Fix Battlefield 6 in this order: compare your PC with the official requirements, identify whether the symptom is stutter, a crash, a DirectX/device error, or an EA Javelin launch failure, then apply the matching repair. Restart the computer before diagnosing DXGI errors, repair corrupted files or clear the EA app cache for installation problems, verify files on Steam, and confirm that Secure Boot is enabled for the anticheat. No single setting fixes every case; the useful clue is the exact error, platform, GPU vendor, and point at which the failure occurs.
Start by matching the symptom to the likely fix
Battlefield 6 problems that look similar have different causes. A brief hitch during a match is a frame-pacing or simulation problem; a return to the desktop is a crash; a message containing DXGI_ERROR_ or DEVICE_HUNG is a graphics-device or driver path; and an EA Javelin message is an anticheat or launch prerequisite. Use the table to choose the first branch rather than changing several settings at once.
| What you see | First action | Important qualifier |
|---|---|---|
| Recurring hitches or uneven motion during Steam matches | Set the Steam friends-list status to Offline, then check for a current game update | Electronic Arts documented this as a temporary workaround for a Steam micro-stutter report after the Winter Offensive update on December 11, 2025. |
| Low simulation rate, rubber-banding, or hit-registration symptoms on a near-minimum CPU | Open the Performance Overlay and cap the frame rate in Advanced Graphics | EA associates the symptom with failure to maintain the 60 Hz simulation rate because of CPU load. |
DXGI_ERROR_ or DEVICE_HUNG |
Fully restart the PC, then update the GPU driver | EA says a stuck background application can cause this error. |
| Crash to desktop, unknown error, or installation failure | Restart, check updates, and repair the installation or clear the EA app cache | Use Steam’s file-verification flow when the game is installed through Steam. |
| “EA Javelin anticheat encountered an error” or the game will not launch | Run the EA app as administrator, launch from the EA app, and reinstall Javelin | Secure Boot is required for Battlefield 6 on PC. |
Check the official PC baseline before changing graphics settings
EA’s 2026 PC requirements are the first diagnostic check. If the machine is below minimum, lowering image quality cannot make the unsupported CPU, memory, GPU feature set, or storage requirement disappear. If it meets minimum but is close to the lower CPU tier, expect the simulation-rate guidance in the stutter section to matter more than visual presets.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA RTX 2060, AMD RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A380 | NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc B580 |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Free storage | 60 GB | 90 GB |
These are EA’s stated tiers, not a guarantee of a fixed frame rate. Record your CPU, GPU, installed RAM, Windows edition, free disk space, game platform, and GPU-driver version before troubleshooting. Those details distinguish a requirements limitation from a newly introduced software fault.

Fix Battlefield 6 stuttering and uneven frame pacing
Steam micro-stutter after the Winter Offensive update
On December 11, 2025, EA acknowledged “multiple reports of recurring micro stutter during matches for players on Steam” after the Winter Offensive update. The interim workaround was to set your online status to Offline in the Steam friends list. A hotfix was scheduled for December 12, 2025, so this workaround should be treated as an update-specific diagnostic rather than a permanent setting.
- Open the Steam friends list while the game is closed or at the main menu.
- Change your status to Offline.
- Play a representative match and note whether the recurring hitch disappears.
- Check Battlefield 6’s current update notes. If a later patch addresses the issue, install it and return the friends-list status to your normal setting to test whether the workaround is still needed.
If Offline status changes the behavior, include that result when reporting the issue. It identifies the Steam-social path as a useful reproduction clue even if the current build has changed.
Check CPU simulation load near the minimum specification
EA warns that PC players with CPUs near the minimum specification and low graphics settings can see rubber-banding, hit-registration problems, or latency-like symptoms when CPU load prevents the game from maintaining its 60 Hz simulation rate. Those symptoms can be mistaken for an internet connection problem because the character and hit feedback do not keep pace with input.

- Select Modify under Performance Overlay.
- Choose Simple so the overlay displays the relevant performance information without adding unnecessary detail.
- Play until the symptom occurs and watch the simulation-rate indicator.
- If the simulation rate drops while the CPU is heavily loaded, open Advanced Graphics and set a frame-rate cap. Choose a cap the processor can sustain instead of allowing the frame rate to run unbounded.
- Retest the same type of scene. A steadier cap is the desired result; a lower peak frame rate is expected when the cap is doing its job.
This test is most useful on systems near the minimum CPU tier. It does not prove that every form of stutter is CPU-related: a Steam-specific hitch that responds to Offline status points to a different path.
Resolve DirectX, DXGI_ERROR_, and DEVICE_HUNG messages
Restart completely before changing drivers
EA states that DirectX errors can indicate a driver issue and explains that the DXGI_ERROR_ and DEVICE_HUNG condition can occur when a background application is stuck. Use a full operating-system restart, not only a game relaunch, because the purpose is to clear the stuck process and reset the graphics stack.
- Save work in other applications and exit Battlefield 6.
- Restart Windows from the Start menu.
- After signing back in, launch only the game and the platform required to start it.
- Reproduce the error once. If it does not return, add background applications back one at a time rather than opening everything at once.
If the message returns after a clean restart, continue with the driver step and file repair instead of repeatedly rebooting.

