Work through the fixes in order: check Gameloft’s Known Issues page and your store for a hotfix, completely close Asphalt Legends, restart the device, clear the app cache where available, update both the operating system and game, and free memory. Reinstall only after confirming that your progress is linked to a supported account.
The symptom matters. A launch crash, an in-game freeze, a store download that will not finish, and an online-login failure can have different causes. The platform-specific steps below let you isolate the problem without risking a saved game.
Start with the lowest-risk recovery order
Use this sequence before deleting data or reinstalling. It moves from actions that cannot affect local saves to actions that may remove them.

1. Rule out a known outage or bad build
Open Gameloft’s Known Issues page before changing settings. The company has documented active investigations involving connections, purchases, ad rewards, and platform updates. If your symptom matches one of those reports, resetting the device will not repair the server or the game build; you may need to wait for a hotfix.

Also open the store page for Asphalt Legends and look for a newer version. A post-update crash is sometimes a regression that the developer has already corrected. For example, Gameloft’s July 29, 2024 hotfix notes say it fixed Android issues that caused the game to “randomly crash and / or freeze.” Those notes also identify a PlayStation crash that occurred after claiming Multiplayer Season rewards. If your failure began immediately after an update and matches one of those situations, install the corrective build rather than repeatedly clearing data.
2. Completely close the game and reboot
- Exit Asphalt Legends.
- Open the device’s app switcher or task manager and dismiss the game so it is no longer running in the background.
- Restart the device, wait for the home screen to load fully, and launch the game again.
This is Gameloft’s general first-line malfunction check. It clears a stuck process and gives the operating system a clean session without touching your account or save files. If the game opens after the reboot but later freezes, note the exact screen and activity where it happens; that detail is useful for the next branch and for support.
3. Clear temporary files without deleting local data
Android
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps (the label may be Applications), select Asphalt Legends, and tap Force stop.
- Open Storage or Storage & cache, then choose Clear cache.
- Restart the phone or tablet and try the game again.
Gameloft’s crash procedure specifically uses force-stop, cache cleanup, and a reboot. Do not substitute Clear storage, Clear data, or an equivalent control: those options can remove local state and may require you to sign in again. If Android offers only a combined storage control, stop and verify what it deletes before proceeding.
iPhone and iPad
iOS and iPadOS do not provide the same universal per-app cache button. Use a full close and reboot, install the latest system and game updates, and free space. Treat deletion and reinstall as the data-risk step described later, not as a cache-clearing shortcut.
Windows, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch
These platforms generally expose their own repair, update, or reinstall controls rather than an Android-style cache command. Use the platform’s normal game-management screen and keep your account credentials available. Do not remove saved data when the menu offers separate choices for the game installation and saved data.
4. Update the operating system and the game
Check for updates in both places: the device’s system-update screen and the official store or platform library. Gameloft’s general checklist calls for current device software and the current game version. A mismatch can produce a crash before the title screen, a freeze while loading assets, or an update loop.

After installing an update, reboot once before testing. If the newest build is the one that introduced the failure, compare its release notes with Gameloft’s Known Issues page rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same build. The July 29, 2024 hotfix demonstrates that some post-update failures are genuine game defects, not a problem with a particular handset or console.
5. Free memory and remove mobile power restrictions
Gameloft says a device needs at least 1 GB of free memory for proper gaming (Gameloft support article, undated). “Free memory” is separate from total storage: close other running apps, stop downloads or video editors, and retry. On mobile, turn off the battery or energy-saving mode while launching and updating; Gameloft lists that mode as a possible source of malfunction.
- Close browsers, video apps, screen recorders, and other games before starting Asphalt Legends.
- Leave enough free storage for the store to download and unpack an update; if the store reports low space, remove or move other files first.
- Retry on a stable Wi-Fi connection after the device has cooled and completed any pending system maintenance.
These actions do not prove that the game is at fault, but they remove resource pressure that can look like a crash or a frozen download.
6. Fix download and installation errors by failure stage
The store will not start or the download is stuck
- Restart the device and confirm that the connection works in another app.
- Open the official store directly, search for Asphalt Legends, and retry from its game page rather than an old notification.
- Check available storage and allow the store to finish any queued system or game updates.
- Record the exact error text or code before repeating the attempt.
A download that fails before installation points first to the store, network, storage, or platform service. A download that completes but crashes on launch points more strongly to the installed build, temporary files, or a known regression.
Nintendo Switch
Nintendo’s guidance for a downloaded game that freezes or takes too long to load includes updating the console, checking the displayed error code, and removing the microSD card so the download goes directly to system memory. Power the Switch down, remove the card according to Nintendo’s procedure, then retry the download. Reinsert the card only after the test, and keep the error code if the problem remains.

