These checks can identify common routing or setup problems, but Logitech’s published materials do not confirm a specific recovery or rollback procedure for this exact post-update symptom.
1. Confirm you have the Gen 4 and the right software
Check that both the headset and base station are A50 Gen 4. Logitech lists Astro Command Center for A50 Gen 4 on Windows and Mac. Its current software page lists G HUB for A50 X and A50 Gen 5, not Gen 4, so do not switch to G HUB as a troubleshooting step for this model.
2. Check the base station’s mode and connection
The base station must be set for the platform it is connected to. Logitech’s A50 Gen 4 quick-start guide documents these setups:
- PC: Set the base station to PC mode and connect it to the computer with Micro-USB.
- Xbox One: Select Xbox mode and connect the base station by USB. The guide also documents optical audio setup for this console.
If you use another console or a different connection arrangement, check the instructions for that platform and setup rather than assuming the PC or Xbox One directions apply unchanged.

3. Verify the host’s audio output
Windows PC
In Windows sound settings, set ASTRO A50 Game as the default playback device and ASTRO A50 Voice as the default communications device. The Gen 4 presents separate Game and Voice endpoints; selecting the wrong one can route sound somewhere other than the channel you expect.
PlayStation 4
The quick-start guide documents selecting the ASTRO USB headset device and configuring the relevant output options on PS4. Menu labels can vary by platform and system version, so use the guide for your console rather than applying Windows endpoint names to it.

4. Check the headset’s physical controls
- Turn the headset on and raise its volume.
- Move the Game/Voice balance away from either extreme. A balance set fully to one side may make the other channel seem silent.
- As a controlled test, toggle the Dolby/source-audio mode and try another EQ preset. These controls affect audio behavior, but Logitech’s documentation does not say that a particular mode or preset fixes post-update silence.
5. Reseat the headset and check pairing
Place the headset on the base station with its microphone aligned to the station’s slot. Logitech’s guide says to reseat it if battery status does not appear; the battery display indicates that pairing is complete. If the status appears but audio remains missing, continue checking the host’s output and base-station configuration.
6. Know what the checks can tell you

When to contact Logitech support
If these checks do not restore sound, ask Logitech support for current, device-specific instructions. Logitech says, “The Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported or maintained by Logitech.” The official material cited here confirms Gen 4 software compatibility and setup guidance, but not a dedicated post-update no-sound recovery, rollback, or guaranteed manual reflash. Do not treat community hard-reset or reflash accounts as an official procedure.

A Micro-USB cable is relevant to the documented connection and could be replaced if the cable or connection is faulty. A new cable is not an established fix for corrupted firmware or missing audio.
