Start with the cause that is easiest to prove: compare your PC with Embark’s published hardware tiers, then apply the launch, clean-boot, and Easy Anti-Cheat checks in that order. ARC Raiders requires 64-bit Windows 10 or later, DirectX 12, and a broadband internet connection on Steam. A system below the minimum tier can reasonably be expected to stutter or deliver low frame rates; a system that meets the recommended or Epic tier should be diagnosed for software conflicts before you buy hardware.
What the symptom usually tells you
ARC Raiders problems fall into different paths. A crash to desktop points toward permissions, background software, damaged files, or anti-cheat interference. A black screen or endless loading screen is primarily a launch and security-isolation problem. Stuttering and low frame rates require a performance baseline: resolution, quality preset, frame rate, hardware tier, and whether another application changes the result.
- Stutter or hitching: record whether it happens continuously, only when entering a new area, after a particular action, or only while overlays and background applications are active.
- Low average FPS: compare your CPU, GPU, and RAM with the target tier for the resolution and preset you want. Lowering settings cannot make a below-minimum processor or graphics card meet a published target.
- Crash during launch: apply Windows updates, restart, run the game with administrator rights, and test with background applications isolated.
- Black screen or infinite loading: treat it as a launch failure first; check permissions, anti-cheat exceptions, and clean-boot behavior before changing graphics options.
Check your PC against ARC Raiders’ published requirements
Embark Studios describes these as experience targets, not a guarantee for every patch or configuration. The minimum tier is intended for 1080p at 60 frames per second on Low; the recommended tier targets 1440p at 60 fps on High; the Epic tier targets 1440p at 90 fps on Epic. The game released on Steam on October 30, 2025.

Use the tier as a decision point rather than a promise. If any major component is below minimum, stutter and low FPS are expected risks. If your machine matches Recommended or Epic and still hitches, document the exact conditions and work through the software-isolation steps before considering an upgrade.

Build a useful baseline before changing settings
A short record prevents random troubleshooting and gives support enough information to reproduce the problem. Write down the following while the issue is occurring:
- The exact symptom and any error text, including whether the game exits, freezes, or returns to the desktop.
- When it began: first launch, after a game update, after a Windows change, or after installing another program.
- Your platform (Steam), Windows version and update state, GPU model and driver version, installed RAM, display resolution, and selected quality preset.
- Whether the problem occurs only in ARC Raiders or also in other games.
- A reproducible sequence, such as “black screen immediately after pressing Play” or “hitch every time a firefight starts.”
Change one category at a time and retest the same sequence. Otherwise, you cannot tell which action helped or which change created a new problem.
Apply the low-risk launch fixes first
Install pending Windows updates and reboot
Embark lists outdated operating-system files as a possible reason for loading failures. Open Windows Update, install every pending update that applies to your edition, restart the PC, and launch ARC Raiders again. A restart matters even when Windows does not request one because it clears a process that may still hold a file or service open.
Run the game as administrator
Limited permissions can prevent the launcher, game files, or anti-cheat service from completing startup. Close the game and Steam, then right-click the ARC Raiders executable or its shortcut and choose Run as administrator. If that changes the result, the observation is useful: it points to a permissions or security-policy conflict rather than a graphics-quality setting.

Close overlays and background applications for the test
Embark specifically warns that background applications and overlays can interfere with loading. Exit recording tools, chat overlays, hardware monitors, RGB utilities, and other software that injects itself into a game process, then test again. Do not assume a visible window is the only offender; a clean boot is the reliable way to isolate services and startup items.
Use a clean boot to find background conflicts
A clean boot is a diagnostic isolation step, not a permanent gaming configuration. It starts Windows with Microsoft services and the startup items you leave enabled, allowing you to test whether another program is responsible.
- Press Win+R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then disable the remaining services. Hiding Microsoft services first reduces the risk of disabling a core Windows component.
- Open Task Manager from the Startup tab (or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc), disable the remaining startup items, and close Task Manager.
- In System Configuration, apply the changes and restart Windows.
- Launch ARC Raiders and reproduce the original problem using the same resolution, preset, and sequence recorded in your baseline.
If the issue disappears, re-enable services and startup items in small groups, restarting and testing after each group. When the problem returns, narrow that group one item at a time. After identifying the conflict, return to msconfig and Task Manager and restore normal startup, leaving only the specific conflicting program disabled or configured according to its publisher’s guidance.

Check Windows security software and Easy Anti-Cheat
Easy Anti-Cheat is required to play. Windows Defender or another antivirus and firewall can block its executable or the game, producing a launch failure, black screen, or loading loop. Add both EasyAntiCheat.exe and ARC Raiders to the allowed list in the security product you use, then restart and test.
- Make the exception in the security product that is actually active; adding an exception to an inactive product does nothing.
- Use the product’s exact executable- or application-allow-list feature rather than disabling protection permanently.
- After adding the exception, close and reopen the game so the anti-cheat service starts under the new rule.
- If the game works only when protection is disabled, re-enable protection immediately after the test and investigate the specific blocked file or event in the product’s logs.
Do not treat a security exception as proof that the game files are damaged. It establishes that a security policy was interfering; keep the exception narrowly scoped and remove it if it does not change the result.
Reinstall ARC Raiders only after the earlier checks
Reinstalling is appropriate when launch files remain damaged or the documented isolation steps fail, but it should not be the first response to ordinary stutter. Follow Embark’s folder-cleanup sequence exactly:

- Uninstall ARC Raiders from Steam.
- Delete
C:Program FilesEmbark Studios. - Delete the local
%localappdata%Embark StudiosARC Raidersfolder only after confirming that doing so will not remove data belonging to another Embark game installed on the PC. - Empty the Recycle Bin.
- Restart Windows.
- Redownload the game from Steam.
- Run the installer as administrator, then launch the newly installed copy.
The AppData step is the one that requires the most care. If another Embark title is present, stop and verify which files the folder contains before deleting anything; do not trade one game’s launch problem for another game’s lost local data.

