-by-step troubleshooting sequence
1. Install every available game update
Start with the game itself, not the television. On Switch 2, highlight the game on the HOME Menu, open the software options with the + or − button, choose Software Update, and select the internet update option. Allow the download and installation to finish, then launch the game again.

This step is important because Bethesda’s Patch 1.0 notes document real texture and level-of-detail fixes: incorrect texture loading on a rock formation outside Kvatch, a level-of-detail light leak in the Hall of Epochs, and noticeable distant-mountain level-of-detail pop when approaching the West Weald from Skingrad. Those fixes demonstrate that some pop-in defects are patch-level bugs. They do not prove that every remaining texture delay or shimmer is fixed.
After updating, return to the exact baseline scene. If the visual defect is unchanged, continue rather than repeatedly downloading the same build.

2. Compare Performance and Quality modes
Open the game’s console display or graphics options and locate the documented Performance/Quality control. Test both choices in the same scene:
- Set the mode to Performance, perform the reference camera movement, and note sharpness, shimmer, ghosting, and traversal artifacts.
- Switch to Quality, repeat the identical movement, and record the differences.
- Keep the mode that best fits your priority, or return to your normal choice after the comparison.
Performance mode favors smoother operation, while Quality mode favors visual fidelity. Bethesda documents the control but does not claim that either setting permanently repairs the Update 1.1 blur or ghosting regression. A mode that looks cleaner in one location may show different artifacts elsewhere, so make the decision from several repeatable scenes rather than a single screenshot.
3. Turn Motion Blur off while diagnosing trails
Motion Blur is a documented console toggle. Disable it temporarily, then repeat a slow pan and a faster turn through the same area. Bethesda says that disabling Motion Blur makes moving objects easier to see.
If the double image behind a character, weapon, or passing object is reduced, you have removed a visibility effect that was amplifying the smear. That is not proof that the underlying Update 1.1 rendering problem is gone. If the world remains soft when the camera is still, keep Motion Blur off only if you prefer the clearer motion; otherwise restore your usual setting after testing.
4. Toggle Screen Space Reflections for shimmer
Screen Space Reflections (SSR) is another official console toggle. It affects reflections and can change how moving geometry, wet surfaces, and reflective highlights appear.

- Test a scene where the shimmer is easy to see, such as a reflective floor, water edge, polished object, or brightly lit moving surface.
- Observe the scene with SSR enabled.
- Disable SSR and repeat the same camera movement.
- Compare whether the crawling or flickering is reduced, unchanged, or merely replaced by a different reflection artifact.
SSR may improve a reflection-specific symptom, but Bethesda does not state that it resolves the broad Update 1.1 blur, ghosting, or reduced-detail report. Treat the toggle as a reversible diagnostic and visual preference, not a confirmed patch.
5. Fully restart and retest the same scene
Save your game, exit to the Switch 2 HOME Menu, close the software rather than leaving it suspended, and launch it again. Load the same save and repeat the baseline camera path before changing another option.
A restart gives you a clean test after an update or settings change. It cannot repair an incorrectly rendered asset that is consistently reproduced, but it can distinguish a one-session loading anomaly from a defect that survives a fresh launch. Write down the result instead of relying on memory.
6. Reinstall if the defect persists
Bethesda’s technical-support guidance recommends reinstalling the game for continuing technical issues. On the HOME Menu, open the game’s options with + or −, choose the software-management option to delete the installed game data, then redownload or reinstall the title from the same Nintendo account or use your physical Switch 2 copy. Follow the console’s prompts and allow all updates to complete before testing.
Reinstalling is most useful after you have confirmed that the problem survives an update, both display modes, the Motion Blur and SSR tests, and a full restart. If the same scene still shows the same defect after a clean installation, stop cycling through random settings and submit a Bethesda support ticket with your console model, game version, mode, toggles, location, save context, and reproduction steps.