Update the GPU driver, with AMD cleanup handled explicitly
Install the current driver for your GPU from its vendor. For AMD driver errors, EA specifically instructs players to install the latest driver and remove old drivers. Follow the vendor installer’s supported removal or clean-install option when available; do not leave an older package layered over the current one if the installer offers a documented way to remove it.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Capture the exact error text before replacing the driver. A driver change that alters the message or stops the crash is useful evidence; a driver change that does nothing means you should proceed to installation repair rather than repeatedly swapping versions. EA’s guidance does not establish a universal rollback, registry edit, or single driver version as the fix, so avoid treating those as official remedies.
Separate a DirectX error from a requirements mismatch
DirectX 12 is listed for both the minimum and recommended configurations. A machine that lacks the required graphics hardware or is below the listed Windows and memory baseline may fail for reasons that a driver reinstall cannot correct. Compare the actual GPU model and operating-system edition with the requirements table before spending time on more invasive changes.
Stop crashes, corrupted-file errors, and unknown errors
Restart and check the game state
For a crash to desktop, an unknown error, or an installation message, first restart the PC and the game. Then check whether the platform has a pending Battlefield 6 update and whether the failure began immediately after a game or driver update. A partially applied update or damaged download can produce a crash that looks like a graphics problem.
Repair through the EA app and clear its cache
EA’s troubleshooting guidance recommends repairing the game for corrupted-file and installation problems and clearing the EA app cache for download or unknown errors. Use the EA app’s built-in recovery and repair controls rather than deleting game files manually.
- Open the EA app and select your Battlefield 6 library entry.
- Open the game’s management menu and choose the available Repair command.
- Wait for the scan and replacement of damaged or missing files to finish before launching.
- For a download or unknown error, use the EA app’s Clear cache or App Recovery control, then sign in again if the app requests it.
- Start the game and test the same action that previously failed.
Repair can take time and may redownload files. Do not interrupt the process simply because the progress indicator pauses while the app checks large files.

Verify files when the installation is managed by Steam
Steam installations have their own integrity check. In the Steam client, open Library, right-click Battlefield 6, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files (the wording may vary slightly with the client version). Let Steam complete the check, apply any replacement download, and then launch again.
Do not run the EA repair and Steam verification simultaneously. Use the check belonging to the platform that owns the installed files, record whether it found anything, and then retest. If both checks complete without changes, a repeated crash should be investigated with the exact timing and error text rather than repaired indefinitely.

Confirm Secure Boot
EA says Secure Boot is required for Battlefield 6 on PC because EA Javelin Anticheat relies on it. If the game refuses to launch with an anticheat-related message, verify that Secure Boot is enabled in the system’s UEFI/firmware configuration. Windows can report the current state in its system information tools; changing firmware settings can affect other operating systems and boot configurations, so follow the motherboard or PC maker’s instructions for your model.

Secure Boot is a prerequisite, not a cure for every crash. A computer that launches successfully and later returns to the desktop should follow the crash and DirectX branches instead of changing firmware settings.
Use the EA app administrator and launch sequence
For “EA Javelin anticheat encountered an error,” EA recommends a specific sequence:
- Close Battlefield 6 and the EA app.
- Relaunch the EA app with Run as administrator.
- Start Battlefield 6 directly from the EA app, even if the purchase or installation is associated with another storefront.
- If the message remains, reinstall EA Javelin using the anticheat installer or reinstall option supplied with the Battlefield 6 installation.
- Restart Windows and test the launch again.
Launching through the EA app matters for this error path because it ensures the service and game are started in the sequence EA specifies.

Remove software named as disallowed
If the anticheat message says that disallowed software is running, close or remove the named program before retrying. EA’s examples include Interception, AutoHotkey, and ReWASD. Do not assume that every utility on the PC is prohibited; act on the exact program identified by the message, restart if the software installs a driver, and then launch from the EA app as administrator.

Write down whether the issue began after a Battlefield 6 patch, a Windows update, a GPU-driver update, or a change to background software. Timing does not prove causation, but it determines which official guidance to try first:
- A problem that appeared with the Winter Offensive update and occurs only in Steam matches fits the documented micro-stutter branch; test Offline status and check for the subsequent hotfix or newer update.
- A DirectX or device-hung message that appears after long sessions or after opening other applications fits the stuck-background-app explanation; perform a full restart before judging the driver.
- A crash that starts after a download or patch fits the repair or file-verification branch.
- A launch refusal that mentions Javelin fits Secure Boot, administrator launch, direct EA app launch, and anticheat reinstallation.
Keep the platform distinction visible in your notes. A fix that works on Steam does not establish that the EA app installation has the same fault, and vice versa.
When none of the fixes works
After the matching repair, restart, driver, or anticheat step has been completed, check the latest Battlefield 6 updates and known issue reports on the EA Forums. EA asks players to report issues that are not already listed and provides customer support for unresolved cases.
Give support a reproducible, platform-specific report. Include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The exact error text and any code, including the complete
DXGI_ERROR_orDEVICE_HUNGsuffix. - CPU, GPU, installed RAM, Windows edition, and available storage compared with the official minimum or recommended tier.
- GPU vendor and driver version, plus the date the driver was installed.
- Whether the installation is managed by Steam or the EA app.
- When the failure occurs: at launch, while joining a match, during a particular map or mode, or after a period of play.
- Whether a full restart, EA repair, cache clear, Steam verification, driver update, Secure Boot check, or Javelin reinstall changed the behavior.
- For stutter, whether Steam friends-list Offline status changed the symptom and whether the Performance Overlay showed a low simulation rate.
That information helps EA distinguish a known update regression from a damaged local installation, an anticheat prerequisite failure, a driver fault, or hardware below the supported baseline.