Fix stuttering without guessing at unofficial tweaks
First decide whether the PC is under-target
Compare your processor, graphics card, and RAM with the table above at the resolution and preset you use. Minimum hardware is associated with Low at 1080p/60, not High at 1440p. Recommended hardware is associated with High at 1440p/60, while Epic’s 1440p/90 target requires a substantially faster processor and GPU. If your system is below the relevant tier, lower expectations before diagnosing a fault: a setting change cannot turn below-minimum hardware into a published target.
Separate a frame-rate problem from a hitching problem
Record whether the game is slow all the time or only pauses briefly. A consistently low frame rate suggests the selected resolution, preset, or hardware tier is too demanding. Short recurring hitches call for the baseline, overlay, clean-boot, and security checks. Test with the same scene and sequence after each change so that an improvement is measurable rather than impressionistic.
Do not present unverified driver or launch-flag advice as a fix
There is no verified ARC Raiders-specific driver version, shader-cache policy, or universally safe launch option established here. Keep your graphics driver and Windows installation current, but do not treat a community command-line flag or a forced shader-cache setting as an official remedy. If you report a remaining hitch to support, include the exact reproduction conditions instead of relying on an unexplained tweak.
Targeted paths for black screens and infinite loading
- Confirm that Windows is fully updated and restart.
- Run ARC Raiders as administrator once and test.
- Close overlays and background applications; if the problem persists, perform the clean boot procedure.
- Add
EasyAntiCheat.exeand ARC Raiders to the active antivirus and firewall allow lists. - If the game still cannot pass the loading screen, perform the careful uninstall, folder cleanup, restart, and administrator reinstall described above.
This sequence follows the lowest-risk explanations first. A black screen that disappears after a clean boot identifies an application conflict; one that disappears only after an anti-cheat exception identifies a security rule; one that survives both checks justifies the documented reinstall and a support report with your baseline details.

Targeted paths for crashes
Crash before the main menu
Use the update, reboot, administrator-launch, background-isolation, and anti-cheat checks in that order. Record the exact error text if one appears. A crash that occurs only when a particular overlay or startup service is enabled is a reproducible conflict, not evidence that the GPU is too slow.
Crash after changing settings
Return to the last known working configuration and test with the same scene. If the crash remains, treat it as a launch or file-integrity problem rather than repeatedly changing quality options. The documented reinstall should follow only after the isolation steps and security exceptions have been checked.
Crash that happens in every configuration
Confirm that the system meets at least the minimum processor, memory, and GPU tier and that Windows is 64-bit and current. Then provide support with the platform, Windows version, hardware, exact error, start date, and reproduction steps. This information distinguishes a machine that cannot meet the target from a repeatable software failure on supported hardware.

Do not buy a generic “ARC Raiders PC.” The correct upgrade depends on the component below the tier you are targeting, your motherboard and power supply, case clearance, display resolution, and desired frame rate. Use this decision framework:
- Below minimum: address the component that misses the minimum tier before expecting stable 1080p/Low performance.
- Meets minimum but not recommended: 1080p/Low is the published baseline; 1440p/High at 60 fps is not the stated target for that configuration.
- Meets recommended: investigate clean boot, overlays, anti-cheat exceptions, and reproducible software conflicts before upgrading, especially when the symptom is intermittent stutter rather than consistently low FPS.
- Meets Epic: the published target is 1440p/90 on Epic, but it remains a target rather than a guarantee for every patch or scene. Document a repeatable failure before replacing parts.
When comparing an upgrade, match the whole platform: a faster GPU may be limited by an older processor, insufficient memory, inadequate power delivery, or a case that cannot provide the required cooling and clearance. The requirements table tells you the game’s published tiers; it does not identify a universal best-value component.
What to include in a support request
If the official workflow does not resolve the issue, send a concise reproduction report to the game’s support channel. Include:
- Steam as the platform and the date the problem began.
- Windows edition and version, whether it is fully updated, and whether the PC was restarted after updating.
- CPU, GPU, driver version, installed RAM, display resolution, and in-game preset.
- The exact error text, crash timing, or loading-screen behavior.
- Whether administrator launch, overlay closure, clean boot, security exceptions, and reinstall changed the result.
- A step-by-step reproduction that another person can follow.
State the result of each diagnostic test once. “The issue remains after a clean boot and an Easy Anti-Cheat exception” is more actionable than a list of unrelated tweaks, because it tells support which classes of cause have already been excluded.

- Does the PC meet the correct Embark tier for your resolution, preset, and frame-rate target?
- Are Windows and the 64-bit installation fully updated, and has the PC been restarted?
- Did running ARC Raiders as administrator change launch behavior?

- Are