Which troubleshooting option is appropriate?
| Action | Likely effect on blur or shimmer | Reversible? | Performance or fidelity trade-off | What it addresses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Install the latest game update | Can remove defects covered by a patch; effect on the Update 1.1 regression is not guaranteed | Not normally rolled back through the console | Uses download time and storage; no documented image-quality trade-off | Known patch-level texture and level-of-detail defects |
| Performance mode | May reduce traversal or motion artifacts in a particular scene; no confirmed cure for blur | Yes | Favors performance over visual fidelity | A documented rendering-mode choice |
| Quality mode | May make detail preferable in some scenes; can expose different motion or traversal artifacts | Yes | Favors visual fidelity over performance | A documented rendering-mode choice |
| Motion Blur off | Can make moving objects and trails easier to see | Yes | Removes a cinematic blur effect; no stated performance change | Perceived motion clarity, not the confirmed regression |
| SSR off | May reduce shimmer concentrated on reflections or moving reflective geometry | Yes | Reflections become less detailed or change appearance | Reflection-specific artifacts, not all image softness |
| Full restart | Can clear a one-session loading anomaly; persistent defects remain | Yes | No intended visual trade-off | Session state and retest consistency |
| Reinstall | Can correct damaged or incomplete local installation data; no guarantee for a game-code regression | Yes, by reinstalling | Requires a redownload or cartridge installation time | Persistent technical issues after ordinary troubleshooting |
What the documented patches do—and do not—say
| Patch | Date | Switch 2 visual changes documented by Bethesda | Implication for your troubleshooting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patch 1.0 | August 11, 2026 | Fixed incorrect texture loading on a rock formation outside Kvatch, an LOD light leak in the Hall of Epochs, and noticeable distant-mountain LOD pop approaching the West Weald from Skingrad | Update first; some texture and LOD symptoms are known patch defects |
| Patch 1.1 | September 17, 2026 | The published Switch 2 visual section lists a correction for the Lucky Old Lady statue animation in Bravil | The notes do not state that the broad blur, ghosting, or reduced-quality reports are fixed |
Bethesda’s dedicated support notice still describes the post-1.1 blur and ghosting issue as under investigation. The authoritative pages available for this problem do not publish a latest build number or confirm complete restoration of image quality. Consequently, a console showing the same artifacts after the newest available update is not evidence that you missed a hidden graphics option.

The entire image is soft, including when the camera is still
Run the update check, compare Performance and Quality, turn Motion Blur off, and perform a full restart. If static geometry remains visibly less sharp in both modes, the symptom matches the type of broad visual-quality regression Bethesda is investigating. Reinstall once, then document the result for Bethesda rather than repeatedly changing unrelated television controls.
Moving objects leave a double image or trail
Disable Motion Blur first and repeat a controlled pan. Improvement indicates that the effect was contributing to perceived smear. If trails remain with Motion Blur disabled, compare both rendering modes and record whether the artifact follows camera movement, character movement, or all motion. That distinction helps support staff reproduce it.
Only reflective surfaces shimmer or flicker
Use the SSR comparison in a repeatable reflective scene. If SSR off removes the shimmer but introduces an acceptable loss of reflection detail, leave it off as a practical workaround. If flickering appears across ordinary matte geometry as well, SSR is unlikely to be the sole cause; test the rendering modes and update status instead.

Textures appear late or swap visibly during traversal
Install every update and revisit the same route. Pay particular attention to the Kvatch rock formation, the Hall of Epochs, and the West Weald approach from Skingrad because Bethesda specifically documented fixes in those areas. A pop-in effect elsewhere may be a different defect, an expected level-of-detail transition, or part of the unresolved update regression; describe the exact location and movement path in your support report.

The game flickers or becomes unstable
Close and relaunch the game, then test the other Performance/Quality mode without changing several settings at once. If instability continues after reinstalling, contact Bethesda. If the symptom is accompanied by cartridge read errors, download failures, dock behavior, controller faults, or other console-wide hardware problems, use Nintendo Support instead.
When to contact Bethesda or Nintendo
Contact Bethesda Support for in-game rendering problems
Submit a ticket after the update, mode comparison, Motion Blur and SSR tests, restart, and (when necessary) reinstall. Include:
- That you are playing the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered.
- The installed game update, including whether the issue began after Update 1.1.
- Your docked or handheld setup and display mode.
- The exact symptom: blur, ghosting, shimmer, texture delay, level-of-detail pop, flicker, or instability.
- The location, save context, camera movement, and steps that reproduce it.
- Which Performance/Quality mode, Motion Blur state, and SSR state produced each result.
- Whether a full restart and reinstall changed anything.
Bethesda’s support article is the appropriate channel for a rendering regression that remains after those checks.
Contact Nintendo Support for platform, purchase, or accessory faults
Bethesda directs players to Nintendo for eShop purchase or download problems, cartridge read errors, dock issues, controller faults, and suspected console hardware trouble. A physical Switch 2 copy can replace a damaged cartridge, but buying another copy should not be presented as a graphics fix for a software regression. First establish whether the problem follows the game installation and reproduce it consistently; then send the evidence to the support team that handles the failing component.
Quick Recap
Practical decision checklist
- Updated? Confirm that the console installed every available game update.
- Compared? Test Performance and Quality in the same scene and with the same camera movement.
