If your Galaxy phone drains faster or runs hot after a One UI update, first stop charging it if it is uncomfortably hot, then check for follow-up updates and identify which apps or conditions are using power. Samsung’s directly post-update guidance covers One UI 7; menus and available options vary by model, carrier, software version, and country, so treat these steps as troubleshooting—not proof of a universal One UI bug.
What to do first if the phone is hot
If the phone is uncomfortably hot, especially while charging, disconnect the charger, close running apps, and let the device cool before charging or using it again. Avoid gaming, streaming, or other demanding tasks while it is abnormally hot, and keep it out of direct sunlight and hot surroundings. Stop using any damaged cable or adapter.
A phone and charger can become warm during charging, including during Super Fast or wireless charging. Persistent or unusual heat is different: Samsung advises letting the device cool, then checking the charging setup and seeking support if the problem continues. Its instruction is: “Disconnect the charger, and close all running apps. Wait until the device cools down, then start charging again.” Samsung India’s overheating guidance provides the charging steps.
Install follow-up updates and restart
- Open Settings and look for Software update or System updates. The label and location can differ by device and carrier.
- Install any available system update, then check for app updates in both Google Play and Galaxy Store.
- Restart the phone and see whether the drain or heat changes during ordinary use.
Samsung says updates issued after One UI upgrades can include patches, fixes, and stability or performance optimizations. Its One UI 7 software-update guidance recommends checking for updates; it does not establish that every One UI release has the same fault or fix.
#1 Best Overall
- Linear damping telescopic clip: easy to adjust, pay attention! Suitable for all types of mobile phones with a width of "6 to 7.5 centimeters". NEVEIKIA mobile phone cooling can cool down when connected to a power source.(Attention: It is best to remove the phone case when using it for a better experience!)
- Quick cooling: Dual engine, cooling principle is the same as a refrigerator, not ordinary fan cooling. It can cool your phone in "3 to 5 seconds", avoiding overheating and ensuring a stable live streaming or gaming experience.
- Dual power supply design: supports powering the radiator through a mobile phone, and can also be connected to an external power source for use; When connected to an external power source, it can provide stable power to both the radiator and the phone, avoiding interruption of heat dissipation due to insufficient power during long-term use and ensuring continuous and stable heat dissipation performance.
- Silent engine cooling: The fan with dual silent design can effectively dissipate air from all directions, providing stronger cooling effect without interfering with your games or Vlog programs.
- Expanded cooling area: Approximately 2.82x1.29 inches of extreme thermal conductivity cooling area, covering the CPU and battery module, protecting your phone from blackening or sudden shutdown.
Find what is using the battery
- Open Settings > Battery, or the equivalent battery page on your model.
- Review the battery graph and app usage details. Look for an app using unusually high power in the background, rather than assuming the update itself is the cause.
- Update an app that appears responsible. If the problem began after installing a particular app, test the phone in Safe Mode. If it works normally there, a downloaded app may be involved; remove recently installed apps one at a time and observe the result.
Samsung’s battery-drain guidance describes Safe Mode as a way to help determine whether a downloaded app is contributing. Menu names and access methods can vary, so use Samsung’s instructions for your specific Galaxy model if you need help entering Safe Mode.
Limit background activity selectively
After identifying apps with unnecessary background use, look for Settings > Battery > Background usage limits, or search Settings for “Background usage limits” or “sleeping apps.” Put only infrequently used apps to sleep. Deep sleep is more restrictive: those apps run only when opened, so they may not deliver messages or notifications reliably.

Keep messaging, security, accessibility, wearable, and other time-sensitive apps out of deep sleep when you rely on their background functions. Power saving can also limit background data, performance, display features, or notifications; check its effects before leaving it enabled. Samsung notes that these settings and their paths vary by model and software version.
Check signal, workload, and charging conditions
- Network: Weak or unstable signal can increase power use. Compare normal use in a location with a stronger, stable signal. Samsung also identifies 5G operation as a possible contributor, not evidence by itself of an update defect.
- Demanding activity: Gaming, video, and other intensive apps can raise battery use and heat. Temporarily reduce heavy use and screen brightness to see whether the symptoms ease.
- Unused connections: Temporarily turn off connectivity features you do not need, then restore them if the change does not help or you rely on them.
- Charging accessories: If heat repeatedly occurs while charging after the device has cooled, try a compatible Samsung-authorized charger and cable. Do not use damaged accessories or use the phone heavily while charging.
These comparisons help identify contributing conditions; they cannot establish that One UI is defective. Samsung’s guidance on battery drain and new-device use also discusses network and intensive-use factors. Its note about temporary optimization applies to the first days of setting up a new device, not a guaranteed recovery period after every major update.
