A “No Signal” message does not necessarily mean your HDMI port is broken. Check that the source device is on and the display is set to the HDMI input you’re using, then reseat the cable, bypass adapters or switches, and test with a known-good cable and another input or device. These comparisons can help identify whether the problem is the cable, source, display input, or a damaged socket.
1. Check the power and HDMI input
- Make sure both the display and the device sending the picture are powered on and awake.
- On the TV or monitor, select the input matching the socket in use—for example, HDMI 1 if the cable is plugged into HDMI 1.
- If the source device has more than one HDMI output, check that the cable is connected to the output it actively uses.
HP, Sony, and Samsung all recommend checking the selected input or whether the source is sending a signal before assuming the port has failed. HP Support, Sony Support, and Samsung Support provide model-specific guidance.
2. Reseat and inspect the HDMI cable
- If convenient, turn off the devices before disconnecting the cable.
- Unplug the HDMI cable at both ends, then reconnect it firmly.
- Inspect the cable and plugs for visible damage. Do not force a plug that does not fit.
- Try a cable you know works. If you need to buy one, match its capabilities to the features supported by your source and display; a new cable will not fix a damaged socket.

3. Simplify the connection
Temporarily remove anything between the source and display: an HDMI switch, splitter, receiver, adapter, or extension cable. Connect the source directly to the display, then try another HDMI input if one is available. This helps rule out an intermediate device or a single input as the cause.

If there is still no picture, TCL recommends disconnecting power for 30–60 seconds, then reconnecting the source before the display. Follow any model-specific instructions for your equipment.
4. Find out which component the fault follows
Change one part of the setup at a time so the result is easier to interpret. The comparisons below are diagnostic clues, not guaranteed diagnoses.

- Try another input: Keep the same source and cable, but connect them to a different HDMI input on the display. If the second input works, the original input or its signal path may be at fault.
- Try another display: Connect the same source and cable to a different display, if available. If the problem follows the source, investigate its output or settings.
- Try another source: Connect a device known to work to the suspect input. If multiple known-good sources fail only on that input, the display’s input path is a stronger suspect.
- For a desktop PC, check the output socket: Some desktops have HDMI sockets on both the motherboard and a separate graphics card. Confirm that the cable is connected to the active graphics output; HP specifically calls out this distinction.
HP and TCL recommend testing different components or determining whether the issue affects one device or several. The interpretation above follows from those substitution tests; it is not a confirmed diagnosis without device inspection.
5. Decide when to seek repair
Stop troubleshooting and seek device-specific service advice if the socket looks bent, detached, or loose, or if the problem remains on one physical input after you have tested known-good cables and sources. Avoid repeatedly wiggling a loose connector, which could worsen damage.

Repair options depend on the device. HP notes that repair or replacement may be necessary when a monitor remains blank after troubleshooting; Sony provides product repair escalation, and Samsung advises service if the issue persists. A port replacement can require model-specific disassembly and electronics repair skills, so generic soldering instructions are not a safe substitute for qualified service.

Borrow a known-good cable when practical before buying one. The correct cable capability depends on the equipment, and testing a cable cannot repair a damaged HDMI socket.