Install pending system and game updates. If the game shows a padlock or behaves as though you do not own it, check licenses using the console’s account-management controls. Capture the full error code and a screenshot or video. A crash specifically after claiming a Multiplayer Season reward matches the PlayStation issue listed in Gameloft’s July 29, 2024 hotfix notes; install the current build before attempting the reward again.

Windows, Steam, and Xbox
Check the relevant store or launcher for the current build, restart the computer or console, and use its normal repair or reinstall control if the installation is incomplete. Gameloft documented platform maintenance and staged account migration for Windows, Xbox, and Steam during May 2024, so an account or service symptom can be platform-side rather than a damaged local file. If the launcher displays an error code, save it with the time and your platform details.
7. Decide whether the symptom is local or online

If offline play works but login or online rewards fail, do not erase local data while investigating. Check Known Issues and the store version first; a server or account-service problem will survive a reinstall.
8. Reinstall only after protecting your progress
Gameloft recommends reinstalling after the earlier checks fail and says a linked social profile preserves progress. Before uninstalling, open the game if possible and verify that the profile is linked to the account you normally use. Make sure you know the sign-in method and can access its credentials on the same platform.

- Launch Asphalt Legends and open its account or profile area.
- Confirm that the expected social or platform account is shown as linked, not a temporary or guest profile.
- Note your player name, ID, and platform; take a screenshot if the game displays them.
- Uninstall only the game installation, not saved-data storage, when the platform separates those choices.
- Restart the device, reinstall from the official store, and sign in with the same linked account.
- Allow the initial content download to finish before switching apps or enabling energy-saving mode.
Account migration and cross-platform availability can be staged by platform. Gameloft documented such staged migration during the 2024 maintenance rollout, so a linked profile does not guarantee that every platform can share progress at every moment. If the profile was never linked, stop before uninstalling and contact support; local guest progress may not be recoverable.

Android
- Force-stop, clear cache, reboot, and update Android and the game.
- Keep at least 1 GB of free memory, close other apps, and disable energy-saving mode.
- Use the July 29, 2024 Android crash/freeze hotfix or any newer build if the store offers it.
iPhone and iPad
- Update iOS or iPadOS and Asphalt Legends.

10. Contact support with diagnostics that can be acted on
Escalate when the game still crashes after a clean restart, current updates, cache cleanup where available, and a verified reinstall. Include:
- Platform and exact device or console model
- Operating-system version
- Asphalt Legends version shown by the store or game
- Exact error text or numeric code
- The step at which it fails: launch, loading, race, reward claim, download, or login
- Whether the failure occurs offline, online, or both
- When it began and whether it started immediately after a particular update

Prevent the next update from becoming a data-loss problem
- Keep the operating system and store client current before a major game update.
- Maintain free storage and close memory-heavy apps before downloading.
- Disable mobile energy-saving mode during large downloads or first launch.
- Keep the player profile linked and record the player ID before troubleshooting.

Choose the next step by risk and failure stage
The safest choice depends on both where the failure occurs and what the next action can erase. A restart or cache clear is appropriate when the game was working and suddenly hangs. A store or platform check is more useful when the download never begins, stops at a fixed percentage, or reports an ownership or license problem. Reinstalling is a last local-file test, not a remedy for a server outage or an account migration problem.

- Confusing cache with storage: Android’s Clear cache control is not the same as Clear data or Clear storage. Choose the wrong one and local state may disappear.
- Repeating the same broken build: If the store offers no newer version and the symptom matches a hotfix or Known Issues entry, repeated reinstalls only reproduce the defect.
- Deleting a guest profile: A linked social or platform account is the protection Gameloft identifies for progress. Confirm the account before uninstalling.
