Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If audio starts in sync but gradually slips behind or ahead of the video, do not assume a single OBS sync-offset setting will fix it. First determine whether the mismatch grows over time and whether it is already present in the encoder output or a local recording. That distinction helps narrow the fault to capture or routing, encoding, or YouTube playback.
First, identify what kind of sync problem you have
Use a clear visual and audio cue—such as a clap, a spoken word, or a mouth movement—to compare the same moment at the start and later in the stream. Note whether the gap stays about the same or grows. This is a practical diagnostic method, not a YouTube-prescribed measurement procedure.
- Fixed offset: audio is already early or late at the start, and the gap remains roughly constant. This points toward a steady timing offset somewhere in the chain.
- Accumulating drift: audio begins close to sync, then becomes increasingly early or late. Look for a timing mismatch in capture, routing, encoding, or delivery rather than treating it as a simple fixed delay.
Write down what you observe and when. Avoid changing several settings at once; otherwise, you may hide the point where the mismatch begins.
Find where the drift first appears
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder output, local archive, CPU load, and internet connection. Comparing those points is a useful way to localize the problem, though it cannot guarantee a diagnosis.

- Check the source or encoder preview. Use a visible event paired with speech or another distinct sound. If the preview is already slipping, focus on the audio/video sources, routing, or encoding before investigating viewer playback.
- Inspect a local archive, if available. If the archive drifts too, the mismatch is likely present before or during the local encoding/recording path. Check source timing, audio routing, encoder errors, and system load.
- Compare with YouTube playback. If the preview and local archive stay in sync but viewer playback does not, investigate stream health, upload connectivity, and the delivery path. This comparison narrows possibilities; it does not by itself prove which component is responsible.
Keep the checks tied to the same moment in the program. A different playback point, an unrelated recording, or a change in the show’s source setup can make comparisons misleading.
Check encoder audio settings and YouTube errors
In YouTube Live Control Room, review stream health and any audio-setting error associated with the active stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo; it lists 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. The appropriate setting depends on the stream configuration and any error YouTube displays, so follow the message for your current stream rather than applying a sample-rate change universally. YouTube’s encoder settings and live-stream error guidance provide the platform details.

- The new generation of the songwriter's interface: Plug in your mic and guitar and let Scarlett Solo 4th Gen bring big studio sound to wherever you make music
- Studio-quality sound: With a huge 120dB dynamic range, the newest generation of Scarlett uses the same converters as Focusrite’s flagship interfaces, found in the world's biggest studios
- Find your signature sound: Scarlett 4th Gen's improved Air mode lifts vocals and guitars to the front of the mix, adding musical presence and rich harmonic drive to your recordings
- All you need to record, mix and master your music: Includes industry-leading recording software and a full collection of record-making plugins
- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
If Live Control Room reports an audio-setting problem, check the active encoder configuration for the reported sample rate, audio format, number of audio streams, and channel count. YouTube’s error guidance specifically calls out correcting a 44.1 kHz sample-rate error; it also identifies incorrect or multiple audio streams and unsupported channel counts as potential configuration problems. Correct the reported issue, then test again.
Check capture, routing, system load, and upload health
- Confirm source routing. Verify that the audio reaching the stream is the intended microphone or program mix and is not being duplicated or routed through an unexpected path. Compare the source with the encoder output to see where timing changes.
- Review encoder status and CPU load. Look for encoder errors or signs that the system is struggling while the stream is running. YouTube includes CPU load among the local conditions to check when live output is poor.
- Check outbound connectivity. If the local encoder output remains in sync but YouTube playback does not, test the upload connection and inspect stream health. YouTube recommends checking the internet connection as part of live-stream troubleshooting.
- Do not buy hardware without a matching diagnosis. An audio interface may be relevant if the problem is traced to capture or routing, but hardware alone is not an established fix for cumulative drift.
YouTube’s guidance is to check the chain and stream conditions; it does not prescribe a universal OBS control, sync-offset value, or clock-reset procedure for cumulative drift. Once you find where the mismatch starts, consult the documentation for the encoder or audio hardware involved rather than applying a guessed offset.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Preflight and monitor a long podcast stream
Before a continuous broadcast, test with representative speech and video movement, not just a static screen or a brief tone. Watch the Live Control Room preview, check stream health, and compare audio and video as the test continues. During the show, continue monitoring playback and, where practical, the local archive. YouTube recommends checking encoder output, the local archive, CPU load, and internet connection when diagnosing live-stream quality issues. See YouTube’s live-streaming troubleshooting guidance.
Repair an uploaded recording separately
If the issue is in an uploaded podcast file rather than the live broadcast, inspect the audio and video track durations in your editing software. YouTube advises matching the track durations when they differ. That addresses an unequal-duration recording; it is not a live-stream clock-correction method. See YouTube’s guidance for fixing audio or video problems in uploads.

Do not confuse stream latency with audio drift
Stream latency is the time between capture by the encoder or camera and presentation to viewers. It describes how far behind the live event viewers are, not whether audio gradually slips relative to video. YouTube notes that choosing lower latency may increase playback buffering. Changing the latency setting alone should therefore not be treated as a fix for progressive A/V drift. YouTube explains live-stream latency.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded podcast video playing as a continuous YouTube stream, StreamNeo is an alternative to leaving a local computer running. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
