First check whether the audio is out of sync by the same amount throughout the VOD or whether the gap grows over time. A steady offset may be corrected with a one-time sync adjustment; progressive drift usually calls for checking audio timing, device formats and the capture path. A fixed offset is not a reliable cure for a gap that keeps increasing.
Confirm whether the sync gap is fixed or growing
Compare the audio and video near the start of the saved VOD with the same relationship later on. Use a recognizable event, such as a shot, menu click or spoken cue, and note how far the audio leads or trails the matching action at each point.
- Fixed offset: The audio is early or late by roughly the same amount at the beginning and later in the VOD. Measure that offset; a single sync adjustment may address this pattern.
- Progressive drift: The gap becomes larger as the VOD plays. Investigate timing and the capture chain rather than applying a fixed offset and assuming the problem is solved.
Keep a short record of the setup before changing anything: OBS version, audio sources, capture route, connected devices, channel layout, sample rates and when the problem begins. That gives you a baseline for controlled comparisons.
Check OBS and device audio formats
Compare the sample rate and channel layout selected in OBS with the settings of the devices and software supplying audio. Look for inconsistencies across the capture chain, including a microphone, interface, virtual audio device, application-audio source or other connected device. Change one setting at a time, then check whether the timing changes in a new saved VOD.

YouTube’s Live API documentation identifies audio sample-rate and channel-configuration mismatch conditions. It names 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended sample rates, but that does not establish one universal OBS setting for every device, protocol or channel layout. Use a format supported consistently by the devices in your setup and review YouTube’s diagnostic messages for the actual stream.
There is also protocol-specific guidance: YouTube’s HLS documentation recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround. Apply that guidance when the stream uses HLS and the corresponding channel format; do not treat it as a blanket setting for every YouTube ingest method.

Review YouTube stream health and OBS dropped frames
Check YouTube Live’s stream-health information for audio configuration warnings or other reported conditions. A warning is useful evidence about the stream configuration, but it does not by itself prove the cause of a growing audio/video gap.
Also inspect OBS’s dropped-frame indicator. OBS Project’s Help Portal explains that when the dropped-frames counter rises and the connection indicator is yellow or red, the connection to the server is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. That points to a stream-delivery or network problem; it is not, on its own, a diagnosis of audio clock drift.

- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

Isolate application-audio capture
If the issue occurs with application-audio capture, compare that route with another available audio capture path. Keep the rest of the setup unchanged so you can tell whether the capture route is associated with the symptom. Check for both crackling and synchronization changes; a path that sounds clean at the start may still drift later.
A public OBS issue report describes one user’s application audio crackling and becoming delayed during a long session, while the reporter said desktop audio did not show the same symptom. The report involved OBS 29.0.0 and is an individual account, not proof of a general or current OBS defect. Treat an alternate capture route as a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix.

Retest the saved VOD after each change
- Make one controlled change, such as aligning a sample rate or switching the capture route.
- Run a test long enough to see whether the symptom develops, and note when it starts. One OBS issue reporter used a 20–30-minute recording or stream to reproduce a problem; that is the reporter’s test interval, not an official minimum test duration.
- Review the saved VOD at the opening and at one or more later points. Compare the same kinds of audio/video events each time.
- Keep the change only if it improves synchronization across the VOD, not merely in its opening seconds. If the drift remains, restore the prior setting and continue with another controlled comparison.
The official OBS and YouTube references relevant here support diagnostic checks, but they do not provide a universal OBS procedure that guarantees a fix for progressive drift. The cause can depend on the operating system, OBS version, devices, capture route and ingest protocol.

StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. It can take the computer and home connection out of the continuous-streaming setup, but it does not repair audio synchronization already present in a video. Check the source recording for sync before uploading.
